- Here a walk through/ride on an WMATA Metrorail 1000 Series Railcar on the Yellow Line Rush + on Monday. Recorded from Franconica Springfield to Van Dorn St station. Have to get all my videos and pictures of these while I still have a chance before they are retired. 300 out of 748 7000 Series Railcars will replaced the 1000 Series Railcars. WMATA goal is to retired all 1000 Series Railcars by December 2017. So enjoy your ride on them while you still can as WMATA first ever railcars are in the process of retiring. It sad that there no plans to preserve one pair of 1000 Series Railcars as it Washington DC first ever subway cars. Also if you want to find railcars #1000-1001 there on the Green Line now.

128 use for Silver Line Phase 1 & 2
300 to replace 1k cars in 2016-2017
100 to replace 4k cars in 2016-2017
192 to replace 5k cars in 2019-2020
The last 28 7k cars will be use for the Red line to eliminate the turn back between Silver Spring and Grosvenor stations on rush hour
Total of 748
Update: As of 11/17/16 all 4000 series railcars are being put into the middle of train due to safety concerns

I'm gonna miss the 1000 series railcars. It's just something about them that makes them so likeable to me.

Out of all of the MetroRail cars of Rohrs, Breda Rehabs, Original Bredas, CAFs, Alstoms, and Kawasakis, what was your favorite? Mine were the Original Bredas.
Gonna missed the carpet. I know all the other ones have it but that first time seeing it was cool AF
Yeah I'm going to miss the carpet too it looks more cooler with the carpet
It's sad to see these go. I remember riding a couple of those like 1061, 1196, and I think the other one was 1181 to be honest. I mostly rode a couple of rohr's, some CAF's, and a few breda's.

These cars get so much hate, but I actually prefer them over the newer cars- the newer cars have a sterile interior. This is more pleasing to the eyes.
the 4k cars are being retired as of now actually !
jamari ! Yeah I know starting 2/15/17 they will start retiring them
And is this the train that the Kawassaki 7,000 series trains are replacing? They look older than the others, however, this looks newer than the older NYC Subway cars
