A big misconception is that it's a show about snobbery. Its really about snobs unable to interact with the real world, which adds a layer of intellect to the writing. Just awesome.
@@lewisfraser4153 very good point, some shows tried to copy the snobbery in Frasier but they missed that subtle point and so they ended up just being actually snobbish. Frasier is a show about a snob but it’s never snobbish itself, quite the opposite you could say, it lampoons the snobbery of Frasier and Niles. Then you look at a show like Big Bang Theory that tries to imitate that with that Sheldon character, but the show doesn’t really lampoon his snobbery, it actually indulges in it itself, when Sheldon is being a weird condescending asshole and mocking someone’s intelligence or whatever, he’s speaking for the show/writers and the target audience who are actually all being snobs.
They remembered to make the snobs themselves lovably complicated people who are worth the emotional investment as are all great sitcom and fictional characters.😂☕☕📺B.W.
People always credit the characters, but the true talent belongs in the writers and in the actors. Although, Niles is arguably the funniest of the bunch.
This scene got to me the first time it aired, and now and again I remember it and the effect is the same. There's something really bittersweet in Frasier's tearful admission, "I made our father cry!" said with such regret and shame. It's funny yet humbling watching the two grown, intellectual sons reduced to children in seconds by seeing their older father crying. It's easily my favorite scene from this show, and one of my favorite moments of television. “When a thing is funny, search it carefully for a hidden truth.” ― George Bernard Shaw
Lots of comments about Niles "No one wants to come to my party" line but can we take a moment to appreciate Marty crying out "I can never do anything for my sons"...man just wants to do something nice for his kids and got rejected by both.
Niles at 4:56 - "You know how I get when other people cry". A therapist who can't handle people crying is about as useful as a surgeon who can't stand the sight of blood. That being said this an incredibly funny and touching scene performed by three great actors
A therapist who can't handle other people crying. I hadn't noticed that! Another gem, along with him hoping to offload raffle tickets on his compulsive spenders' group!
Marty: “I’m getting rid of that damn painting right now, I just wish I knew why you told the waiter you loved it so much” Fraiser: “I was LYING to him!” Marty: “Oh, you can lie to him but you can’t lie to me!”
This act, particularly the last ninety seconds, is one of the most brilliantly written, acted and directed scenes ever in the history of television! 🍻 💥
This episode is some of the most heart rending comedy I've ever seen. This scene hits much harder after seeing the pride on Martin's face when he presents the painting to Frasier. John Mahoney did such amazing work throughout this series and this episode stands out to me as the epitome of everything great about the character of Martin Crane. He played the part with this unique amalgam of fatherly warmth and childlike exuberance that strikes a cord within me unlike anyone else. He is sorely missed.
Niles is what made this scene so funny. "No one wants to come to my party." LMFAO! Pop would have come out of my nose if I was drinking a soda during this scene.
kendall rivers no one was putting them down, it was all in how niles responded. Because this show is a comedy, they set this scene up for the character niles.
I’ve noticed that both Frasier and Martin start cleaning the kitchen when they’re upset. Martin does it in this scene and Frasier does it in season 8 after Daphne and Niles both scream at him for interfering with their relationship. Such a brilliant little thing.
Haha, Marty is upset that his son won't lie to him like he does to others - but the real reason for the tears, was the outrageous amount of money he spent on that painting.
I think that was a cover up for the fact that he can never seem to please his sons and they don't really understand each other because of their differences
Even as a kid remember feeling remorse when my Mum got me something I didn’t really want and she got upset about it and it made me then want to keep what it was, glad I haven’t experienced that as an adult would feel a lot worse I’m sure after seeing this
I saw this episode last night on the Hallmark channel so damn funny, especially Niles at the end.Frasier: I'm only crying because you're crying.Martin: I'm not crying! I don't know what this is I didn't even cry when I got shot.Frasier: I didn't cry when you got shot either.LOL pure gold and it was funny when Frasier started running to the table when Niles came back like he didn't want to be the first to be seen crying.
Wow man you couldn't pick two more different comedies yet both are equally hilarious. Those two, Seinfeld, Roseanne, Fresh Prince and Martin are the funniest and best sitcoms of the nineties.
This scene is so damn funny! 😂 Gotta love Marty’s reaction to Niles as he whine cries and waves him away and also Niles saying, “No one wants to come to my party!” 😂😂😂 Niles cries for a completely unrelated moment.
While on the subject of paintings, did anyone notice that the iconic painting of the vases in the back undergoes a transformation? In the earlier seasons it has more warmer tones and colors and the vases are thinner. Later it changes, the vases change, and there's more blue.
martin:i just wish i knew why you told the waiter you loved it so much...frasier:i was lying to him...martin:you can lie to him but you cant lie to me lmao favorite part
How sweet !.. such a good scene .. it did happen with my mum .. 😍😍 I love how two grown men just turned into little kids who hate seeing their daddy cry x So accurate !
This scene always makes me cry XD I just feel way to much empathy with Frasiers horror at making his dad cry. If I made my daddy cry I'd just die inside
I really loved the later seasons version of Niles... He wasn't desperate for love, he wasn't jealous of Frasier's success, and he wasn't a coward unable to stand up for what he believed in
This scene’s ending is funny precisely because, unlike laughter, crying by infection without knowing the reason is rare, but also makes me wonder why laughing is infectious the way it is, in that simply looking at a video of a random person laughing heartily makes you laugh.
One of the really cool and unnoticed things is the way that Kelsey Grammer can growl an epigrammatic line to give it maximum dismissive effect. Such as the comment he hurls at Niles about a "starched shirt"!😂🤣☕☕👔📺B.W.
'whys everybody crying?' if i didnt know it i would say niles is the baby brother just from how he says that asdfk your younger sibling will walk in, see ur crying, and start crying just because youre crying also i teared up a bit watching this oh no
Frasier is the perfect storm of brilliant writing, casting, and acting.
Not anything like it since. Imho one of the truly last classic great sitcoms as well as Everybody Loves Raymond that ended a year after Frasier did.
A big misconception is that it's a show about snobbery. Its really about snobs unable to interact with the real world, which adds a layer of intellect to the writing. Just awesome.

