❗❗ NEW UPDATE 2024 6-15: The BlueMark modules (db120, db121, db121pcb and db122fpv) successfully went through external audits to confirm FAA compliance and passed with flying colors! Small changes were made and a new firmware version is available for this. I did check it with the new firmware (20240501-1330) and the configuration as shown in this video works exactly the same, no issues. Release announcement here: bluemark.io/2024/06/dronebeac...

Thanks for the excellent video on the Drone Beacon module. Received my module and reconfigured it per your video. The reconfig went just as described and the location is not visible using the OpenDroneID app. I'll feel a lot safer knowing my location isn't visible while complying with RID.
You're welcome, and that's awesome! You're the first to let me know the config worked as described, appreciate it. Glad it worked out!
You forgot to mention that the best way to attach the RID module is with at least seven layers of aluminum body-tape, making sure to smooth it down so there are no gaps around the module. 😛
Need to make it pretty! 🎀
Naw just dunk it in salt water first
That's great advice! Thanks
Wouldn't want potentially harmful radiation escaping!!!
28 volts will be sure and boist a clear signal
Just got my 107. I've been wanting to press my old Phantom 3 into professional service, knew I needed RemoteID, but was concerned about non-law enforcement having access to pilot location data. Your RemoteID module, and the configuration settings gives me all the confidence I need to move forward. Will be ordering the RID unit after I click comment.
Thanks,
Glad it was helpful!
We need more stuff like this! Ridiculous that drones are more regulated than most weapons at this point.
That’s not true.
@@Sparroh how so
Do you have to pass a test to get a gun? But you have to pass one to legally fly a drone for work?
@@patrickpendergast898 my point exactly
Neither should be regulated
DJI and the other manufacturers need to implement these options in their firmware!
Agreed!
Great info! My only problem with remote id was Karen and Ken having the ability to see my location. They have no legitimate reason to be given this information. For the self appointed members of the drone police, it's an open invitation you harass law abiding drone pilots. Thanks for informing the community about this product!!
Thanks, glad it is helpful!
How many Kerens & Kens will actually know that there is an app that you can find the drone anyway? Is very few I would think
@@cnc.moto_factory one is too many. But with social media it wont take long for people to know about it.
@@cnc.moto_factory I respectfully disagree.
@@cnc.moto_factory The karens that go to the trouble of finding the app are exactly the ones you don't want to have it.
Finally a workable solution. I was so concerned about thieves and bad people knowing my location that I was willing to go rogue and completely dark or drop the hobby altogether. My safety comes first.
It is a welcome solution for sure!
I plan to use this on my phantom 4 pro if they don’t fix it with firmware (maybe even turn it off I’d they do).
I’ll probably still go with my “if Karen can find me” plan as well though.
Police body cam, high vis vest with “FAA certified remote pilot, do not disturb”, and my usual openly carried full sized side arm. Maybe even pepper spray

