Noddy Holder has one of the best voices in rock and roll!
Totally agree!!!! Great & Powerful voice.
Slade was a super fun '70's band who should have been a lot bigger than they were. Lots of great power pop songs like this.
In the UK they were absolutely massive in the mid 70s- bigger than pretty much anything else around. Outside of Europe though they never really cracked it
@@simontomlinson6484 some of their songs went on to be huge cover songs for others
@@simontomlinson6484 Actually it was the first half of the 70s, 75 is when they stopped doing interesting things, although there is always talk about them being an underrated band, I thought it doesn't make much sense for a band that was the most successful in the UK and in 2 years They went on to not even be able to enter the top 50 with their albums, they really shouldn't be that good if in 2 years all their fans had already stopped listening to them.
@@OnlyGoodMusic_ 1975 was their pinnacle. They had a film (Slade in Flame) but then made the catastrophic mistake of moving to the USA for crack the lucrative US market. By the time they came back....the music scene had completely changed and punk arrived. Old rockers were passe. It took a famous set at Reading in 1980 before they got their 2nd wind. As for two years, they had hits from 1970-1976. Do some research on just how many bands cite Slade as influencing them (Pistols, Nirvana, Kiss, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Poison, The Clash...the list goes on).
Oasis, Cheap Trick, look up where they got their name from .@simontomlinson6484
THIS is the band that wrote ....Quiet Riot's "Cum on feel the Noise" and "Mama We're all Crazy Now"....This song, "My oh My" and many more...You just discovered one of the ultimate drink--a--long, sing--along, anthem bands ever. Big fat hooks, grooves and melodies that put you in a great mood all day. Love this band. Oddly if it wasn't for Quiet Riot's covers, many would have never heard of them. HUGELY under rated band. Cheers!
They should've been huge in America, and would have been, if they'd gotten the proper promotion: for some insane reason, radio stations & others thought they were "too English" for us - the same people who went crazy for countless other English bands...
Love Noddy Holder: the greatest air raid siren in rock.
@@hookstomper7322 I just found out they formed in 1964 and are all still alive!!1 Although only one of them still uses the Slade name."Creative difference's"and such. They certainly left their mark.
@@algrundau9441 Yes they did. Too bad that Noddy had had enough, but all things have to end sometime.
@@hookstomper7322 That's true, but their music will live on. Their tunes are far too catchy to ever be totally forgotten.......just ask Quiet Riot.
They also recorded and released those songs themselves and I take it you mean noone in the USA would have heard of them. They are a UK band, huge in the UK and Europe, with their tunes still played, especially the Xmas song every year. Hardly anyone knows who Quiet Riot are here and the singers attempt at Noddy's vocals is just embarrassing
No idea why Slade wasn't on top of the musical world, nobody had more fun on stage than those guys.
On top in the UK< Australia and parts of Europe, just never cracked it in the USA. I think Slade and all the bands of that early-mid 1970s era were too soon for the USA: T.Rex, Sweet, Suzi Quatro, Bowie's glam rock period. Kiss made it huge in the USA of course, but they came a little after that first wave of UK Glam Rock.
... nobody had more fun on stage... watch the live version of Dr. Hook "Cover Of The Rolling Stone"! Okay, in that condition they would have had fun alone in a dark basement... not the perfect example.
I love this song! Such a sing-a-long!
They went off to break America, gave up and returned to the UK. In the meantime the music scene in the UK had moved on and they never regained the momentum they had had there.
Slade is a four-piece glam rock and hard rock band from Wolverhampton, England, formed in 1966. With 17 top twenty hits, six number 1s, three number 2s and two number 3s, they were one of the most successful British bands of the 1970s.
Great song, great band. They were part of the "Glam Rock" movement that came out of England in the late sixties, early seventies. And reemerged in the early eighties with this song. They've got a lot of other stuff you'd like too. Another from this album "My Oh My" and older stuff "Cum On Feel the Noize" and "Mama Weer All Crazee Now", yet thats the way they were spelled.
One of my favorites is Take Me Bak 'Ome. The video where the girls are wearing clothes that match the bands shows how really serious they took themselves!
All Great Songs!! 😁💯👍🔥🎸❤️
Wolves aye we...
