Happy New Year everyone!!!! Welcome to 2023! Before we embark fully on the new year ahead of us we have a wee round up of 2022!
Instead of just listing our favourite drams of the year we decided to get a bit more creative and create our own wee awards ceremony, just voted on by us! It’s a wee round up of our memories from 2022!
Here are all the categories and the winners we chose. Let us know in the comment what your choices would have been!
1. Best Basic Bitch Whisky - Old Pulteney 12 Year Old.
2. Biggest Let Down - Scapa 16 Year Old.
3. Best Smell - Cardrona 7 Year Old Pinot Noir Cask.
4. Best Randan (day out - not the more traditional rowdy drinking session meaning, although many fantastic drams were had!) - Lindores Abbey Distillery.
5. Billy Walker’s Bath Water - Rachel - Deanston Virgin Oak Jen - Lindores Wine Cask.
6. The Mouldy Orange Award - Adelphi, Ardnagherkin.
7. Best Springbank Alternative - Ardnamurchan.
8. Hippy Whisker - Stravaig Spirits, Tri Carragh.
9. Top Whisky Moment of 2022 - Rachel - Lindores Wine Cask while cleaning the house after being on Aqvavitae Jen - Tobermory 12 at the top of Ben More on the Isle of Mull with Kerry and Erin.
10. Best Commenter - @bdwilcox (honorary mention to Jimmy Leg’s comment when we were on Aqvavitae).

Awwww. That was a late Christmas present, to be sure, and an amazing way to start off the new year! And I'm glad "The Moldy Orange" (TM) has become immortalized, and very deservedly so, in Grail lore.* When I retire, I think I'm going to move to Scotland and open a pub called "The Moldy Orange" (TM) and whenever an American comes in, we all turn to them and scream in a heavy brogue , "Keep off the moors!" **
As ALWAYS, you guys are the best!
* Full disclosure, I do resemble The Moldy Orange (TM) in both stature and personality.

Another reason to re-watch The Grail's videos. When I go back to watch the dodgy subtitles, I'll be keeping an eye out for your comments.

Excellent video. Funny but also well informed. I also loved your recent appearance in the dramface podcast. Made me laugh out loud whilst walking the dog listening to it, which got me some very funny looks!

Great 2022 lineup! My home in the frozen Canadian city of Winterpeg limits my access to many of the bottles you discuss but that just adds to the challenge! I do have a bottle of the OP 12 tho and I totally agree. I envy your ability to smell the whisky goodness - my nose hasn't been the same since I walked it into a glass wall a few years ago. Sober but clumsy! Cheers and all the best for 2023!

Old Pulteney 12 is definitely one of my go to's at the supermarket for sure especially with the recent price drop! My Mouldy old Orange would have to be Glen Moray Elgin Classic its the only single malt I'd refuse even in coffee........Boggin would be my thoughts and given away on both counts of having in my possession.
Oh not tried this one but its funny when you find one that everyone else seems to like and you just can't get on with!
Love to see New Zealand Whisky getting a bit off love and agree that Cardrona is producing some amazing stuff....but the baby bottles are an issue.
The one we mention here, the 7yo Pinot noir come in a 70cl!

Lol on the Scapa 14 being the biggest let down.
I’ve had the Scapa Skiren and Glansa. Best I can say about the Glansa is that it was drinkable. The Skiren, not so. Given up trying to drink it neat or with with water. Now using it in highballs, and even then I can’t enjoy it. It’s going to have to go down the sink I think. I’ve noticed that in Australia the price has dropped from Au$139 to Au$89.👅
BTW I see your wearing nail polish in the colour classic laddie.

Very interesting, my personal favourite newish distillery at the moment is Kilchoman. They have a great ethos. If you havnt yet done so, try the Kilchoman Sanaig. It’s delish. Maybe you could do a video tasting of this. It’d be interesting to hear your take on this dram.
We love the Sanaig! Interestingly I didn't like it much at first but within a few years I love it! Not sure if it has changed of I have changed?! Probably a bit of both!!

My hippy whisker is Ballechin, I feel like their only regular release (the 10) seems to be so polarising that it stops people trying all their official single cask releases which are all amazing!

Great Award show! But you are going to have to put up sub-titles to translate Scots to American. What's a Ran Dan? That sounds like some Thai noodle dish. And why would you want to drink some guys bathwater, but it sure sounded like you enjoyed it. I'm definitely missing something there.
