Halcyon days… I’ve fallen out of love with carp fishing over the last 10-15 years with kids, businesss work etc. I mainly lure fish these days with a couple of carp trips a year. But this and Tim’s podcasts have brought it all flooding back. I miss those days of the magazine peak. At that time I was a teenager/ school early 20s and carp fishing obsessed sucking in every bit of knowledge and bit of history there was in print. The books and the magazines were like bibles read over and over again. Massive pangs of nostalgia listening to these. Well done Korda, Jim, Tim etc. loved every minute of them. Might even have to start getting the rods out more.

It was me Jim referred to as the bloke who thinks you should be the next Chris Ball. I stand by that comment Rich. You are THE man.

Great podcast , I started carping the same month TC carp came out and it massively helped me at the time as I’d not even seen a knot less knot let alone tied one !! One 10lb carp later and 25 years later I’m still doing it . Massive thanks to Jim , great guest !

Love this podcast and an insight into the DHP days. I used to love Catchmore and then Total Carp and used to collect all the back issues. Sadly, I no longer have them but this podcast brought back a lot of good memories. Never forget how excited I used to get by a monthly magazine coming out.

I have to say, I absolutely loved that. Didn't know much about Jim before listening, beyond his magazine work, so it was fascinating to listen to the inside story. As a slightly older dad, the end range true, although my little one was on the bank when he was three weeks old and did his first night in a bivvy a few months later...

I fished York University in the 90s. I knew someone who worked in the electronics department called Carl. Made up excellent long sounder box cables. I, too, used to cast to that bridge. I was there last year for a rewards evening. Bought back good memories.

Listening to this as I work on my bench and the fact he mentions getting a bucket from Dan and to what korda is today is buy far the best mention to a man who has created a legacy in carp fishing 🎣 and many other things around angling

Eel Pie Island I think he's referring to David Gilmour from Pink Floyd! I remember Terry commenting on a video when trundling down the river one time with that wide boy Nick 😄

deffo a few rock stars living on the banks of the Thames on that stretch - The Rolling Stones were originally from Richmond & Cream were local too. Many years ago a friend fell out of his boat near Teddington lock & a guy jumped in & swam out to help him - tuned out to be Rick Parfit (Status Quo).

Ive been hoping to hear from someone like Jim from the wider circles of carp fishing and publishing. Really enjoyable cast, I'm sure theres plenty more for a part 2.
Can we hear from Joe and Rob Bell of Carpology, they've got some great stories to tell 😉

Really enjoyable episode - thanks for coming on Jim - you really helped positively change carp fishing & I have spoken to many people over the years who have had lots of good things to say about you. Lots of people say it was the Korda underwater vids & thinking tackle that really blew the scene up but Total Carp was the predecessor that set it all up.
I remember buying Catchmore (possibly the last one) that had loads of scantily clad women in it. Wasn't there a few girls fishing with Derek Ritchie in the early issues? :D
also remember the parody Total Crap that Singy created on the Cemex forum - Chilly with his balls hanging out - LOL
great stories about DHP, your life, passion & enthusiasm #hatdoffed
