I bought this tent specifically after watching this video. I have to say it has not let me down in anyway and the video was the perfect explanation of the pros and cons.
Iv'e also purchased this tent . Great design & really looking forward to testing it : ) I got the green one, which I prefer. How are you getting on with it?
@@shahids3055 Hey i also bought the green version tent. Did my first setup and it felt great, lots of space for such a small pack. I cant to try it out for real. Btw should i get some kind of ground cover for it or could i just go with it as it is?
@@MaDmanex100 Hi, I would definitely go with a groundsheet. I personally bought the official footprint, but you can use a piece of tarp, or any rectangular appropriately shaped groundsheet for this. Hope u enjoy using it : )
I bought this tent 2 summers ago (along with the meteor lite 2), and stuck with the meteor lite 2 because of the interior room and ease of set up. Also, I was really fat and the high side 1 was just too small for a 230lb claustrophobic me. But last fall, I got down to 180lbs, and I could finally fit in the High Side 1 and I really started to like it. It packs down really small, it's a really simple design, and totally functional. My complaints are about staking it out, and I would recommend that to avoid condensation, to really stake down all those guy lines. Sag happens, and I've woken up with a wet mesh when I was too lazy to stake out the fly properly. ... I had gone to sleep without the fly, but I could feel it getting cold, so I threw the fly over the mesh inner, which warmed up the area well, but also brought moisture. I really enjoyed your review and your enthusiasm. I've got a trip to Alaska coming up and I've been wondering if I should buy a Hilleberg (very popular up there) or if the High Side would suffice... and I think the High Side might be okay. I'm expecting temps definitely in the 30's at night, possibly 20s, but heavy snow is unlikely, and it's the constant rain, drizzle, and potential winds I'm trying to factor in to my decision. If you're reading this, and feel like commenting, do you think I'll be okay in the High Side in that environment? I mean, I'll spend money on a new tent if I need to, but I already have 6 tents, and I'm thinking while it might not be an obvious choice, it may be a solid choice. Anyway, thanks for your review and video!
On almost every tent set up I’ve seen you do, you make a critical mistake of extending the ground cloth beyond the tent. In rain that channels the water under the tent. The ground cloth should never extend beyond the tent walls. Just my two cents.
I took this exact tent hiking in Minnesota about 6 weeks ago a decent snow storm came though and dropped about 6 inches and had 30mph winds gust up to 45 for the the first 3 hrs the snow froze then later on lightened up. This was not a fortcasted storm and i was a bit worried but the tent took in like a champ and i had absolutely no major complaints. I like it
I like its features and the "high side". But I really mean that a serious hiking tent (or tactical tent...) always must have an exoskeleton tentpole setup. Makes setting up in dark and/or bad weather easyer and keeps the interior dry. If this tent came in a configuration like that and with low profile natural colors, it would be a sure winner for me. Thanks for reviewing it, Luke.
I bought this tent, love how easy it was to set up and how surprisingly large it was for its small pack size, i cant wait to start camping very soon with it. I got it for 350 dollars due to increased price recently. I got the green version,
great design. Sierra designs have remade a lot of their tents now for the EU market with less mesh and more fabric due to our wind problems. Very nice! they have also given the products are more neutral green colour for us. Why ever use a bivvy if you can just get this? perfect
Can I recommend a Six Moons Scout tent. It' a little smaller, but easy to set up and much less expensive. I've had mine for a couple of years and I'm very happy with it. Really appreciate your positive attitude and honest appraisals. Keep up the good work and be well.

Hey Luke, I'm curious to know if you could test and review the new updated version of the High Side. I'm not sure what updates it has besides the colours, which by the way I think you'll love.
Maybe its the Grunt in me, but if I am getting a tent just to stay out of the elements and be light, I will just stick with a large tarp for about 60 bucks!
true, but I also like a little bit of comfort. also, I agree with a lot on here. This tent is, imo, way overpriced. But i'm glad Luke reviewed it because it means I dont have to spend my money to realize its not for me, just like most 1p tents. Again, thanks Luke!
Luke, you make me wanna spend $208. Lord knows I don't like sleeping on the ground, even in a tent. Yeah, I'm a wuss lol Thank you for an honest, considered, experienced review. Take care, God bless, and keep up the good work.
I just got the miltech recon tent in fleknard. that tent is a large one man tent that is invisible in the woods. I'm replacing the fiberglass poles for Easton aluminum. they are the American alternative to DAC. the recon has 3 poles but the tent body Is free standing with 2 poles. I think il let the fly drape partially and save weight. the tent costs $100. it's heavy but it won't need a footprint and I will find out how much weight I can drop off of it. invisible is good. it could save a beheading or an arest because if stelth camping.
I wish you'd shown it with the vestibule down, like for a hard rain and I'd want to see how hard it is to get in and out of it that way. It really looks more like a bivy on steroids to me. That price seems too high for sil-nylon.
Just grabbed this on-sale for 167 bucks! Thanks for the honest review. The weights have changed on the website to Minimum Weight: 2lbs. 3.3oz Packaged Weight: 2lbs. 10oz I'm not sure how to achieve the minimum...ditch the mesh/poles and just sleep under the fly?
The new model is out and these older ones are being cleared out for peanuts where you can still find them. I just bought one yesterday myself for $170. $167 or $170, both are incredible deals as the new model has been increased to $300 and it doesn't look like they've done anything but changed the color, although it is a couple ounces lighter. I imagine they reach the minimum weight by removing the fly and all but the barest minimum number of stakes and guylines. Since it doesn't include a ground sheet there's really nothing else you can take away from it and still have a functional tent.
Cool tent, not quite my style. I use the fly Creek UL2. I like a little more space and the ability to bring my pack in with me personally. But love the awning feature the high side has.
On the bright side to the colors, at least you can easily refind your tent if it's your first time camping lmao. I imagine this tent might see some viability on major trails like the ACT (not sure about PCT due to all of the high mountain peaks and spontaneous snow). The stakes really may be the only thing holding it back. When you've hiked 20 miles the last thing you feel like doing is messing with that many stakes (they seem ultra light though given the base weight of this thing so that's a plus and you may not have to spend more to shave off that extra bit.)
For a throwaway light I like Ozark Trail for a good reliable light I like Streamlight they've been around forever good solid products out of them Maglite is also a really good reliable brand I've never used a Fenix product before

If you're wearing that hat because of a cancer scare I've gotta tell you, it ain't cuttin' it. You need at least a 3" brim, 3/2" -4" would be better, it won't be long before the UV's start to get serious & that hat you're wearing will be next to useless.
lol I was thinking the same thing. The color of that tent could be better. 🤮
yeah, I agree. I'm more of a earth tone kinda guy. I dont want to be that visible when I'm out camping. I like to somewhat blend in. I'm not talking decked out in camo but some nice flat earth tones.
Just picture this thing in coyote tan.
Lol...I wrote that before the end.
First view!!
Way to many stakes! And horrible colour, like the high side!!
My Eureka spitfire solo stands with 4 stakes, inner only 2 (also fully mesh)
High point over 1 meter, and it's GREEN.
1.6 kilo
120 euro
;))
Don't like it. You're short, you can barely get in it.
