Too much
Serial Mom 1994, La Montaña Sagrada, Eraserhead 1977, The Rocky Horror Picture Show 1975, wait American Psycho 2000 was a dark comedy??? Is more like a thriller 😅
the menu
Man Bites Dog by a margin.
The Menu appears to be not much more than a Hollywood remake of Eat The Rich from 1987.
Truly a classic of dark humor
"Very Bad Things", about a bachelor party who accidentally kill a stripper, and have to scramble to cover their tracks, could also receive an honourable mention. At one point, one of the guys asks Christian Slater's character if he's ever murdered anyone before, and much like JD to Veronica, he doesn't answer.
I enjoyed that one 👍🏽
Aren’t you talking about Rough Night?
No he's right it's called very bad things
i loved the ending of that movie.
And at the end Cameron Díaz character did all to being able to marry but ended bad 😮 with one of the characters being quadraplegic!!!
"Death to Smoochy" How did we miss this Robin Williams classic?
Great film!!!
I Agee!
"Dr. Strangelove, or how I learned to love the bomb" is classic dark comedy: "you can't fight in a War room!"
Good catch. Whoever created this list should cringe at forgetting that one.
Oh excellent one. And it was especially dark during its release because that was an all-too possible reality back then. We just can’t empathize the same way now.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil is easily one of my top ten comedies.
That's my ultimate " You haven't seen this before? We are watching it right now!" movie.
I really liked the idea that it wasn't a simple parody, but an original story under the framework of a horror film.
@@donericdisante that one and what we do in the shadows for me
That scene from American Psycho where Bale does that little dance always cracks me up.
I’m very disappointed that they neglected Death to Smoochy. Edward Norton, Robin Williams, John Stewart, Danny DeVito and Catherine Keener. If you’ve never seen it, do yourself a favor and watch!
I did, I'm surprised they didn't mention it. Also honorable mention Serial Mom 1994 with Katleen Turner and the debut of Mathew Lillard!!!
"Heathers" is the definitive teen black comedy, and the polar opposite of the John Hughes comedies which were popular in the 80's. However, in a post Columbine World, the premise of teenagers killing their classmates and setting them up as suicides couldn't be played off as lightly today, as the show runners of Heathers 2018 found out the hard way.
The way that miniseries got treated by its network annoys me, because if they were going to make it in the first place, they should’ve known that it would be situated in the aftermath of a mass shooting.
Thank god we have the musical
Depressing dramas with a few laughs is not the same as a dark comedy.
The Death of Stalin, that had to make the list, far above Heathers to be sure.
How do you guys come to the conclusion that 'The Menu' is any type of comedy?
I agree. It's a satire which is different.
My thoughts as well.
Happiness by Todd Solondz. By far and away the darkest of dark comedy’s. Depending on how bleak your mindset is you could probably watch The Road as a deeply dark comedy too.
I agree with Happiness. How could you call The Road a comedy? I’ve seen it a few times and I’m searching my soul to find any humor in it.
@@ThePokersean Sorry, I was being facetious. The Road is the bleakest film I've ever seen. Closely followed by Happiness. One is funny, the other is just depressing.
American Psycho is a good one. Christian Bales performance is hard core phenomenal
"World's Greatest Dad" is an underrated movie, and one of Robin Williams' last performances. Daryl Sabara is great at playing such an unlikeable jerk, and though it won't appeal to everyone, it's still watchable.
It's by comedian / director Bobcat Goldwait!
Don't forget The Cable Guy
I would argue Man Bites Dog is a dark comedy: a film crew follows a murderer as he kills a variety of people.
“Death to Smoochy” was so good!!
"Brazil" should be here. Absurd, dystopian, dynamic, and bureaucracy gone mad, maybe even strangely foretelling.
Drop Dead Gorgeous. A very dark comedy about a Beaty pageant in a small town in the Midwest ❤️
THANK YOU!
No Tarantino movies?
I would maybe add The War of The Roses.
Oh - yes - that's a good one.
Bad Santa
"The Voices" should have been on this list, high up too
Serial Killer Mom, Inglorious Basterds, Super, Blazing Saddles, Parasite
A Clockwork Orange should have been number one. The lobster, delicatessen, dream scenario, frankly there are many black comedies that could have and probably should have made this list ahead of things like Heathers. In Bruges and JoJo rabbit do belong on this list however.
Now I get it why my dad didn't let me watch Delicatessen when I was a child 😮 but he allowed me to watch Silence of the Lambs 1990!!!
Tucker & Dale vs Evil
Too funny for this list.
