The five dislikes (and counting) obviously cannot comprehend cutting edge creative music. Every song of David’s is timeless and brilliant. Granted, there are some songs I don’t like. However, I appreciate how brilliant and unique they are. Only the great ones produce music that NEVER ages! Of course David Jones was one of them. #RIPStarman #Ziggy4Ever
A real landmark album - a bridge- what had been and for what was to come. There was something in that restless mind of his. In 1980 he had collected it.
I'd consider it more a destination, this is where David really achieved putting his personal stamp on music. The Berlin trilogy was a trial of sorts, experimentation to perfect the merging of genres he is famous for.
@@markrago5338 that and after this album, Bowie seemed kind of bored with making masterpieces, opting for a much more experimental and diverse than most would expect (who thought Bowie would do industrial thriller rock and jungle music?). Scary Monsters is his most complete work though, it feels like somethign he needed to get out, pretty much every song on there is inspired.
I know Bowie was mentally shattered after Scary Monsters, as he'd also gone through a divorce, but I always think it was a big shock from Scary Monsters to Let's Dance. An album in between these two would have softened the blow somewhat.....an album that had elements of both Scary Monsters AND Let's Dance in it. That would have been great, but as I said he needed a break after Scary Monsters, and no one can begrudge him for that.

I can't confirm exactly but I've always thought the opening effects of "It's No Game (No. 1)" is the start of the studios reel to reel tape machine, capturing Bowie's angst as he begins his journey over the LP, finishing at "It's No Game (No. 2)" with the tape coming to the end. The sound at the end being the tape whipping the full spool, rather like an old projector. Perhaps it symbolises the start and end of a cathartic journey for Bowie with this LP ? Just my thoughts anyway !
Its the reel to reel tape recording machine. When you come to the end of the reel the tape comes out the original reel and onto the other one (The full reel which is the recording) the sound is the end of the tape flapping as it spins around.
