Dave Greenfield, the composer of this song (the Stranglers at their most Doors-like) just passed away two days ago from Covid-19. He was a very talented keyboardist and the core of this unjustly underrated band.
He was truly a great musician and Golden Brown was one of favs. It had an almost baroque harpsichord-y vibe to it, which I really dug. Of a different note (no pun intended), we need to be careful about assigning causes of death to COVID-19. Millions, and perhaps billions, of people will contract COVID-19 and not even know it due to non-testing, which is the rule and not the exception. Apparently, Dave Greenfield contracted COVID-19 nosocomially, that is, while in the hospital being treated for preexisting heart problems. According to Wikipedia: "Greenfield died on 3 May 2020, aged 71. He had been diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection on 26 April 2020, a week before his death, during an extended hospital stay for heart-related problems"
Anyone watching this, i would highly recommend checking out some of the Stranglers other songs, they are a brilliant band, with their own unique sound, and i got to see them live :)
According to The Stranglers "Song By Song" Hugh Cornwell tells the author that: "Musically Golden Brown is in 13/8, so there are three bars of 3/4 waltz-time and then one bar of 4/4, but it only does that in the pieces where there's no singing. When the singing comes in it stays a straight 3/4." That's a direct quote from the book, by the way.
Richard Brooks - He's also my role model as a wonderful keyboard player. There are a very few players in his league like the keyboardists from The Doors, The Animals, Deep Purple IMO.
@brentlostak Actually both Mc Cartney & Lennon stated Lucy was not about LSD.Its about a picture that a young Julian Lennon drew at Playschool. It had a stick figure of Julians Friend Lucy in it.Totally agree about the addict thing!

Very sad!
I am sad
@Lucie Slavíková It was indeed zero covered by any media. Inappropriate!
Underrated, really? The band received their dues.
A beautifully paced song - complex, yet sweetly engaging. Rare indeed!
One of the greatest songs ever written.Dave Greenfield already at his best !

Never a frown with golden brown
0:19 I love Hugh's folded-arms delivery. His voice is at its peak of perfection, too.
still now.
One of the most lovliest songs from an innovative and distinctive band; it was a big hit in Israel back in 1982.
חחחחח מעניין בכמה אתה
Very sensitive and poetic song, timeless... 🎶💕
AMAZING - 43 years later, its still amazing
Cant get enough of this song...
I am still as moved and haunted by this beautiful song as I was when I first heard it over 39 years ago
The stranglers defied classification
Absolutely Outstanding And Timeless 👍 Pure Brilliance

Peter O'Toole thank you for the recommendation 🙏
@@innate-videos Yeah no sweat, they have many excellent songs, they're weren't punk exactly, more Dada rock.
Seen them live 4 times and have more albums than I can currently remember !
and if you like Golden Brown, start with their album/CD "Feline"... it's from later on but a great recording
Rockpalast was a show in Germany. We only drink golden beer over here to forget our brown times.
Rockpalast is fantastic - so much good stuff preserved = thanks WDR (West Deutsche Rundfunk) - Kept me sane after moving to W. Germany in 82

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING FROM THE STRANGLERS
What a beautiful song
The very first time I heard this song I fell in love. I love fast waltzes. Reminds me of Amelie and Beasts of the Southern Wild
soundtracks.
Yann Tiersen live is awesome if you get a chance.
don't mind, underestimated band , love them, specially the keyboard player. at last someone who knows how to handle a synthesizer live
thanks guys
Sleep easy Ryan. Our song, our chosen version too. Miss you mate. As you asked though brother, I still smile at the memories.
Cheers,
Love this live version. My friend used to ask me 'wonder what mancheirons are?'
We would have quite happily married any of The Stranglers.
tgwtrh I always thought that was one word too what the hell
Yes It sounds Like One Word but It Is "with my mind She runs..."....…😂lol......
Yes I thought that what it was until tonite!!!! Reason I looked it up as today in 1982 on the day it entered the UK singles chart
Alexandre palace, super concert pour un grand groupe ,merci
Thank goodness a video that shows all the band.
Бессмертная классика.
Всегда сильно вставляет финал песни.
Dave Brubeck's quartet instrumental Golden brown is beautiful.
Beeauutiful!!! So few times the waltz keyboard is shown on live performance videos. Cornwell is so cute too...
Rest In Peace Dave
Simply the best band
nonostante la bellezza degli altri brani degli Stranglers, Golden Brown a mio avviso resyera` sempre il Masterpiece della band.
This is why the keyboard was invented, awesome!!!
Whaat? I'm from Serbia and I love this song. Why would disliker be from Serbia? Lol.
Besides his singing, I love it, how Hugh C. plays the guitar!

Good work tracking this down!
Awesome
Either I’m tripping on Golden Brown or some of these comments are repeated or auto-generated using preset sentences.
No I’ve seen it in a lot of videos. One video had “Canada will always stand with Brazil!🇨🇦🇧🇷” by several genuine looking accounts.

There is only one Key Board player in Dave Greenfields league and that's Dave Greenfield!
Richard Brooks - He's also my role model as a wonderful keyboard player. There are a very few players in his league like the keyboardists from The Doors, The Animals, Deep Purple IMO.
