  • The weather had cleared up a bit and our permit for the mud vulcano area was still valid, so we headed to the Dalis Mta Reservoir (which is the only place the border police allows camping). The track was fine but for a few muddy spots/puddles. We found a nice flat camp spot which already had a campfire pit (with some wood). The next morning we set out to the mud vulcanoes. Monique had two sites. It was a nice drive out there. Not knowing how deep/slippery the mud was, we were careful and checked the track in a few places. In one spot we needed all our toys (low gearing, all diff’s locked) to get us through. The vulcanoes are driven by hydrocarbon seeps. No surprise that we saw some wellheads and nodding donkey’s earlier on the track. We actually liked the 2nd location more as the vulcanoes there were more “muddy”. Afterwards we drove back to the same camp site as we wanted to drive a section of the track towards the Vashlovani National Park the next day.