The Cable Guy
Dr. Strangelove? Legit, a dark comedy with a phenomenally funny ending.. of everything.
Glad Heathers Is there.
I Actually Watched Jojo Rabbit, it was a Great Movie despite the History Behind the Source Material!
I would say "man bites dog" ( c'est arrivé près de chez vous) : a belgium movie from the 90's where a tv reporting crew follows a serial killer 24/7. Dark , funny , and sometimes very difficult to watch , this movie containing extremely violent scenes.
7:38 If our boy, Carnes really was trying to cover up everything Patrick did, is it mercy for him or Patrick?
"Eating Raul" combines swinging with cannibalism.
Omg! I saw that movie. Holy moly!!
The cable guy and Election deserve an honorable mention
Election is sn excellent movie. Whoever made this list needs to scrap it and try again.
Completely agree.
A little known dark comedy is "The Dark Backward" from 1991. Judd Nelson and Bill Paxton play garbage men, and Nelson is an aspiring stand up comic who's really bad. Then one day an arm grows on Nelson's back, and his routine becomes more of a freak show. The film also features James Caan, Rob Lowe, Wayne Newton, and other notable actors. It's quite the hoot.
American werewolf in London is missing
Not even a single mention of Todd Solondz? Happiness? Welcome to the Dollhouse?
Should have been #1... never seen anything darker than his movies
I was expecting ''Happiness'' to be on this list.
Death To Smoochy didn’t make the list??? I call bullsh*t!!!!
American Psycho was so funny, shame it doesn't have a definitive ending.
The pink flamingo I hope you got a strong stomach 😂
Harold and Maude (1971) - hands down my favorite dark comedy.
“Worlds greatest dad” is a bit creepy in retrospect, especially after Robin died. May he rest in peace
I thought The Wolf of Wall Street would make this list.
What about 'Ravenous'? Not so comercial for you? Too weird for you? It's more than a dark comedy. It's everything it wants to be. A masterpiece.
The Menu is one of the best movies of the past 10 years. Its funny, scary, and pokes fun at the foodie culture.
Happiness definitely should have made this list.
I probably agree for “Heathers” and “Pink Flamingos”, but other movies came to mind that are,
“Fritz the Cat”
“The Lobster”
“Killer Joe”
&
“Swiss Army Men”
Why isn’t “Tusk (2014)” on this list? Not only is it one of the darkest horror comedies, it’s also one of the most disturbing movies ever made.
1) Dr Strangelove should be number one: it's a comedy about nuclear annihilation.
2) I nominate the trifecta of cannibalism comedies: Eating Raoul, Parents, and Delicatessen.
Eating Raoul still makes me laugh.
Parents is a great movie!
Should put all of Quinton Tarantino movies since all of his movies are dark comedies low key
Excellent point! I love the dark comedy in his movies.
Im surprised Reservoir Dogs wasnt in the 10
That's because it's not a comedy.
@@toddgaak422 I laughed
I feel like Death To Smoochy and Cable Guy at least deserved an honorable mention here
Surprisingly, the only movie on this list I have seen is Fargo. I really like it!!!
Same. It should have been #1 in this group.
Worlds Greatest Dad is a hidden gem. It's hilarious and poignant. Watching it a second and third time is worth it, it gets funnier
Worlds greatest dad looks like the premise of dear Evan Hansen a bit. Someone that gains notice and attention because they posed as someone dead. Evan wrote fake letters between him and Connor posing as his friend and gained attention
American Psycho is not a dark comedy. It's a fugue state.
I've rewatched In Bruges and Fargo multiple times - spectacular films
No _Election_ or _Happiness_ ? How about _The Dark Backward_ ?
You guys are missing out.
Never read American Psycho as a comedy back in 1990. So there was a descrepancy between novel and movie.
Agreed. There was nothing funny about that read.
Surprised Snatch, Joker, The Big Lebrowski, A Clockwork Orange, Pulp Fiction & Natural Born Killers didn't make the list
To this day Natural Born Killers stand as one of the best.
Death to Smoochy, Fight Club, The Cottage, Severance, Voices, Banshees of Inishirin, Poor Things, The Favourite, Tusk, Smokin' Aces 1 and 2, Snatch, RocknRolla, Brazil, Teeth, Shaun of the Dead, Black Sheep, All My Friends Hate Me, American Animals, The Wolf of Wall Street, Project X, American Mary, Kill Your Friends, You're Next, Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang, Shallow Grave, The Lady Killers, A Fish Called Wanda, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Babylon, The Nice Guys, Evil Dead 2, Bulletproof, Nobody.