Got my Drone Beacon module, (using your discount code), flashed the firmware, and did the configuration. All very simple and straightforward. Thanks for a very helpful video.
Great to hear, thanks for sharing! 🤙
Thanks and good to know. Hope the DJI drones that are now compatible with Remote ID add this "No Karen's" feature. I doubt it!!!
Hello Keith, thank you for this excellent update on these RID modules. I was looking into them when your video popped up on my notifications; perfect timing. I especially like the firmware changes to keep the pilot's location hidden from those without reason to know where we are. I jumped to the US Links to purchase the modules for my older but beneficial drones. Thank You!
Thanks! Glad it is helpful!
That is great. What would be greater is if the manufacturers would allow that alteration on onboard RID, or perhaps make that the default setting when shipped.
Love your videos, your content is always informative and concise.
Glad it is helpful, and thanks for taking the time to comment! Indeed, baby steps...
That might come after someone is assaulted and they take the FAA to court.
Thanks again, Keith. I received my module a couple of months ago, but finally got around to setting it up, reconfiguring it and updating my FAA registration. Followed your video step, by step....helped me alot! Much appreciated.
Happy to help!
Perfect,,a cheaper solution for a problem I've heard about...what if I told you I've heard people say they were going to flood the airwaves with signals from modules in cars while on the freeway...leaving them on permanently in spots....while camping in the forest or fishing the local lakes and rivers.....everywhere they are not flying drones.....🥴
I'd say let them do it, this wont get policed anyway, it's merely going to be used retrospectively to pin a crime on a pilot that happened to be in that location
100%, ive been thinking of a few designs, just too lazy to write the firmware
Awesome 💯👍. Thank you so very much. This will keep the Karen and others from finding our location, but still being compliance with FAA and etc.
Have a great week and God bless you and your family always 🙏
🙏🙏
This is THE BEST remote ID video I’ve seen so far. Now there’s hope for my Phantom 4!
AWESOME, Keith!! Thanks so much for working with these guys and keeping us legal, but safe….and at a reduced price!!
🤙
Thank you for that information, That is the way it should be, I usually fly my drone in a relatively quite area, I don't mind law enforcement knowing where I am or what Ii am doing I have nothing to hide, but I feel unsafe knowing anyone can find me weather the have good or bad intentions Thhank you Bluemark.
Thanks for sharing! I completely agree and BlueMark was great in working with us to get this set up. I hope the rest of the industry takes note and trends in this direction!
This. Cops sure, Karens and theives/fools with guns no.
@@andrewdrone since clearly the FAA doesn’t care about that, based on what the FAA rep has said during interviews you know what you need to do or rather in this case NOT DO…
I will take it a step further as I HATE that bs argument people use, "well if you have nothing to hide then you should be ok with cops knowing where you are or what you are doing"
This is total bunk. Its just a nonsense argument used to infringe on people and overstep authority they shouldnt or dont have.
Thank you for the info. I am novice DJI Phatom 4 Pro V 2.0 flyer and exploring my options with R.I.D. Will look into this for sure.
Hi, thank you! I will probably check this out. I'm always concerned flying alone. This will help a lot.
You're welcome, glad it is useful!
Not cheap but better than most. Love the hack. Great info
Thanks! Indeed, going the right direction... 🤙
Love being able to see everyone's location!
Everyone will do this!!!!!!!

We don't want people spying on us.
Thanks for the kind words and taking the time to share!
@thegunsngloryshow Understandable, and if that information were available to law enforcement or FAA to confirm what/who is doing what would be fine. As a side note, rest assured, the wide angle lenses can not see much detail at all at any height, much, MUCH less than people think. That being said, allowing the general public to find the real time location of the the pilot, and enabling a confrontation, many times heated, and sometimes even with weapons, is unacceptable. This is a recipe for disaster, and someone will get hurt or killed for doing something innocent and legal.
@thegunsngloryshow Indeed, remote ID as it is now is problematic honestly unsafe, hence my attempt to level the field, at least a little, by working with Bluemark. To your question, "... I own 38 acres...", the answer is that the _property_ ownership is irrelevant to the FAA, as FAA has jurisdiction of ALL _airspace_ both controlled and uncontrolled. So if it's in the airspace it's controlled by the FAA, and if it is in FAA jurisdiction all the rules apply for operating in that airspace. This is what allows any airplane, helicopter and hot air balloon to operate over your property with impunity. If your flight is indoors, then the FAA has no say. I know some will say "how will the FAA know" if I'm over my own property, and this is a fair point, but if a medical helicopter has to divert or if the drone flies away into the path of an airplane for instance, that's when any violations will all pile on, IMHO.
Thank you for your anti-Karen tips. I am now waiting for my Remote ID model 121.
Glad it is helpful! 🤙
Thanks for sharing this information on RID modules.
Just coming up to speed on everything, glad I found you!