The was the shorter version of this song..Still luv it.
Far, Far Away is my favourite Slade song. I once read that Noddy Holder said that Far, Far Away was his favourite Slade song.
"How Does It Feel" by Slade is one of the greatest songs ever written.
This is not my favorite Slade song but it is certainly one of their best.
The most underated song by any band ever. A pure masterpiece.
Man, Lex gets it straight away cause 80s music was all about feel good. Brad wants to analyse how many vowels are in the whole song & then forget that it's just damn good. He's moving to it which shows it's getting to him but then wants to pull the whole mood down. He's reaction even bought my mood down & Lex's mood after a bright start. Lighten up man.
Slade were huge in the early/mid-70s in the UK but had declined in popularity by the end of the decade. In 1980 Ozzy Osbourne pulled out of the Reading Festival and Slade were brought in as last minute replacements. Despite thinking it might be a farewell performance, the band stole the show and enjoyed a new wave of success in the early 80s. Run Runaway was part of that.
I was there, remember it well ... I seem to remember a massive can fight going on while they were playing... all good fun
A man who knows his facts! Maybe everybody should look up the It' Slade-documentary on RUclips 👌🤘❤
that was the best weekend i have ever had and slade made the weekend and all the crowd loved them although a last minute replacement ,then saw them a reading top rank and krokus who backing them were also there that weekend the can fight started because they put the band third world on and started from there and lasted all weekend good times
Slade literally nearly killed me. Went to see them at The Free Trade Hall in Manchester in 1972 and it was the loudest gig I've ever been to. After the concert walked out straight into the path of a double decker bus which I didn't hear luckily my mate pulled me out of the way. Great gig though :)
Possibly best concert story ever lol
Ahhh... nothing like a good concert story! Glad you enjoyed the show and got a good story to tell in 2022!
Brad, every song doesn't have to be "about" something!! It's rock and Roll!!
Just having fun is a lost art I am thinking. NO harm in trying to figure it out, but as you say, sometimes it's just having a good time.
Brad's job: break down the lyrics because he's still working on his rhythm. Lex's job: teach Brad some rhythm while he tries to explain lyrics that she's already figured out
But I like it,like it,yes I do!!!🤣🤣
Because you get to choose his way in life?
They were probably singing about running away from the music companies, because they had destroyed their sound.
Slade the most underrated rock band ever and noddy holder has the best rock voice ever
Except for Robert Plant.
Underrated? 12 top 5 singles (including 5 number 1s) and several top 10 albums.
yes all that but you never hear there songs on the radio or tv or them been talk about there are bands that have done less and always talked about all the time slade were one of the best rock bands ever and noddy holder has the best rock voice ever
The bassist in Slade was originally a violinist in the band during their Skinhead faze. Very talented group. They still have a huge following ever since the late 60's! They are also THE band that inspired KISS!
One of the all time great sing-along bar songs that sorta defies analysis.."all things to everyone". Same with the original music video which is a hilarious 80s classic in its own right.
I love watching Lex just sit back an enjoy the music, while Brad tries really really hard to comprehend the lyrics of a nonsense song. But then that's a lot of their videos!
Yeah. Lex gets it, Brad doesn't.
It might stem from his hip-hop background. Hip-Hop is pretty much always saying something, good or bad.
One of the greatest bands ever that most never heard of. They're a late 60'/early 70's band. Best songs from back then. This song is from the 80's.
It's also worth noting that in 2003 they had to sack their bass player Dave Glover because he got engaged to imprisoned serial killer Rosemary West.
Also worth noting that wasn’t Slade it was Dave & Dons band Slade 2 who were utter shite
I only knew of them because of Quiet Riot. =)
I didn't expect anyone would ever react to this great song that no one seems to remember.
Slade wrote some seriously good songs "how does it feel" ..."cuz I luv you" ...just to name a couple ...I think the way they dressed and acted made it hard to take them seriously sometimes ...and Noddy Holder had an amazing voice !!
They have a great Christmas song, "Merry Xmas Everybody." It's used in so many shows and movies in the UK.
Was also the first rock & roll Xmas song written. Before War is over by Lennon.
