  • Walking through #Stratford Square Mall in #Bloomingdale, Illinois. The mall, which opened in 1981, was once a hot spot for people in the 80s and 90s. The past decade or so has brought hard times on the mall, and now with the Coronavirus pandemic, most of the mall is empty. It is pretty eerie walking around the quiet, empty mall with few businesses still operating. Most anchor stores including Sears, Carson's, and Macy's are gone.
I enjoyed this place as a young kid with my family when the mall was busy and it had the big waterfall and later cannon fountains in the middle area by the food court. It is sad to see this place slowly deteriorate over the years.

Closing Round one and now the express could just be the nail in the coffin.stratford squares decline started with the closure of JCPenney in 2014.and then with the closure of Arby’s and Abercrombie and Fitch.then etc.etc.at one time I believe the plan was 60% entertainment and 40% retail.the closure of 25 west brewery and Harley Davidson didn’t help matters.maybe it’s time to try something new.demall this mall.save what you could in the kohl’s wing and the area around it whatever you can .any of the remaining tenants.please take a look at the ghost of the former gantos in the upper former Carsons wing.

@@markmatuga2595 agreed with everything you said. It also doesn’t help that most people will go to Woodfield. I think what they can do is observe what Fox Valley in Aurora is doing and making it more residential by building condos.

Here’s something I will let you know about.Sears will soon be left with one last store at Woodfield Mall in Schumburg Illinois.the location in Chicago Ridge Mall was announced yesterday.at one time Sears had over 3,500 stores in 50 states and Puerto Rico but less than 30 will soon be left.If you had a Sears in your mall this was once the golden ticket for success for that particular mall.

Wow! That mall looks about barely on life support. I went there a few times when it first opened when I lived in Thornton,IL. But we mainly went to Woodfield mall cause my aunt and uncle lived up the road from Woodfield on Bayside dr. In Hanover Park.

I live in east tx now and when we go to DFW there are several malls that are on life support...but the ones that are doing well are REALLY doing well. I wonder if you're mixed up a bit? I lived in Hanover (Hangover😉) as we called it. Lived off Barrington and Walnut. It took a good twenty minutes at least to get to Woodfield. Then of course as city started expanding. Longer each time.