I really appreciate that this beacon is now safe to use for our safety from fly haters who take us the wrong way and want to fight or shoot down my drone. It’s good that only faa or law enforcement can see. Thanks
This won't stop someone from shooting down your R/C aircraft.
Outstanding Keith. Thanks for the excellent video!
Thanks for the kind words! 🤙🤙
This video is epic for me. I have an older EXO Cinemaster 2 that works great and I just couldn't justify some of the Remote ID module prices to continue using it for anything beyond recreational use.
Now that there is an option to remain compliant, but thwart the casual snooper, this option is amazing. This should be a feature of any remote ID module. With time running out, I think this is the way I will go. In the future, my drone upgrades will have it on-board, but I'm in that awkward transitional phase with an older drone that I want to keep flying Part 107.
Glad it is useful!
Nice work! I shared everywhere I could on social media.
Awesome, thanks! 🤙
Remote ID and having the government in my pants… Me no like!
The fact that you can keep the average Joe or Karen in this case LOL from seeing your position big thumbs up.
Thanks for all your information for not only keeping us out of legal trouble, but keeping us safe.
Thanks! I'll take the incremental wins when I can get them for sure! 🤙
F the po-po.
The FCC has thr gall to call it license plate for drones. Another RUclipsr said it's more correctly an ankle monitor for drone operators.
This is such a great idea! I hope more RID Module manufacturers get on board with this....I'm trying to get the word out on this so gave you a shout-out on my channel as well for making us aware. A step in the right direction...thx!
Thank you! Absolutely agree, trying to DO SOMETHING, and BlueMark was kind enough to listen to my perspective and work to implement a version that at least moves the needle in the right direction. Hopefully we set a precedent that catches on everywhere in the industry! You Heard It Here First! lol 🤙
This is Awesome, I have ordered 2 to cover my fleet.
Nice! It's nice that Bluemark is engaged and innovating for sure! 🤙
This is going to be one of the most popular drone videos ever.
From your comments to RUclips's ears... lol 😂
If RID is going to report where the pilot is then it should also report where karen is.
RID for Karen’s! love it. 😊
I'm all for that... Oh the outrage there would be!
This is great news! Something I'll definitely look into after seeing how this plays out with people getting accosted for Karens calling drones in as "not complying" because they can't see the drone on the app and LEOs then accosting a pilot if thsy don't believe they are complying. I've had similar experiences in the automotive field skirting laws, completely on the legal side, but having overzealous police automatically assume and ticket me as if I were in the wrong. Wasting my time, their time, and tax payer money.
Thanks! They can always come to the channel, happy to educate if they need to know how the rules and the technology to make it work! Thinking most LEOs have better things to do... 😎
You're a great American, I subscribed immediately. Loving the channel!
🙏🤙
Thank you for this information. I thought I was going to have to retire my drones.
You're welcome, glad it is useful!
Well done review of the module. Overview of RID , and demonstration of the "hack". Good information.
Karen/Ken's don't need to know where I am. Law enforcement, sure.
My issue with this module, way too expensive. On the plus side, I can easily transfer it between my builds. Yes, I build my fpv quads. And I beat the snot out of them. Is that thing durable? And it's too big for my 3.5" builds.
Thank you for sharing, hopefully as we get closer to September we'll have more options.
Happy flying everyone. 🤓
As far as modules, I think this is good that at least one is looking to address one of the biggest problems with Remote ID. Cost is still a bit much, but for a hobbyist, buying only one that could be moved helps. It does look a bit big though, and durability is definitely going to be a problem with these things. For those wanting to comply, this looks to be a better option than the others I have seen thus far. Maybe the FAA should give vouchers for the cost difference from what they promised to what we actually have? LOL yeah, that'll never happen
@@StacemanFPV they could save weight by powering it via the balance lead. Like we do with naked Gopro's. Would also allow it to be made smaller.
Interested in this, I like the thought process.
Thanks! Necessity breeds innovation they say! 🤙
Excellent info, THANKS
This is a very clever idea! I like it. Doesn't resolve all the issues (eg remote ID on part 107 micro quads and still needing to purchase fairly expensive RID module) but it's good!
Hey man thanks for the video!
My pleasure, thanks for letting me know!
Outstanding video! Thank you!
Thanks ! 🤙
Excellent work and a great idea.
Thanks!
I have a 107 and do gig work with my mini3 , and gopro equipped cinewhoop. I plan on being mostly in compliance with everything used for work related flights. However I won't stop flying my 20 gram whoops because I didn't put a I'd on them. They really need to make some changes. I would go broke if I put one on all my quads, and planes
Indeed, this is not a well liked rule, and for good reason. Some will comply, but IMO there will be mass non-compliance for sure. It will be the equivalent of driving 5 mph over the speed limit, technically not legal, but nobody cares except for that one old lady wagging her finger at you as you drive by... Just sayin' 😎
Just ordered mine great video 👍🏽
Thanks!
I did just purchase the RID for my MavicAir2 using your promo code (Thanks for the buck $1) Your video is clear and was helpful for this purchase. I’ll return to refresh my memory about the ROM update steps and HACK once the RID arrives.
Thanks for the feedback! I wish the discount was better for you, and directly from the original manufacturer (BlueMark) we did get a much better discount, but from the local supplier in the US it is a bit stingy. They did save us shipping from the Netherlands and reasonable shipping so not all bad I guess... 😎
GREAT work working with Bluemark on the firmware fix. Just an FYI when I received my Db120 it had the new firmware..
Thanks, That's Excellent! They said they would start including it in the next versions, and to be honest I heard Alien Drones sold them out! Was the new firmware configured as in this video or a different default?
Lot easier to make a small case in the form of a faraday cage. Remote ID final ruling states the module has to TRANSMIT the data, there is zero requirement for it to be capable of being received X distance from the UAS.
Can't confirm or deny this, but a flying roll cage would have many benefits! 🤙🤙
them modules cost as much as my drone, this is bs.
You have always been a voice of reason when it comes to this emotional issue and the only thing that I believe (besides cost) has been an issue is the Karen and criminal problem. This product seems to cover that 100%. Thank you for doing this great video.
Thanks! 🤙 BlueMark was great working with us to get this implemented...
Yep, this. No problem with RID except the public having access to it.
Very informative. Thanks.

