Yooooo!!! You finally got to this! I'm a little sad that Ryan wasn't feeling this at all, but George caught a lot of what makes the song great. You touched on what the lyrics are about, but I think with a few more spins, the deeper message will kick in. Also the album as a whole is like a novel... each song is a chapter that builds to the overall story or points. The next track really partners with this one.

To be fair I think he meant the groove was strange, in that it isn't super consistent in and of itself, but stays consistent in that respect throughout the song. But I agree more exposure makes it easier to understand and groove with it if you aren't used to it. Just my thoughts!

they really should do more post punk. feel like they'd get a much better grasp for certain styles and sounds if they went back and did some gang of four or the fall or television. to me this song is pretty derivative of a lot of post punk but because George and especially Ryan aren't used to this style it sounds off.

Honest opinions are always valid, and I appreciate you guys for keeping it real. This song from a musician's standpoint has some pretty cool elements to it and the evolution of Paramore as a whole is cool to see. I disagree with Ryan thinking this song is all over the place or composed unusually. It has verses, a prechorus, a bridge and a chorus. Nothing weird. Maybe different than typical rock or metal sounds but musically normal.

Ryan... love you, my man. 😆🍻
This song has exactly the same song structure every other radio hit song has; intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus/outro.
What you "don't like" about it, is not a lack of form (unorthodox form), or fragmented structure; what you don't like, is the musical language, and the overall textures and influences that the song presents or makes use of.
That's obviously just a matter of taste, at the end of the day. But taste comes from exposure, from exposure comes experience, and from experience comes true love and understanding.
George did such a good job at pinpointing the genre feels of the song, saying that it was funky, jazzy, and psychedelic, it absolutely is! All of that. And this is why (😏) George was able to get a better grasp and liking for the product; because he just has more exposure, and therefore, more experience and love for the language.
Love ya both, tho! Gotta listen to everything! 👏🏼💯

btw, much respect to your opinions/perspective, I think this song in particular kind of grows on you when you listen to it in the context of the whole album.
As a bit of history for Paramore, they originally started as a high-energy, kind of angsty, punky rock group. After all, they were about 14-16 ish. But as they grew up, they got a lot of flack for trying to adjust their sound to a more mature (lyrically/sonically) type of group, because duh: they weren't kids anymore... they were adults trying to make sense of the world. Hence "Ain't It Fun" and the rest of that album (which was their 4th album). And that's not even taking into account all the drama of now-ex-band-members, Hayley's divorce, and subsequent therapy, etc.
and IMHO, this was kind of a branching back to their roots, while still not mitigating the personal growth they've all made.
But anyway, much love and respect to you guys, you rock.

I think that in a song of 3 minutes and 30 seconds is that normally we have a verse, chorus maybe a ilttle instrumental part and then it repeat all, sometimes we don't have even a intro. This song is different because we have all (intro, verse, chorus, bridge, little instrumental). I don't like at 100% the song but the level of musicianship and creativity is at a high level, as the arrangements. The song to me is inspired by the talking heads and several 80's groups

Paramore died after their Self Titled album but at least Hayley's voice has gotten so much better.

It's funny that they have no ideia about Paramore's pop punk era hahahaha but I understand it's not from their generation and not where they came from musicaly. It'd be interesting to see them react to one song out of each record just to see the band's evolution, even though I think that's not happening and they won't like it hahahaha but it'd be interesting nonetheless

This is a band I've never really listened to but, I heard this a couple months ago and thought, now here's a band with it's own unique vibe. It's really hard to come out with a song today that stands out. I feel like I've heard everything already and there was this.

Strange isn't bad. Strange is unique. Give it some more listens Ryan and I think you'll grow to appreciate how refreshingly different the composing of this song.

Another song from their newer album that's worth a listen would be "The News". Don't worry it sounds totally different than this one. It leans more into their old sound, while still having that "matured" feel you talked about at the beginning.

When Paramore was an actual band, they were pretty good. Now, half of the original band quit, they changed their sound to a weird 80s throwback band and tried to be all avant garde. Another band that is sticking around way too long

If you say no, you wouldn't like Gong (jazz/psychedelic rock from the 70's), nor Pink Floyd (they did psychedelic rock), nor the Beatles who "went south" after 1964, right?

I've listened to Paramore's older stuff but this was my first listen along with you on this song. I was just like Ryan. It felt disjointed and I was thinking, I don't like this when Ryan said exactly that.

Out of all the great Paramore songs… this is not the one ha ha anything on Brand New Eyes or After Laughter. Y’all would like “All I Wanted” or “Told you so”
