I was married to a Sociopath for 28 years. It is interesting to hear from a Sociopath and how she respond to these discussions.

The two words you used are interchangeable depending on which psychologist you ask. Even the psychology community debates that.

She said in her book that she isn’t actually a psychopath because she wasn’t born that way, but her trauma with her family clearly played a role in her abandonment and abuse coping. She stated that she refers to herself as psycho instead of socio because it’s just easier and less nuanced to explain

@@HH-kg4fq the terms are unofficial but they are generally understood as marking different extremes of the ASPD spectrum. sociopaths are more impulsive, erratic, and aggressive than the carefully thought-out, "high functioning" psychopath

A better way to understand this is to know that sociopath is not a clinical term . There is primary and secondary psychopathy. Primary is associated with being a “psychopath” thought to be inherited & genetically based while secondary psychopathy is generally associated with anti social personality disorder- a psychopath- appears emotionally stable- a sociopath appears emotionally unstable.

I thought psychopaths had limited emotions or non but I thought sociopaths could at time have less control. 🤔

Anti social personality disorder signs seem more like a CHARACTER flaw, not a personality issue.

One thing I would like to clarify about being rational. I know a lot of people that buy a car through how it looks, what image it will project of them and maybe what color it is. Then, they end up with an unreliable POS car that costs them an arm and a leg in maintenance. Similar with grandiose weddings, unnecessary loans, buying expensive fashion items, etc. I would say that emotion here is actually a negative thing and a sociopath might have an advantage. Also in business environment, stock markets and possibly software development.

Enjoyed 1st half of broadcast and found informative, 2nd half broke down to the unhelpful narritive that Group A should be nicer to Group B. I think the majority of us know that already at some base level, and the implication that we must do more of it just seems heavy handed and even somewhat condescending

  • @nicoletalmadge7276

And empathy can actually contribute to someone being a victim of abuse by a sociopath. This was my experience.

Surrounded by exploitative, manipulative sociopaths - just remove the mask if you truly don't care what people think abput you. Instead of lying to gain our trust , meet someone and say "hi you look kind, I'll see what i can get from you before leaving you for dead"

29:30 yeah well, I would not know, why a fucking sociopath/psychopath should work on their empathy?? I don't want to be either of them, but from their point of view, it's like: I learn to suffer - and that even on behalf of others. How would that make sense?