Very interesting but perhaps a bit complicated for us non-super techy folks. Hopefully, we can have all this in order by September. Surely, I hate having to deal with remote ID. However, I now have several sub 250g drones but as soon as you add an extended battery or even a 3-mile compliant light on top of it, you now are over 250g! Sucks! So oh well. Also have a Mavic Air 2 that I am considering selling but not sure just yet. Thanks for the great info for us to learn.
Glad it is helpful, and thanks for taking the time to comment!
I also have a ma2 although I fly it much less now after having been on the business end of a 12 gauge because a gun nut freak show was paranoid I was spying on him while I was inspecting MY chimney. After my 3 batteries die I will scrap the drone most likely. It’s not safe to fly drones here in Murica…

Brilliant. Cool. Thanks.
John Doe buys RID module and tapes it to a feral cat to release at the nearest international airport. what happens next?
Poor kitty.
Hi Allen I just got my first Drone (DJI mini2se) for fathers day. Son got this for me so we can have some fun just flying in the park. I have been watching You Tube info. about these rules, license & certificate I was made to get the Trust by the son. Now I need to buy this so people & cops who hate drones can come and give a big fine or steal it? This is also for RC airplanes, this is going to be pricey just to have fun.
Great video!
Glad it is helpful, and thanks for taking the time to comment! If you are flying only for fun, the Mini2 SE is below the weight limit which requires registration so you don't need to add any modules, and it is not transmitting on it's own, so you're good! Correct, this is for RC planes also, but only those that are above 249g OR flown for commercial (part 107) purposes... 👍
I'm in the UK and mostly fly sub 250g but I have a bunch of planes that are over limit, they are gliders and scale war birds and sticking that thing on would spoil looks and performance.
No one doing anything nefarious will comply , it's just dumb.
Nice to see a work around for those willing to comply though, defo makes it safer.
Indeed, that's the thing about rules and laws, only the honest people follow them, and the ones who don't take advantage of them...
Thanks for this great video!
I would assume this also applies to the DB121pcb since the only difference is lack of battery and remote antennas?
That is correct, same process but different firmware. Note the db121pcb does have remote antenna and GPS, just lacks a battery. ruclips.net/video/GJBNqKafe-Q/видео.html

I do a lot of IOT device programming and I can say it's a lot like our vtx rules. It's perfectly fine to broadcast under low power, ike Bluetooth or network ssid, etc., on public frequencies. Signal boosters are widely available. All legal up to a certain point of power. Idk what power level that is but it would require specialized equipment requiring a license and be more expensive than most would spend the money on. What would create legal issues would be bypassing encryption or broadcasting on private frequencies. Which wouldn't apply here or every rid module would have licensing requirements and/or encryption keys. That said, it is the government. If you piss them off they will find a crime.
thanks for the info