It makes the writers (singer Noddy Holder & the bass player Jim Lea) half a million pounds every Christmas.
Wow, hadn't heard this in years. Brad, the song follows the style of a drinking song. A quick one or two line body and an even quicker chorus. It's not about anything, but the form and style is a traditional one in that it's fun to sing and anyone can add their own verse, then everyone sings the chorus.
Thank you for choosing this song! I haven't heard it in years and forgot how much I liked it. It is audible happiness in a kilt.
Born in 66 , a kid in the 70's Slade were part of my childhood, just brilliant.
One of the most beautiful rock ballads ever made was by Slade: "And the Last Waltz (C'est La Vie)".
one of the most covered bands ever. almost every song theyve made has been covered at some point
if your familiar with quiet riots - cmon feel the noize...well this band did it first.... along with many others... most famous i guess would be their christmas hit ...merry christmas everybody. This song came late in their career as their frontman Noddy Holder left, they carried on for many years after.
Quiet Riot's 2 biggest hits were both Slade songs. It's like how Manfred Mann's 2 biggest hits of the '70s were both Bruce Springsteen songs.
Awww, damn single version... the intro build-up is awesome.
Brad likes drums, it'd be worth checking out the full 5-minute version.
If you haven't already, try their ballad "My Oh My" next.
YUP!!!....OR....Cum On Feel The Noise....Mama We 're All Crazy Now...BOTH Slade and Quiet Riot version's. These guys were awesome for the party atmosphere anthem. Always felt like I was going to a football game with a beer in hand after a good Slade song.
@@algrundau9441 funny thing about the quiet riot version of cum on feel the noise. the band didn't wanna record the damn song so they tried savaging the recording of the song so it won't end up on the album and it backfired.
Believe or not. They hit #1 with ' my oh my' same album
The US was a decade plus late catching up to them-they were huge here in the UK from 1971-1975.
Thank YOU !!! This was one of my favorite bands that never got the recognition that they deserved
Finally, finally getting round to Slade, one of the greatest rock and roll bands of ever. They are one of my all time favourite bands. Slade Forever! The lead singer, Noddy Holder is another of the coolest people to ever hit music. Thanx for this one, You have to do Far, Far Away.
When I was young (a long time ago) Slade were considered the bad boys, while The Sweet were the cute guys.
I recall an interview with Nikki Sixx where he named checked those two bands as the music he liked growing up. I had never heard of either and this is the first song by either band that I have heard but if Slade is this much fun I'll look into them.
😆 you two crack up all the time. Love you both.
Brad…I was born in’68…so I grew up on 70’s and 80’s music. Here’s a great tip anytime you listen to songs of the 80’s…half of them made no sense. Most times the artists say it was intentional. So, if first you don’t get it…. Just turn off your thinking cap and enjoy the ride🤙🏾🎼
Lexi….You are just like I am with music…. Just find the one that make my spirit move…and I like it. Lyrics don’t have to make ONE BIT OF SENSE😆😂.
Great to come across your channel with the songs of my youth in your reactions.
Take care and hope all will always be well with you two.
Much Aloha🤙🏾🎼🎶🎵🫶🏽💕
They did the original version of "Mama Weer All Crazee Now," which is great, but I think my favorite song by them is "Gudbuy T'Jane."
First record I ever bought back in '73.
Never ever thought I'd see anyone react to this. I'm 48. This song got me into rock and roll. Thanks Noddy.
*POWER MORNING SONG!*
If you wish to absolutely OWN the hour of 7am in your commute, etc., this is absolutely the crucial song. I knew this when this song came out, and it's a proven performer!
Slade rules check their 70s track they rocks🎸🎸🎸❤❤❤🌞
This is Noddy’s favorite song he ever wrote. Love this band soooooo much!
Omg I LOVE this song! Takes me back to the early 80's. My parents probably knew the lyrics! Ahhh, the "lighter" side of my playlist back then...
Well done, digging up a long-forgotten classic. They had a bunch of hits in their native UK but they never really broke over here. The only song that I could compare to this one would be that Proclaimers tune, "500 Miles." Just a monster wave of a hit for a VERY brief time with a little taste of Scotland.
