Thank you for posting this live video of Stratford Square Mall and got to talk to the locals who are reminiscing of their good times at this beautiful mall. One of the most beautiful, breathtaking, aesthetically pleasing mall I’ve ever seen. A phenomenal architectural gem!! It’s a shame that they’re planning to pay $30 million to demolish this iconic building. A building that officials feel that it’s an eyesore. Did they not remember when you walk through it in the inside, it’s an impressive work of art? An architectural masterpiece not seen inside buildings these days. It’s probably cheaper to repurpose the building. To revitalize it to serve the community better and not waste tax dollars to just destroy the building when it is still a functioning and well maintained building. It has minimal damage, there’s a leak that can be repaired. It’s still in good shape to repurpose for offices, museum, a library, event center, an amphitheater like place to hold concerts, plays. They can try attracting retail back, arcades, restaurants, gym, medical facilities. The center court with its beautiful pillars, skylights, and The food court is the perfect place for business and local government employees to gather and dine at. Why be so wasteful? Why do we give up once cherished icons and turned them to irrelevancy? We always seek something new & bigger and better, the latest and the greatest, the most state of the art, always replacing things that are still functional. We’re such a wasteful society. I’m sorry I’m going and on about this. This mall has had an emotional impact on me especially throughout the week after it’s closure. I just want to say thank you for posting this live video and not letting us forget about this mall. Also thank you for letting me vent.

I stumbled upon this dead mall about a month ago when my friend and I had taken a road trip to go to the first Jollibee that had opened within driving distance of us. It’s such a beautiful location with those ceiling structures it’s sad to see it go. The kids hand painted tile hallway (near food court) was really something to see, tiles painted around 1999-2002

Crazy to see this mall dad. I worked at A&F there for a few days back in 2006. It was packed!

This place opened during my freshman year in high school . We used to come here as my family preferred it to Woodfield Mall. The layout made more sense . Anyway i moved to Wisconsin my senior year and never made it back . I wish I would have at least once .

Great video!!! 🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️ I don't remember when I lived in Elgin, Illinois if I ever drove down this this mall to visit it. Since I'm in Rockford, Illinois I couldn't get to see this last days/day of this mall because of car problems and my husband's change of is schedule of him working 4 days of the week from 7:00pm to 7:00am but it's so sad to know another well known mall in my home state of Illinois is closing up just so sad. ☹️☹️☹️

Thanks for posting this. I walked through there a few weeks ago when I voted. It was ominous when Kohl’s shut off their exits to the mall. It will be interesting when they tear down the mall, but keep Kohl’s still standing, assuming Kohl’s doesn’t relocate.

I've watched a lot of these "dead mall" videos and realized that those huge multi-story malls I wished we had here in Evansville, IN when I was a kid are hard to keep standing once occupants vacate. So much building to take care of with repairs, not to mention energy to heat/cool when open. Our "dead mall" is small and has been mostly taken over by the Rescue Mission. Goodwill is moving into the vacated Sears anchor store. How many of the large multi-story malls in the US are thriving, besides the Mall of America, which is a tourist attraction?

It's gonna be sitting like Charlestowntone with no plan because of planning that they originally had they scrapped it

Loved working here for 11 years! Many store owners had each others back against shoplifters. It was an experience owning and running Cigar Emporium from Mother’s Day ‘04-‘15. My Dad, brother, and I miss having the store some times. Wish we could’ve gone back on the last day. :/
