I put 43,000 miles on a 15 Touring and have almost 67,000 miles on my 2020 GT. For me there is no comparison, I loved the Touring but the GT does everything better by quiet a margin in my view. Great review by this provider though. I appreciate it.
I test rode both a couple years ago, and it actually pushed me towards buying the older one. and this was after I concluded that the newer one was a better bike in every conceivable way. for me, as I already had a super performance bike, buying the rocket was never about how well it rode or how good the brakes were, it was about getting the biggest baddest cruiser I could find and in my opinion that was the older model. I purchased a near perfect condition 2016 Rocket X number 424/500, with dave platt exhaust, fat T bars, and a corbin single seat.
I 100% understand your thinking and logic behind this, the older one does have something about it, that the new one doesn’t. The first terminator is still the best one there was, even though the new one is quicker, faster, harder and can do more. The OG has that genesisquoi. 😅 (or however that’s spelt) I love my new GT. But the old one won’t be forgotten 🙏
Just watched your R/GT review and now this one. Great job. Ordered my GT with mid pegs and quick shifter, and picking it up end of Sep. Neighbour and I took the GT and R for a test drive, and we are both around 6’2” and liked the R’s pegs and GT’s bars. Good to see your confirmation on the mid per selection. Cheers
Happily enjoying the 2017 roadster.. love the exhaust sound. Had its sibling storm 1700 , a crazy twin too, and last but not the least a Thruxton 900 cafe too. I am really impressed with the smoothness and the exhaust notes of all of ' em
I still have my 2012 from the dealeraship , for a while i thought about upgrading to the new one … but to me is about raw feeling , the new one has to manny gadgets and i’m oldschool, soo hell , I’ll save a bunch of cash and send my old bike to carpenter racing and get that second stage 214 hp upgrade engine , and yes the position of the old one … you feel like in a madmax movie villain, its soo confortable for the highway
Nice video. Thanks! I have a 2020 R purchased new 3 years ago. I never even considered purchasing the 2300cc for a very simple reason. The old rocket is a gigantic to the point of intimidating me. The new rocket is surprisingly compact given its 2500cc engine. It’s may be just 3/4 of the overall size of the 2300cc rocket.
Had the Roadster, have the Rocket TFC. Both magnificent machines but for me, the new variant is substantially better in every department. But, I still love the old variant. Rode through former Eastern Germany with 120 other Rocket riders in July this year at the Rocketdays event. Awesome! Rockets, new and old are awesome! Cracking video btw!
I got a 2018 Roadster the same black with white strip as yours, bought it in 2018 before triumph show us what the 2020 would be like and back then I was afraid that because of euro 5 regulation they would come out with a smaller bike with smaller engine and that I would lose the chance to own the last real muscle bike! I'm happy that the new one is as badass as the old one and I am planning to get a GT in 2025-26 hopefully by then they would have unrestrict the engine and increase the power (so that I don't have to do it myself).
When you get the bike - You won't be disappointed, she's a beast, even standard..... I am SUPER happy with mine... But unrestricted is a whole other level of bonkers... ;)
This is a great video and I really appreciate you going into depth about both generations of this amazing motorcycle. I own a 2009 Rocket 3 Classic and the power is amazing. The brakes are outstanding. You don't see any for sale anywhere in the country, and there's a reason for that.😌👍👍
I have had my roadster 2014 since April 2015 it has been a great bike. The suspension is sport not suited for distance you can do it but your back will feel it later. Love the new one but I feel I still would rather have the older model less tech and gadgetry appeals to me do not want or need riding modes etc
Love the roadster i demo ride it a couple years ago and i was amazed by the torque but now that i own a 2020 GT version of the Rocket im glad that i waited before purchase it the new version for me is better like you said its a head turner for sure its a rare motorcycle to see on the road. Great video and hello from Montreal Quebec Canada.
Hey from the other side of the world, and thank you for watching / commenting, it means a lot. I love the Roadster however…… I looooooooove the GT 🙏😎🫶🚀
This is a great review. I’m looking at the roadster 😃. Where did you get the LED headlamps from for it, and with the ram air induction did you need to do anything when you upgraded or did the ecu just adjust itself ?. Thanks again for the review 😃😃👏🏻👏🏻
Hi Jason, thank you for the kind comment, I'd love to be able to help here, I brought the bike with it all done, LED kit was from a custom web-site, not ebay (I don't know which one) the ram air again fitted before I brought it, But I know it was remapped with this ad on. I hope this helps.
Hi, so speak to Tomey at Dart - www.dartmotorsport.com he knows his stuff, really nice guy, was racing with him a few weeks ago, TBH figures I can't remember, Id have to have a look at paperwork when I'm home later, ill do my best to remember and reply.
Would you consider the old Roadster too much bike for a 5’9 190lb male that mostly does city riding? I like the cruiser style of the old model much more than the new design. I currently ride a Harley Vrod and I’m between a Rocket III roadster and a R18 Classic but since I mostly ride in the city, I’d prefer water cooling.
Morning. Sorry for the slow reply. Personally for me it’s fine. It is a little harder on the new one. And has less of a “floaty” feel. But I like the slightly more planted feel when riding, although I do have it still on a softer setting. 100% feels more as one with the road on the new model. If that makes sense.
hi, i have seen few reviews where it is explain the hot air from the engine almost burn your legs, does it probably not happening in UK, how about tropical countries ! is it so poor the heat spreading appears ?
I think you maybe right. As a rule I ride between 10-20 degrees. I’ve probably ridden in 25-30 degrees twice in a year. When moving no issues at all. When it traffic can get a little warm yes. So in 35+ I can imagine it’s crazy. I always wear full protection too. But if I was in somewhere tropical heat I guess that may change my mind. Lol
Абсолютно нет. Рокет горяч но не обжигает. Ты будешь страдать от этого в XVS1900 или indian Chieftain, да. Рокет имеет жидкостное охлаждение и это хорошо.
I have a 2020 GT now, my issue is they made everything so f#$king annoying to replace. Fitting a new air filter was a right pain in the ass, as it's located between the tank and the block and the US version has a battery kill switch blocking you from easily unhooking what you have to unhook. Some of the internal parts are rather low quality as I've learned from my experiences wrenching around on the bike and I'm slowly having to replace them with higher quality parts. The hoses, some of the bolts, etc so far.
That’s a fair comment. Tbh I’ve gone past the days of playing around with them now, I find it much less painful to take the bike to Triumph let them did about for the day, and I’ll take out one of the demos for the day and just waist some fuel, come back and all done 🙏
Hi loved the video on the gt many thanks but where did you get yours remapped ? have you had the dpf deleted? and I thought they are 221 bhp am i wrong I’ve only had mine a fortnight it’s the chrome edition only done 365 miles so far thanks in advance for your answers oh and where did you get your higher screen from many thanks ride safe and merry Christmas nick👍
Hi,I have watched just about all the video's there is as I wait on my new GT arriving and found yours to be amongst the most helpful,I test rode an R and felt a GT would be easier to live with although I still haven't riden one,I am worried how I will get on with forward controls I am 6'2",just going to suck it and see, also thinking having it de-restricted,what we're your thoughts on how that might affect the warranty, again thanks for the helpful video's. Andy.
Hi Andy thank you for your kind words, and nice to know they help 🙏 Yeah great question on the forward pegs, for me they put a slight (only slight) pull on lower back. But I did get use to it after a few weeks! But after fitting the mid pegs! AMAZING, transformed the bike 🙏 As for the warranty, hhhmmmmmmmm Honestly didn’t think about it, I’m not really that sort of person (it’s a blessing & a curse 🫣) and it’s only the throttle mapping, no extras or bolt on parts so it may not effect it 🤞 What I can tell you is it’s now savagely insane if that was even possible, the sound had changed, it sounds like a jet now, 30 extra bhp and better on fuel ⛽️ Also the quick shifter is a must too 👌
Hi. I can tell you what to buy,And I don’t know if that’s a good price for one on the US 🇺🇸 what I can say is they are awesome bikes and I loved mine and would have another one if I could. I’d defo go a ride it and see how it feels.
Great question 🙋 Google it 🤣. I don’t think there is much difference in the bike, a few little tweaks here and there but as a rule very similar, as opposed the a 2015 and 2020 for example
Know exactly how you feel on the roadster its just a bike that demands respect, The size and stature of the bike is just great, very comfy and like you said you sit into the bike not on top of it. Still love the new rocket though.
I bought a 2015 roadster,,,,,,gotta say I love it,,,,,,,should of bought that in the first place instead of the stupid Indian chieftain dark horse with its problems
As the main rider, I barely felt her on the back, whether it's a round town or on open roads, the bike is so well planned and has so much power, didn't really know she was there, even when stopping at lights etc.... We swapped onto my mate's Tiger and after about 4 minutes I asked to swop back, night and day better. AS for her on the back, with the sissy bar, SO much better, neither of us worried she was going to get sucked off the back, she could relax, over 150 miles she got a little numb as the cushion is still not the best. Hope this helps, happy riding..
I have the R3 Touring and the new Chrome R, new one is smooth power and a lot lighter. The new R3 doesn't have the presence of the Touring though and If I park it next to a friends TFC it's the Touring folk come look at. Both great bikes but very different/not the same although i'd have done a R3T comparison with the new GT not the older R. Bring on the Alps next year on the new R :)

