  • This Sunday Rant deals with the AARP of all things. They are requesting the FMCSA require Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking. Yes. This will automatically apply the brakes when the truck senses a person. They are saying old people are being run down by trucks. People with walkers and on scooters. What? When is personal responsibility ever used? The automatic braking on the trucks now doesn't even work right. Trucks will get so complicated they will be unaffordable. Ridiculous.

It's almost as if what they really want, is for there to be no trucks on the road at all

The USA must be destroyed to usher in the New world order. Everything being done is on purpose including the endless fires and weather control.

All these obnoxious walkable cities people have no idea how rail absolutely destroys city life and how ugly freight rail is. Probably because they don't live near train yards because trucks exist.

Yes, the "Sissification of America" extends to the Senior population, too.
I say their walker should come with a mandatory dose of Ex-Lax- that would get them moving !!

I noticed that AARP did not suggest that they would pay for the retro fitting of all of these trucks or for the additional cost that it would add to new truck purchases. I noticed these lobbying groups have a lot of great ideas as long as they don't have to pay for them

As a business owner I received a letter on this subject many months ago and it solicited my feedback. Needless to say, I gave them an eye full to read. Like you Mark I believe this is some of the dumbest shit I've ever heard. A driver will not be able to drive a truck in any metropolitan setting to say nothing of downtown areas due to that system engaging and locking up the brakes. I will fight proposals like these for the betterment of the industry as a whole. Just a very stupid proposal being pushed by idiots.

I learned a long time ago that these trucking agencies' special interest groups are going to do whatever they want as long as they have the money to push it through.
Cover it up if you're a company driver or disconnect it if you're an owner operator and go on about your day.
You can't fight billions of dollars you just got to work around it and go on about your day and retire as soon as you can so you don't have to deal with any of it on any level.

Adding the Foreign Carriers and drivers to the equation also gives them a bigger gene pool to work with.
They actually don’t need the experienced Professional American truck drivers anymore. Yellow YRC Freight, Max Fuller/USXPRESS, JCT/JOHN CHRISTNER getting out of it should tell all of us something; at least the ones that are paying attention. I often wondered why these foreign companies like GP TRANSCO are just killing it…..$$$$

Being in my extreme upper 30s as you are Mark, did you happen to notice that AARP keeps lowering the subscription age? Just an observation. 😅

Another real life response and considered solutions to regulatory misconduct sir. This crap is promoted by special interest money who wants government/taxpayer money to design, build, test and then scrap these unnecessary "safety features".
Trucking safety ventures are a good way to solicit free govt. money and then put it in the spin.
    THANKS MARK!

Mark, are you even driving a truck anymore or are you working for WABASH there in Lafayette Indiana? And you do these short video clips on your lunch break? I saw US-52 to ur right with the pretty blue neon lights! I use to run through there at night all the time because I hate running I/65 north of US-52. It was always a Breeze during the night when delivering Bridgestone Tires 🛞 to WABASH 24hrs drop & hook!!!

AEB systems will cause an increase in rear-end collisions. The problems on the roads are mostly caused by stupid drivers. An aside to Mark. You can not cover the sensors. The truck will shut down and needs to go back to the dealer. I have driven trucks with the "wonderful" Doppler radar. The system can not be disabled. The truck will not run.
