HZD is basically the introduction of the story.
So if you miss it.
You would feel detached from the game itself

I would recommend if lore, world building and story matter a lot to the player, they absolutely must play Zero Dawn first. If mechanics and exploration are the player’s priority, then Zero Dawn is likely optional before playing Forbidden West. (Though I suspect many who play Forbidden West first will likely play Zero Dawn anyways)

Well, I didn’t. My chronology was: Call of the Mountain (you do a machine safari there ;-), HFW, TBS, HZD, TFW, back to HFW+TBS and stay there. The correct chronology is: ZD - COTM - FW, and I know that now, but hey… that’s the way it was.
And I’m still doing large machine hunting safaris, and this time I can participate (I’d be damned if I don’t) and whack the heck out of those machines. Love it! 😅
