Wow!! The gear really has come a long way. Back then (only 4 yrs ago) that wing was probably top of the line. It's floppy, flappy, and loose!! It took a lot of wind to generate the power needed for what he was doing. Look at the gear now. Ocean Rodeo's all Allula (AA) line just came out and it's stiff as a board and 4 times as light. You can Wing now in wind that you could only kite foil before. Amazing progress!!
This guy is just Awesome! Watching his video’s on here, there is nothing that involves the ocean and a board that he can’t do and make it look beautiful..and effortless. He looks like he belongs to the waves, it is wonderful to watch, thank you for posting such incredible natural talent.
Back in the 80's a friend of mine experimented with something like this, which at the time he was calling a 'wind weapon'. Although I'm sure this newer form is more advanced, from what I recall my friend's had a similar kind of 'wing' design but it was attached to the board via a kind of mast with swivel joints at either end to allow for articulation of the wing. He was particularly excited about it's potential to effectively 'glide' through the air if one turned the wing horizontally during a jump, a bit like a glider's profile. Looked wild then and looks wild now... super cool !!!
That's awesome you know one of those guys! I remember as a kid watching videos of the wind weapon on TV. That thing was amazing - way ahead of its time. The sail would pivot and convert the windsurfboard into a hang glider mid jump. I looked into it about 10 years later (circa 2000) and the epilogue I read was that even though it worked great, it never took off as a product because the only guy's talented enough to ride it were the inventors.
Fantastico!!!!!!!che peccato non aver qualche anno di meno!!!!!ma voi potete imparare e dvertirvi tantissimo,mi piiacerebbe vedervi all' opera! Grazie Marco
I started water sports with wingsurfing and, even though it was a lot of fun, after trying kitesurfing once I switched over to that as it's much easier when you learn it properly in my opinion. Also cheaper as there is a large 2nd hand market for equipment.
It looks really limited compared to kitesurf ( at least in this progressive phase ), then I don't like foil ( but this is my opinion ) ....and it would be interesting to know how much strength and resistance you need in your arms to do 2 hours wing surfing...
I do windsurfing and it's a fun sport, it's not unforgiving and dangerous like kitesurfing. There are plenty of 50 year old surfing veterans that wind surf everyday here where I live (Kauai north shore)
No, as kite makes reference to the propulsion method, and surfing to what you really do with the board. This is not a kite, is a wing, so wing surfing makes sense.
For the confused and the haters: New versions for surf are inflatable. Robbie Naish and Slingwing have versions that are really well thought out. The idea is "Less is More." Kitesurfing is a rat's nest of lines and equipment. Yeah, good kitesurfers are gonna rip more with their actual KS rig. But throw this in the water with a SUP, especially without the foil, and you have the easiest possible combo to cruise around and have fun on. People who have zero chance of mastering a windsurf or kiteboarding rig could cruise around and have fun. If you're against that? Nothing I can say will change your mindset, I guess. I know what Kai would say.
Come on guys, this is such an old thing which didn't get any popularity since 2004 ! It's a Wind Wing I've tried it I think in 2006 a total disaster compairing with kiteboarding not even kite foiling. Hope Ozone and red Bull will not say that this is a cutting edge new super sport :)
Kind a toghtt to my self, perfect - soft wing will not hit you so bad as the first hard ones did. But then wait! The bord and its foils still hit you! XD
Look at the thickness, that's probably about 65-80L which is what Kai considers a SUP. Wings seem like a good Jericho summer option for you Adam, you gonna get one?
@@slappysurf if Jericho blew regularly like it has been lately I'd consider it. I wonder if it could make it work with my windfoil board, it's 122L but the foil is mounted pretty far back. Too many sports too little time (and wind).
Aye I bet if you found a shallow lake that didnt t create big chops and had wake boats create a beast of a bump I bet you could set the record in hight or at least invent a new sport. I got tons of ideas that involve shredding.
guess Red Bull does give you wings
Thank you

This is going to be the next big thing, I just just feel it. Give this sport 5 - 10 years and it'll be as popular as kiting and windsurfing
This comment aged well
@@dillonnewton9580 Was just about to write the very same!😃
@@dillonnewton9580 it took less than 5 years, so it over performed the prediction
On a planet with overcrowded kite surfing spots, back to a solution that doesn't need 25m of rope seems like a very very good idea!
Not an alternative at all
This is at least a 30 years old idea.
Like Windsurfing?
Windsurf is older than that, and is a quite good idea which works pretty well.
oh well, there's also this other new thing called windsurfing
Only Kai could make this look easy.
Just what I was thinking.
He's still struggling. Imagine someone who isn't as skilled as him trying this lol
@@SevnZeroFive I wouldn't call that struggling......
It doesn't look easy to me tho
Ver y easy

No ropes to get tangled with other riders. I’m on board! Love it!
Incredible skill. Why doesn't the video show him water starting in bumpy surf.
Koz its most prolly EXTREMELY difficult. But it looks great
That under - fin should be clear, to give the appearance of hovering just above the water with that kite!
Its carbon to make it light and realy strong, sadly cant make that clear
Maybe if you can coat it in some reflective paint?? That’ll probably be the closest to what ur thinking off
@@GamzGFX That would be cool.
and run into the fish
you can make it using plexiglass, it weighs a little more but is strong enough and transparant.

When in trouble. wich one I should hold, the borad or the wing????? That´s is the question.loll
Look who just created a new sport.
not Kai.
I'm pretty sure Naish created this new kite design, it's a very good evolution of the old school pole sail design

Always delivering the Maui stoke 🤙Can’t wait to see a wing backflip
I read a kids book about an inlet only flying boats could get to. Nice to see it does exist.
That's got to be a *serious* workout. Major strength training going on there.
you have to be really strong jesus chrsit!
Kai is one incredible man.
This guy is always exciting to watch.
did you win the wing foil from red bull? how can i get one?
Wing Surfing. No strings attached.
New addition to 2020 surfing Olympics

THis is like cycling with an umbrella. You can't see incoming traffic....
My arms could probably handle this for 5 seconds.
BUT!
does it loop?
Do you want flaying like a bird ...no no no 😂😂😂
How many kt of wind do you need?
The foil is opening up some interesting possibilities
Is there a motor on that surf
Kai is really getting that foiling down! Cudos.
I'm so glad I'm not 25 any more. I'd sell my last shirt to own of these. This looks super fun but I'm good, 41 and I'll stick to snowboarding...

I can't believe it, I've dreamed of buying a Wing for snowboarding for years, now you've done the surf version! Where do you buy it !?
When you find out post it up. It looks really fun.
What's it like upwind compared to a windsurfer?
How do you not lose your wings when you wipe out in the wind?

I wonder if Ozone sells this wing. Naish and Duotone do
This bad idea was tried decades ago in Hood River.

Slingshot have one out. Maybe a bit of bungee in the handles to soak up a bit of gust. nice skills btw
Umbrella foiling?

How much arm do you need though !!
I'm guessing two. Two arms
Invertus yeah I suppose so, didn’t think of that
That’s pretty sick
Is there a virtual reality version yet?
With no waist harness, the muscles in the hands, forearms and shoulders will be the first to fatigue and give out.
If you have to bail and you let go of the wing... I guess you're hosed