Very similar to Big Country's in a Big Country. Slade did tour the USA, but its a bit place so litterally lost in the pond, getting back to the UK and punk had come in and they were yesterdays band. This was the re-invention for a few more years before Noddy went to acting. Jim I think went to music production.
Momma Weer all crazee now!
Wow. Haven't heard this song in like... 20+ years. Probably longer.
Skweeze Me Pleeze Me (misspelling titles was one of their things), My Oh My, Mama We're All Crazy Now, and for a different side to them Everyday.
Slade are a British rock band formed in Wolverhampton in 1966. They rose to prominence during the glam rock era in the early 1970s,[1] achieving 17 consecutive top 20 hits and six number ones on the UK Singles Chart. The British Hit Singles & Albums names them the most successful British group of the 1970s based on sales of singles. They were the first act to have three singles enter the charts at number one; all six of the band's chart-toppers were penned by Noddy Holder and Jim Lea. As of 2006, total UK sales stand at 6,520,171, and their best-selling single, "Merry Xmas Everybody", has sold in excess of one million copies.[2] According to the 1999 BBC documentary It's Slade, the band have sold over 50 million records worldwide.[3]
Need to check out SWEET! One of my old growing up Favs! Probably one of the first Glam bands! They did calypso music as well different but amazing music and vocals. Start out with Little Whilly!
They did...
ruclips.net/video/LnCCHkjiEbk/видео.html
Thank you for listening to these guys. Noddy Holder (lead singer) was considered to replace Bon Scott in AC/DC but he turned it down. Such a fun band that didn’t get their true spotlight.
So glad you choose Slade one of favorite bands as a teenager. You should look up their songs that Twisted Sister had cover hits with.
Their videos are fun to watch, too. They always look like they're having a lot of fun.
The bass guitar used in the video they put out for this song belongs to a fellow bandmate of mine who lives here in town. Fully documented and still plays great!
Slade "Cum On Feel the Noize" ... literally the sound system was so loud, you can feel it in your chest :)
Slade was such a fun and influential band! I had to mess with ya on this one. I sent the Stream Elements because we used to say if Sade is pronounced Shar-Day then Slade must be pronounced Slar-Day. lol It also refers coincidentally to Dennis Leary's bit about pronouncing Sade. I'm off to get a root canal and hopefully chillin' with Y'all later, Take care!
First heard this tune way back. It was in the movie Arsenic and Old lace from 1944. No lyrics just the music.
I agree with Lex. This kind of feels like "Whisky in the Jar", something with roots in folk songs from the celtic regions.
If you've got a crush, don't eat an octopus. My favorite misheard lyric.
Omg guys, I've been checking out your channel for a while but now you're really playing the music I grew up with. I feel old. Btw Lex, I love you!
best live band of the 70s early 80,s by a mile sadly never to be repeated
I got to see Slade in concert back in the 80s at a Monsters of Rock festival in the UK.
Slade were one of a few great Glam Rock band of the early to mid 70's. They had a successive number of No.1 hits during that time, and until '76 were unstoppable. This particular song was part of the revival in the early 80's, (1983-84), which also included, 'My Oh My.' Songs from the 70's include, 'Coz I Luv You', 'Take Me Bak 'Ome', 'Gudbye T' Jane', 'Look Wot You Dun.' The spellings of which were done deliberately to reflect their regional Brummie accent. 'Get Down And Get With It', being their first major hit.
This right here! This is one reason I watch reaction channels. I had COMPLETELY forgotten about this song and it was huge!!
That was the mighty Slade! They were the biggest selling British group in England in the 70’s. They were also the most raucous.
This always reminds me of the Wizard of Oz "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead."
Nodded Holder was a very underrated vocalist. "My OH My" was a great power ballad.
Slade are amazing! I may be dating myself but this was my jam in high-school. They have always been under the radar. Those are the best bands.
You know who does an awesome cover of this? Great Big Sea
Great songs and great music great live band
I loved Slade. I first heard them around '73/'74. I was 11 or 12. Loved "Gudbye T Jane".
Hey Slade cool
Slade got a raw deal with other bands capitalizing off their songs.