Worlds Greatest Dad is fantastic
That scene that they reference in the thumbnail is great. Directed by Bobcat Goldthwaith
I saw some of these. Trainspotting was a work of art for sure. That is true cinema.
The Great Ralph Fiennes is on two of these, and that says all you need to know about one of the greatest actors of our generation.
The cable guy: Starring Jim Carrey, is one of my favorite dark comedy films. 🎉
Bot
You need to add "Very Bad Things", "Freeway" and "Harold And Maude"
Where is Fight Club?? Always been my favourite black comedy.
Classes stars at 11
4:10 Well I see where they got the inspiration for “Joker” now.
War of The Roses definitely deserves honorable mention.
_Heathers_ or _American Psycho._ Which one should I watch if I want a good Friday night movie from the dark comedy angle?
The original "Neighbors" from the 80s with John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd is by far one of the utmost greatest dark comedies of all time. I see the Bob Goldthwait movie "World's Greatest Dad" made it but right up there equally as good is two of his other films, "Sleeping Dogs Lie" and "God Bless America" both dark and heartfelt and meaningful by the end. If you have never seen any of these 3 flicks I highly recommend them.
Neighbors was funny, weird, but funny.
Fargo is another work of art like Train Spotting. That is some real movie making. The Cohen Brothers are good at that. Anyone see Blood Simple ? That has got to be the original "Indy" film. The darkness of that movie surpasses a lot David Lynch's work.
Why is number one number one
Would you really eat dog poop? Divine did
The respect you earned for adding pink flamingos on the list is amazing
World's Greatest Dad is way better than it has any business being. I thought it was going to be a silly movie but it was actually really good.
“school is the society” should be the right tone for any teenage movie.
Lars Von Trier’s “The House That Jack Built” definitely deserves to be on this list. While it may disguise itself as an extremely sick and twisted horror, if you actually get the overall joke, it’s weirdly hilarious. It’s a lot like “American Psycho” in the sense that you as the audience don’t really know what to take seriously, because it’s all so ridiculous and over-the-top.
Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead should've got a mention!!
I don't see how these are comedies....
Gay emos thinks it is.
While not as dark as these, "The War of the Roses" hit some dark spots, about a feuding couple, played by Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas.
Death to Smoochy and The Voices??
The Menu was surprisingly good
I feel Four Lions deserved a spot, a British movie about a group of Muslim friends who get sucked into extremism and decided to carry out a suicide bombing on the London Marathon.
It's meticulously researched, and dark as hell, but genuinely funny.
"PINK FLAMINGOS" IS THE MOST CONTROVERSIAL LGBTQ+ FILM EVER MADE... PLEASE DO THE TOP 20 DARKEST BLACK COMEDY FILMS OF THE FOLLOWING:

11. Pulp Fiction
12. Jawbreaker
how do you make a list like this and not include “Very Bad Things”? It is the ultimate dark comedy and such a good film.
I have zero desire to ever watch Pink Flamingos.
There's a great dark comedy called On The Count of Three. Such a dark, wonderful movie about friendship and life and all the unfortunate aspects of life.
I wouldn't call American Psycho a dark comedy, more a psychological thriller.
I thought it was ironic that Robin Williams died the same why his "son" did in World's Greatest Dad.
I’m surprised Pain & Gain wasn’t on this list. It’s funny but so dark given that it’s a true story about such a heinous crime
Cold Blooded with Jason Priestley 1994
Can’t find it to stream or on dvd. I have a copy on vhs. If enough people search for it maybe it’ll stream somewhere for anyone who missed it. Not even close to his character in 90210 I promise!!
Pineapple Express & This is The End - For Seth Rogan Movies these had a lot of surprisingly Dark Moments.
Love Pineapple Express, l personally think it's a very underrated movie! You're right, loads of very dark comedy!!
This is the End isnt that dark, just because it approaches the apocalypse subject, it doesnt mean its dark comedy. In my view, its way funnier than dark comedy.
An American Werewolf in London
I’d like to nominate the movie “jawbreaker” as an honorable mention. Not the darkest but definitely note worthy.
I'm still shocked about Pink flamingos... the final scene was the cherry on top... 😢
Observe & Report. TOTALLY underrated.
How can you make a list of dark comedies and not include the most classic famous darkest of all dark comedies? Dr. Strangelove
Four Lions, Death of Stalin, Life is Beautiful could all be on this list- especially Life is Beautiful. Seven Psychopaths would make my list as well.
