i’ve been using both of these and love them both they are great drills i use the dcf850 when i need a short impact, the 860 when i need power and i use my metabo hpt triple hammer when i need control mostly for metal
I have the 840 and definitely like it, but i want to know if the speed selectors on the 850 are beneficial for precision control on building things like cabinets or shelving. Would you take the 850 ove the 840 on something like this? Ive never used an impact with a selector switch on it.
Selector switches are not important to me. The trigger has a speed controller in it! The 850 is outstanding for its power and compact size. If you have the 840 already I would not get the 850 unless the size of the 840 is an issue for you. Hope this helps!
My ears say the 870. Sacrifice a little speed to save my hearing. My neighbor thinks all construction works have loud mouth wives, always yelling at their husbands. Had to correct her by saying that's the only way they can get heard. Damaged hearing ever since the invention of the cordless impact driver.
@freedomconstruction I'd pack a installation driver and a quiet impact for tougher materials. And a rotary hammer for concrete. Should handle anything I come across.

The 845 is much more precise while being very similar to the 840 basically the same design

Both are great tools.
They are!
Will it be enough to beat m18? Testing coming soon!

Been using both daily, cant say i prefer one over the other. The new one has more pep but you cant beat the compact 850!

Try the same test in 3 months after the new model has some wear and tear
I have a brand new 850 I was going to use but I just grabbed the beat one. They are both the same speed
If it takes a fraction of a second to finish they're the same.
It’s much more noticeable in person