Mama were all crazee now
Cum on feel the noise
The original song was sung by Del Shannon in 1961. When I was 14 , I stole a boat from the local lake where I lived . And ran away with my girl friend at the time , With the cops and army looking for us. We headed up the lake then set the boat adrift ,and then went into the mountains . She got sick go we came back after a short time. The song RUNAWAY always takes me back to that time.
I always thought "run, run away" was a refrain from a traditional Scottish song, but I can't find any trace of it on the internet.
Cant stop watching Lex bobbing hear head with that huge legit smile!
Slade were massive in the UK in the early 1970's. They were essentially the kings of glam rock.
This song always makes me happy 😀
Finally my favorit band since 74
Lol. Great Band!! Many amazing songs I still have some of their old albums Awesome Music!!
Remember hearing this song on the AM Hits station in the late 70s early 80s before FM took off in MD/DC area. Atlanta Rhythm Section Homesick was another lost classic.
Yes!!!! Slade had such a huge influence on all of the rock that followed.
They also did probably the best Christmas song ever. It`s not Christmas until Noddy Holder screams IT`S CHRISTMAS!!!!!!
I was just listening to this song literally 30 minutes ago and now here y'all are reacting to it. Love you guys.
This song sounds amazing in the car and set on loud.
This was Slade's comeback hit in 1984, Slade are mostly associated with the "Glam Rock" movement of the early to mid-1970's.
One of my favorite all time songs.. thanks once again for your reactions
Always loved that song. Thanks for reminding me of it.
Budgie, “Breaking All the House Rules”
Spade was one of those really underrated bands. Super talented, super fun!!
This was their 80s comeback hit. they were never huge in the US, but had loads of huge hits in the UK (6 Number 1's, I think) in the 70s. Check out "Coz I Love You", "Gub'buy to Jane", "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" and "Cum on Feel the Noize" (which was a hit for Quiet Riot in the 80s)
My mother was an English immigrant to Canada,
My first cousin Susan was the first of my English family to Visit us in Canada.
She brought presents from England for us.
My present was Slade Alive.
I bought every Slade Album put out.
Often times having to import them into Canada paying a fortune for them.
Slade did a Canadian tour off the success of Good By T Jane. A single that charted in Canada.
Best live band I've ever seen.
I've seen hundreds of bands live.
FYI AC/DC considered Noddy Holder as a replacement for Bon Scott.
Another nugget Slade beats the Beatles for more number one hits in the U.K.
SLADE the best band too see live in a pub .
Be safe
Don't Hate
In England they were the most succesful band of the 70's with six number 1's
Slade's best -
"Darling be home soon".
This was the first album that I ever bought ❤️ My oh my is another great song off this album.
Lex's Celtic side made the connection. This a rock version of an ancient Celtic Hymn. You should hear the Highland Pipes and Drum Corp do their version.
You can take the boy out of Wolverhampton, but you can't take Wolverhampton out of the boy.
Now you've opened the box!! If you want two amazing ballads; Everyday and It's partner song She Did It To Me. They had an amazing sequence of British number 1s, 2s and top 30 hits in the 70s and early 80s.
Fact:
After Bon Scott of AC/DC died the first one they called to replace him was Noddy Holder (Slade-frontman). He turned them down because he couldn't leave his own band in the cold.
This was one of those songs you just had to crank up and everyone, in the car, sang to it as you cruised Main St.
Slade had many songs covered thru the years. They were a staple in rock n roll for decades.
The best glam rock band ever you have to listen to there early 70s stuff good bye to Jane my friend stan and coz I luv you
Another under rated band over looked by most.
Funny that you two would decide to check them out because Slide is so obscure.
Perhaps in the USA but in the UK, Slade is a household name because of their evergreen song, Merry Xmas everyone which is played endlessly every Christmas season. They were also massive in the UK in the early 70's and had a huge run of chart topping singles and albums.
Um no… they were huge in their time!
Have always LOVED this song! 🔥🔥🔥
I won't let it appen again is my favorite Slade song.
In case this hasn't already been said: After Bon Scott died, Angus Young asked Noddy to take over as the vocalist for AC/DC. Noddy said no because he was committed to Slade, and Brian Johnson was eventually recruited. I love imaging the world with Noddy singing Hell's Bells!
This just made my day!
