Bass player is smacking and so very well complimenting the guitar during that split around 13-15 minutes. Sick bass!

It may not seem that way listening to this mix... but Dream Theater vocalist James LaBrie is like Rob Halford in concert. His voice is like a siren on stage... I've seen him perform 6 times w/ DT and he really cuts thru the mix, even when the band is LOUD as eff!
I've only seen a handful of vocalists that can pierce your brain in concert: James La Brie, Rob Halford, Tim 'Ripper' Owens, Tommy Karevik (Kamelot), Todd LaTorre (Queensryche)

i stop going to DT live concerts because of the voice of James Labri. I went lo all the tours from 1997 to 2009. There was some point that you want that all the songs were instrumentals, i swear it. And i'm a big fan of his work in images and words and Awake, but his voice got worse with the years live and it's unbearable to hear. I skipped the 20th anniversary of scenes from a memory, one of my favourites of all time, to not waste the beatiful memories i had from the album.

The 2003 DT album 'Train of thought' was a metal record... Mike Portnoy (drums) wrote the lyrics to this track.
He said at the time that DT had done the concept prog record ('Scenes from a memory') and a double epic prog record ('Six degrees of inner turbulence')... So they wanted a metal record overall in 2003 that was inspired by albums like Metallica's 'Master of puppets' or Maiden's 'The number of the beast'.
'Train of thought' turned out to be 1 of their best albums. I think u guys did 3 songs from it already... 'In the name of God' ... 'As I am'...
The rest is awesome & heavy too...only 1 ballad of 7 songs... 'Endless sacrifice' ... 'Honor thy father'... r killer!🔥🤘🤘

Why does no one ever suggest anything from Octavarium? Someone told me that you guys did do the title track but I can't find it anywhere and I'm somewhat doubting that's true. Literally anything off that album is a fantastic song that even Vin would bop to! (even though he has to many of their songs despite claiming to not be a fan lol)

Hi Vin, Hi Sori.. Thank you so much for listening and talking about this track. I'm a 64 year old Christian rock and metal fan who started out listening and still love Purple, Sabbath, .etc .. love Metallica, Opeth , Dream Theater and many more.
Dream Theater are classed as a progressive metal.
This track is from a album called Train of Thought...a few of the tracks haye very hard hitting themes ... Check out.. Honor thy Father , Endless Sacrifice and In the Name of God...the lyrics are thought provoking.
A lot of people think that metal is just music of the devil...but of course they deal with dark themes and issues... that man inflict upon each other..and .not saying that dark is the way to follow. I really enjoy your reactions and discussions. Rock Hard, Rock Heavy. Peace and love from Liverpool UK 👍✌️🤘✝️

Been binging your reaction videos and gotta say I really like both of your views and insights on the tracks you listen.
Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on either Aphotic Layer's Road to Perdition or The Berzerker's All About You.
    Keep up the great content!

The drummer is singing the backing vocals. It's almost like he's the author and main character of the Alcoholics Anonymous Suite. Like the lyrics are depicting his life. Step by step in the 12 step program.
The song doesn't end there. It continues on a different album.

@@briansanders6247 You can take a horse to the water not force them to drink.. same with them. The guy hates prog and will hate it till his last day on earth. I'd rather they just not react to prog bands anymore instead of shitting on them.

The drummer, Mike Portnoy wrote the lyrics of this song as part of a series of songs called the Twelve Step Suite where he talks about how he quit doing drugs. Each song has multiple steps that is explained in the lyrics of how he quit.

    • @tarkus1056
      @tarkus1056 2 года назад

He didn't quit drugs, he quit alcohol (which is a drug). The Twelve Step Suit is based on the twelve steps of the Alcoholics Anonymous program. Every song includes one or more of these steps. 12 steps, 5 songs.

funny story me and my two brothers are sitting around in our jam room playing some music and the conversation comes up what do you think the best metal song in the world is and I said I'd have to say endless sacrifice which is off this album and then one of my brothers said I don't know I'd say honor thy father which is also off this album and then the third brother of course says no it's this dying soul. So yeah the three of us had the best metal song in the world as three different metal songs off this album great album you guys need to get into
