  • A little waltz (??) thing made in FL Studio 21 using more than just a piano!
i really want to slowly get into making orchestral stuff, and so I thought that taking a previous song and adding on to it might be a good place to start !!!

Everyone is talking about majesty, but there's a sweet nostalgic or melancholy pain in there. Like, the warm bittersweetness of a cup of tea in an empty house. But like, it's empty because everyone, even you yourself, are stepping forward into your respective bright futures.

  • @JayoliteMusic
    @JayoliteMusic Месяц назад +88

You can diminish a lot of the infighting between instruments by putting equalizers on them (like cutting the low end of a strings section you're using only to do harmonics).
Another trick is playing with the mono/stereo dial on the mixer. Both your strings and piano vsts have a very wide sound, which is making them compete for the same soundspace. By making one of them narrower (+mono), you can make that sound cut through more, while the other melts in the background.

this is very good advice !!
I'll be sure to remember this for next time :0
are there any common patterns or way of setting panning/stereo width among certain elements?

    • @JayoliteMusic
      @JayoliteMusic Месяц назад +9

@@AZALI00013 Most common panning would be for your percussions (snares and high hats slightly off the sides, emulating a real drumset, if you want them to come out). All bass elements (be it an actual bass or kicks) are usually set to mono, since they have duller sounds that you want to make hefty and solid.
When there's multiple instruments in similar ranges, panning one to the side can help it become more distinct, but don't do this with multiple melodic ones or it becomes messy.
Like, putting your rhythm guitar in one ear (solid chords) and just its melody in the other can work.

good advice but that being said you pretty much nailed the dynamics for the most part. much of the song sounds very polished

    • @charliekreller9826
      @charliekreller9826 Месяц назад +2

@@AZALI00013 generally instruments that are playing in the same octave range might benefit from being panned to different widths, or you might mono instruments that function as a "lead" (like a cello playing a melody line), though these are obviously not hard and fast rules. If I had to pick one element of this song to mono, either the piano or the strings, I would probably mono the piano, or might just use "bass mono," which converts a certain amount of the piano signal below a certain frequency threshold to mono. That being said, I personally probably wouldnt mono either element, I think acoustic instruments, or emulations of acoustic instruments, can sound very small or "collapsed" in mono, in part I imagine because we are used to hearing these instruments in stereo. For more clarity, eqing will likely be your best friend, especially dynamic EQ'ing. Beyond that, compression and playing with the pan widths of both instruments could give you marginal boosts in clarity, which can make a huge difference, especially if you're already very close to the finish line

The first one was someone alone in their melancholy, deep inside their thoughts with this one effectively speaking their thoughts to others and giving itself a small form of catharsis or relief.

"While the old lady was telling us the story of this village, i could feel how everything began to come "back to life", as if i was living inside a dream or maybe a memory.
Aparently in this little piece of memory, all the people were celebrating a holiday or something similar, everyone looked happy and prosperous.
While my companions were contemplating the warm memory, several questions began to flood my head.
How could a community like this become so dry of life, let alone just have 1 person left living in it?
Why is she still here, why didnt she leave?
What happened to all the people?
For a moment, i saw a lone girl watching in amazement at the beautiful decorations. Without missing a beat i looked back at the old lady, it was her, no doubt about it.
She had a little smile on her face with a tiny bit of visible sadness, or perhaps nostalgia.
Just how long has she been waiting?
At some point the memory/dream fades away, were all standing in the same little house, everyone in my group were confused to what had happened.
The old lady looked satisfied, happy to have had people to talk to.
I had no doubts anymore, she was the witch we were looking for. Maybe she could help us in our journey"
Just something i came up with after hearing this song. It was really nice

At the very end, they finally reach their new home, setting down their belongings, wondering how they'll start their new life.

A poem, preluding to the piece:
And so I stand at the edge, wondering
    for those different days
the ones that came to past
    the ones I miss
    the ones I missed
and the ones that'll never last
    dainty joys in a world
    trapped in a glass house
to wonder what it was for
    a philosophical cat and mouse
    I wonder
    and I wander
upon the clouds of this rich blue sky
    and remember how to fly
    Graceful
    Irreplacable
    My heart, full
    of childhood joy
(Beautiful piece, even if you consider it a work in progress. I'm not one to dictate genres [I find them somewhat silly at times honestly] but I consider this a soft orchestra of sorts. It doesn't have a grand pit of 8 players for every instrument, but a small group in a royal court. A well-practice, well respected group of passionate artists given the time they deserve.
I've been a fan of your music since I found it, and it continues my work into learning music. I hope you read this in good times, and enjoy what you do for what it is, a art filled with passion.)

There is no one way I can describe your music and that's what makes it so special. Most music I hear (I am speaking from the perspective of an animator who loves doing storyboards to music, a pianist that doesn't know shit about music theory and a dancer) feels very one-note and plain. Like it's pretty for the sake of being easy to hear, or layered with instruments just because, and that makes it hard for me to dance to it. But yours? I WANNA EAT YOUR MUSIC EVERY DAY EVERY MEAL
There are so many emotions present in your pieces and I can't get enough of how it sounds UGH UGH HH like you love challenging yourself to make a truly happy song but I think it's amazing how every song you make manages to have some conflicting emotion present. Like you can never truly feel happy, or powerless, or whatever emotion that directly opposes what the song has been trying to make you feel.
So now I'm in the process of convincing my ballet teachers to use your music for some of our next performances :D

dismayed not to hear a sudden, clashing bagpipe, but I still like this very much

    I'm OBSESSED??? OH MY GOD???
this sounds magical, and the quality is unbelievable for the short time you made this arrangement in!!
but I definitely agree that it might be fun to try orchestrating songs from scratch and consider instruments' roles in a piece from the get-go! it'll add realism and cohesion, I think :)

The glockenspiel is a bit too quiet for my liking but adding woodwind and stringed parts really helped with this. I suggest when you’re just starting to make orchestral pieces to make one central solo for one instrument, piano, violin, harp, whatever, and build around it with other instruments. Once you get more comfortable you can start to branch out more, mabye a piano/violin duet to practice balancing multiple parts. I don’t know, I’m just an orchestra kid.

this sounds like really good advice !!
I'll make sure to keep it in mind going forward >:)
I think something else I need to get a better handle on is how to best mix the instruments such that they don't fight each other :0
whether this means clever placement in arrangement, or like clever placement in audio panning

this sounds like a legitimate orchestra, and I honestly think you have a lot of opportunities in composing and in general the non-vocal side of the music industry.
I love your content so much, never change! ❤