Thank you for this information. I have a older drone and everything you covered in this video will help me.
My drone has about 20 min flight time. How much less will my flight time be you think? Or will this time vary by drone manufacturer?
Thanks! My guess is it won't effect it very much under normal circumstances. Most larger drones have power to spare so they can fight the wind so maybe just a tiny bit of time. If putting it on a mini drone I can see it knocking it down a bit more... 😎
Bangarang🤙
I appreciate that you've gone to the effort here so people afraid to non comply can continue to fly. (that's catchy) I do wonder though, why not make a phone app that puts out the signal and save the weight on the quad. Nobody is going to know the signal comes from the quad and not your phone anyway. It can just randomize the GPS and altitude data, so long as you're fling nearby what's the harm?
Thanks! I imagine since some remotes don't need cell phones they wanted to be sure to see the drone...
Your the man. Keep up the good fight as will we.
Thanks!
Hey great video very informative. But I have a question about connecting to the internet for the remote ID To be able to broadcast. I have an area that is located in West Virginia and it’s between mountains many mountains to be exact. And this area doesn’t have cellular service or wifi. When I fly into the area I have to wait until I get back into city limits before getting any signal to my phone. So I don’t see how remote ID can possibly work in locations such as this? I am however able to connect to GPS satellites with my DJI drones. And they still work in this area I just don’t have any internet connection.
Hello and thanks for the question! This is a common misconception as there is no cell service, WiFi or Internet required for Remote ID. This was proposed early on and was eliminated by the FAA before the rule was finalized. Someday they might revisit this, but for now no networking is needed. 🤙
I wanna know if you can make a bigger drone show as a mini dji drone with the remote ID. Just curious
Hi,
Thanks for your contribution to the firmware enhancements.
If I deactivate the "Reply to active WLAN scanning" function, will that prevent me locating my unit with my own phone when I land off-site?
If so, could the firmware be modified to allow a specific mobile phone access to the signal. That would allow the pilot access whilst excluding the "Karens".
I make mine invisible by not using one.
Of course! Flying in a FRIA is always an option. 😂
@@AlienDrones good luck getting a fria approved. the faa is NOT here to help with that.
How?
Thanks for this info! Wondering if any of the other RID's have this same configuration possibility? Didn't like the size and looks of this one, and the gray Potensic looks better on my FIMI S8 SE 2020 but don't know if there is a work around like the Blue Mark's.
Thanks! Nope, this is unique to the BlueMark. They are the only ones willing to go through the substantial extra work qualifying this version. Indeed I don't care for the form factor either, but...
Good morning cool channel nice hack
Thanks for this video. I have been flying RC aircraft since the mid '70s. As much as Remote ID is a hassle I understand how and why the FAA has had to resort to this. I am thankful that the AMA has worked with the FAA and has created the FRIAs so we can continue to fly at our AMA sanctioned flying field. I will be purchasing one of these modules to have with me when I fly at a non-FRIA site.
Thanks for the video but I'm Telling the FAA they are number one 😂😂😂
😂
sounds good
Outstanding video! It would be nice if the FAA cared about these potentially volatile issues surrounding this, but I fully expect them to be overwhelmed by the Karen's and others reporting drone pilots and events and interfering with law abiding drone operators as a result of their rule.
Thanks! 🤙
This is the 1st RID that makes sense. Cost of over $100 could be a problem considering the cost of drone?
Indeed it makes sense, I agree. If you're handy and want to stick the PCB on/in the drone and power it with the drone it's down to $119, which is better than the $300 that we started with, but of course still might be inhibitive for some and they'll probably just not comply...
I've heard there is a module that cost less than $40 coming out soon. Maybe worth waiting if you're adamant you want to comply.
I use an add-on strobe light on top of my Mavic, can I mount that on top of this module (so it's still 360 visible?)
Thanks for the info. I have a mavic2 pro that I will use this for, but what about my smart controller ( version1) ?
Thanks! I'm unsure what the smart controller will offer...

My DB12 is in hand and I’m trying to get things set up but want to do like you did with first seeing what it broadcasts in factory config then after reconfigure.
I can’t find a single app that tracks drones without subscription, purchase, or other data collection BS.
Any recommendations?
@@OpenCarryUSMC DroneScanner and OpenRemote ID are the two free apps I used and was able to see the broadcast. If you have Apple I don't think there is a free app available right now, something about Apple's configuration makes scanning difficult.
@@AlienDrones I do have apple. I bought the DB120 so I'll configure it to prevent Karens from seeing my drone. Not sure what I'll do when I get a new drone with built in RID but I've already gotten a police body cam and will carry some little printouts of Oregon state law which makes it a felony to interfere with a drone pilot.