In my humble opinion I think the earlier model looks way better. Great video, Cheers 🍺🍺🍺🇳🇿
Fair enough! And that’s why bikes are so great, so may personal choices and feels. Thanks for the comment. Ride safe.
I fell in love with a 2011 roadster, she's amazing. Haven't tried the new one yet.
Just watched your R/GT review and now this one. Great job. Ordered my GT with mid pegs and quick shifter, and picking it up end of Sep. Mad Max villan - LOVE that... and yeah the raw power is still a cool feeling.
@ dude , im as ugly as inmortal joe / dementus , pick one , the old just fits 🤣, have a nice one
Love my Rocket Roadster! For a tall guy (I'm 6'2" w/ 34" inseam) it's the best bike out there. Although the GT's certainly are sexy.
100%
Nice video. Thanks! I have a 2020 R purchased new 3 years ago. I never even considered purchasing the 2300cc for a very simple reason. The old rocket is a gigantic to the point of intimidating me. The bike is still stunning and so much fun to ride. You just need a little more room 😅
Thank you 🙏 100% agree. Both absolutely machines, stunning in every way, but the new one just does it better 🫶
The rocket event sounds amazing 🙏
2015 is that old, very high on price here in Norway, maybe i can get a 2005-08 model
Yes tbh, I believe the "older models" are nearly all the same, so if you can find a 2005-08 model in good condition I'm sure your find a bargin