"NO ONE WANTS TO COME TO MY PARTY!!!!!" why is niles always so so funny
Because he's awesome!

Niles is so great
ITS CALLED......GOOD WRITING....
@@degsbabe
Good comedy doesn’t always come from good writing. Execution of the writing is key.
Who’s to say it wasn’t an improvised line?
"Thank God for the starch in that shirt or there'd be nothing holding you upright." -- brilliant!
As a son, the line "i made my father cry" really hits hard.
Marty (Crying): I didn't even cry when I got shot!
Frasier (Also crying): I didn't cry when you got shot either!
🤣🤣🤣
top five exchanges in all 11 seasons.
"Why is everybody crying?!"
Omg Niles sounds like such a little boy
Like someone took his cute little pony. 😂😂
"😢I made our father cry!"
A masterclass in acting, Martin randomly touching things in the fridge, the way Niles voice goes up as he asks why everyone is crying. Sublime!

I love how Kelsey Grammar walked away in shame when Niles walked in. Brilliant actor.
That delivery on "I made our father cry!" kills me every single time. 🤣🤣🤣
and once again, Niles' delivery is just the cherry on the top of a great scene
Love it when Niles asks why everyone is crying and Martin just waves his arm and wails.
Lots of comments about Niles "No one wants to come to my party" line but can we take a moment to appreciate Marty crying out "I can never do anything for my sons"...man just wants to do something nice for his kids and got rejected by both.

Doc Martin?
+Lucy Hunt Doc martin, what a good show, i thought i was the only one who knows that show.
Lewis 970 this is family
@@ferdinandfrancis9673 Doc Martin is a hilarious and clever series.
A therapist who can't handle other people crying. I hadn't noticed that! Another gem, along with him hoping to offload raffle tickets on his compulsive spenders' group!
I made our father cry. Adorable Niles with his worried voice. You know how I get when other people cry.
"I didn't even cry when I got shot."
"I didn't cry when you got shot either."
lol
"Oh my god! I made my father cry!" 😆😆😆 absolutely hilarious scene
NO ONE WANTS TO COME TO MY PARTY!!!
IMAO!!
I think the comic genious here is as he says those words, he knocks into the wine rack!
I'd go😍
"I'm NOT crying, I don't know what this is. I didn't even cry when I got shot!"😂😂😂😂😂
"I didn't cry when you got shot either" Hahahahahahahahaha
The part where Frasier runs away when Niles enters the room is pure class.
Great show, love every episode of this unforgettable dream tv sitcom.
Marty: “I’m getting rid of that damn painting right now, I just wish I knew why you told the waiter you loved it so much”
Fraiser: “I was LYING to him!”
Marty: “Oh, you can lie to him but you can’t lie to me!”
This act, particularly the last ninety seconds, is one of the most brilliantly written, acted and directed scenes ever in the history of television! 🍻 💥
This scene made me want to hug Niles sooooo badly. Well, even worse than I already do!!!!! He's the most adorable and lovable guy!
Pure genius. I'm crying thru my laughter and laughing thru my tears while watching this.

This scene is so sad and yet so funny. Just goes to show this show (no pun intended) was pure genius. :D
Yeah. Everyone, including Niles, has a legit reason to be sad (Niles is having his social circle stolen away from him), but it's played so well.
As a ardent Frasier fan, this scene pulls at my heartstrings in so many directions.
Niles is what made this scene so funny. "No one wants to come to my party." LMFAO! Pop would have come out of my nose if I was drinking a soda during this scene.
All three made it funny. No need to put down Kelsey and John.
kendall rivers no one was putting them down, it was all in how niles responded. Because this show is a comedy, they set this scene up for the character niles.

1:03 Niles‘ little jump is so natural and funny 😂😂😂
Haha, Marty is upset that his son won't lie to him like he does to others - but the real reason for the tears, was the outrageous amount of money he spent on that painting.
He said he'd take it back.
I think that was a cover up for the fact that he can never seem to please his sons and they don't really understand each other because of their differences
"I was lying to him!"
"Oh you can lie to him but you can't lie to me!" Brilliant
Wow. Just so well acted. Frasier is brilliant.
BEST SCENE between these three
Even as a kid remember feeling remorse when my Mum got me something I didn’t really want and she got upset about it and it made me then want to keep what it was, glad I haven’t experienced that as an adult would feel a lot worse I’m sure after seeing this
Brilliant! All 3 actors at the top of their game in this scene. Isn't this Kelsey Grammer's favourite episode?

I laughed at this way more than I should have, especially Niles at the end there
“I don’t know what this is, I didn’t even cry when I got shot 😭”

If Daphne walked in on all of them crying what would she think. Crying Cranes.

HOW THE FUCK DOES THIS ONLY HAVE 12,000 ODD VIEWS? IT'S GENIUS!!
@Piccadillyo same, Frasier balances drama with sidesplitting comedy perfectly :)
That´s soo funny and so sad at the same time :)
