My daughter worked at Gadzooks, Sunglass Hut (right outside of Von Maur) and PAC Sun. That mall rocked back in the day. I also remember when it was an open-air mall called Lindale Plaza. Nice video 👍🏼
Hi, you filmed one of my childhood malls. Lindale was owned by Simon Property Group prior to Kohan. I know the Maid-Rite closed in the last 2-4 years. Lindale had a Happy Joe's in the basement. Lindale never had a JCPenney - so Firestone might have had their own auto center.
Have to say the history is better on it than not. Not much ever got done with the double vacant anchors either. They closed within weeks of each other. Will be waiting patiently for the Chesterfield video.
Some context on the basements: The first basement used to be called Lindale Square. The corner restaurant was a Happy Joe's Pizza. The entire area used to be twice as large as it is now with stores on both the outer edges and in large central block. Around 2008-ish half of the areas was walled off and taken over by the Iowa Works employment agency. The second basement was called Lindale Lane and used to have a bed and mattress store (maybe a Big Sur Waterbeds?) where the La'James is. Military recruiters also used some of the rooms in that area for awhile. The big empty hallway outside of the former Sears was always just a big empty hallway, although there used to be a tiny travel agency just before the exterior doors.
The entrance to the basement looked like the entrance to like a department of motor vehicles entrance. It kind of looked a bit government-ish. I think the timing with the livestream might have gotten dinged a bit because of breaking news about Iran attacking Israel at about the same time. I think maybe adding a big hardware or grocery store anchor might help it a bit. Or perhaps a large apartment complex that ties directly into the mall protected from the weather.
Still love that old Lindale Younkers all these years later! This place really needs some new anchors though if it wants to have a fighting chance. But S9 will be Canada?! Are you thinking of doing Northern Ontario I know that would probably be the closest to you, but I'm super excited for you to see my homeland!

Hey thanks man! The first song in Lakeforest is a slowed down version of “Eyes without a face” by Billy Idol. And Regency is one mall I’m dying to see! Hopefully will get to make it down to FL at some point this summer..
😐 Everyone wins that Bahamas vacation. But what you win is a tiny roach infested motel which you need to pay "administrative fees" for. Lol. It's not a free vacation. It's an overpriced scam vacation