The euro5 nonsense can be mitigated a bit with an ECU tune. A decent tune opens the bike up to ~20 more hp/tq.
Yep. We got 30 extra HP
This is a great video and I really appreciate you going into depth about both generations of this amazing motorcycle. I own a 2009 Rocket 3 Classic and the power is amazing. The brakes are outstanding. You don't see any for sale anywhere in the country, and there's a reason for that.😌👍👍
Thank. you, ride safe buddy. Amazing bikes.
Where did you get the side mounted number plate assembly from ?
Great review and I pick my Storm R up next week 😊
Thank you. If I’m honest it was in the bike when I brought it. But you can get them on eBay just by searching rocket side Mounted plate.
I have had my roadster 2014 since April 2015 it has been a great bike. The suspension is sport not suited for distance you can do it but your back will feel it later. I would like for you to test ride a Harley Davidson Road King Special please.
To be honest I’ve never ride a Harley but I do keep looking! 👀 may have to go test one soon, unless your offering me yours? 👍
I would, but I live in America. Thanks anyway.
Can you tell me who done the tune on your new bike and are the figures you gave at the wheel? Cheers

Hi, thank you. I"m curious about the power - noticeable?
How does the rear suspension compared in terms of jarring/harshness going over bumps? Pardon me if I missed that in your video.

comparing roadster with gt is like comparing weightlifter and boxer.
Oh yes to completely different bikes, love them both for different reasons
On looks alone it has to be the original for me. I really don't find the face-lift R3 attractive at all.
That’s fair enough
2015 Rocket 3 Roadster looks amazing!! the GT looks so dull
That’s what’s great about bikes.
There so personal choice, I love both but for different reasons.
The GT is a much better ride though.
Thank you for this review. Now I know my target
Cheers

Yeah - amazing bikes and absolutely loved mine.
@HastingsKickboxingAcademy The newer ones do have better suspension though, I had to upgrade mine lol.
lol. Yeah I hear that.
Downside, lack of fuel capacity on newer ons!

If you think the Roadster is hard to push, try a Touring 😝😝
If you think the touring is hard to push, try pushing a kawasaki vn2000 lol
LOL
I sold my Suzuki 2007 C109R because it became too heavy for me to push around. Great bike and bulletproof motor though.
Fix "Roaster" in the title 🤦♂️
Good spot, after 11 months and 11K views, someone’s picked that up. Well done sir 🎉
