The best part of Donkey Kong Country's sound for me was the very subtle sound effects. They didn't overshadow the music, they didn't overdo anything, they made it clear when you got any sort of item, while keeping the mood in tact. Brilliant game. 100/10.
I'm not sure how the sound effects are subtle. They're very distinct and noticeable; from getting bananas to barrels. The barrels breaking are a great example and completely drowned out the sound for a moment. You're meant to know it's the priority here. They're just the sound of the game though and fit.. Go listen to 1:24 and 2:00 and try and tell me those sound effects are subtle.
even after all these years, this track is unforgettable. listening back now with better headphones, hearing aids, and more appreciation for music, it's a masterpiece. thanks for posting this, dude!
@@jamesmbs1 I'm gonna agree, i only have the most basic cell phone for work and or emergency kind of calls. usually i just use it for checking the time and or alarms though, and overtime for work lol
Man I remember playing this when I was a kid. My dad bought a snes and he got donkey Kong. I was around like 4 at the time and I remember the soundtrack. From what I remember these songs were what I couldn't stop thinking of when I was younger. I never got to beat the game cause I was literally like 4 but I do remember my dad andy cousins playing this. Life was best back then because I got to see and play these revolutionary games. Nowadays I feel as if games have gotten less revolutionary and to be fair that would make sense as it's hard to be that original and revolutionary especially in this day and age. But I still long for those times even if my mind is less impressionable than before.
thank you so much for bringing back so many lost memories. i couldnt help but drop a few tears. I used to play this with my closest friends and family. they are no longer here but when i watch videos like this, theyre sitting right next to me...thank you again.
I used to sit and watch my brother play this game when we were very young. This was an awesome game and thanks to watching my brother, I beat the whole game! I miss it so much! But I always asked they have lungs so how can they breathe underwater for THAT long? My brother tells me it's just a game. Still! :)
Dang...I feel like you actually recorded me playing this level for the first time. This is almost exactly the way I'd play it back in the day. Thanks for the memories!
Bro 16 years ago.. boy oh boy.. now I’m married, been through the military, addicted to substances and trying to figure my way out by and what to do as an adult for the rest of my life. Oh boy.. do I miss the simple times this music brings back.. born in 94 🙌
My daughter is playing a roblox game that is using this music , my heart jumped ! Oh the memories, I’m going to have to buy all this stuff now to play because now I’m here showing my 9 and 6 year old the Donkey Kong game and they are amazed 🙂 thank you for this video 😉
I used to get high as fuck with this song, when i´m so high memories flow through me and i start to see my life best events, its a great experience cuz even without being high the song makes me feel same
It’s 2020 Friday the 16th of October I should be asleep but this song came into my mind The nostalgia it’s just like makes you think of how fast time flies I hope it gets recommended in the future even though The video is 13 years old
I love the music on the water stages. Even though they seem to have a sad tone. It does bring nostalgia. A lot of it. But I know it has a sad tone to it. And that is not just because of the nostalgia.
i feel bad for the kids of today. They won't really experience the legend that is Donkey Kong Country. More than a decade later I still remember playing, and beating, this game so, so, clearly. I remember cheering when I finally beat King K. Rool and being shocked when he got back up. This music always makes me happy, in a nostalgic sort of way.
I played DKC in 1994 for the first time in vacation, I brought my SNES with me to vacation to the ocean in summer.... me and friend were blown away! And we always dreamed of that music when we bathed in the ocean on that 1994 vacation. Great times! DKC rules, esp the first part! DKC2 and DKC3 are ok though.. :)
This level was almost impossible for me to play when I was a child. I always saw horrifying skeletal bunny heads in the stone sprites. For example at 2:35 the stones on the right upper side. Edit: Another variation of it at 2:38, donkey passing right through it. I know it was just a weird way to interprete it but it scared me A LOT
everything for me was simple and I was only 9 back then, the only season that was hard for me to play was the one that looks like polar lol, but I love this game, i dont know if its me and my nostalgia, but it doesnt compare to the games that people play these days.
I'm watching this at 12:30 at night in 2022 because my girlfriend just farted and it sounded like the "bwoo" noise when you charge while on the swordfish.
man, im from germany and the nostaliga is insane. i remember playing this at grandmas house while watching a beautiful sunset when i was like 7 years old. and i remember vacation on mallorca around the same time.. everything was so exciting. im 22 years old now and everything seems so boring. i kinda wish i could go back to the old times with the knowledge i have now. it would be insane. overall i had a bad childhood but i can remember few moments which have been really good. i kinda want to feel the excitement that i had back then. as i said before i was 7, im 22 (almost 23) now that means that i was closer to non-existence than to my current age back then. infact more than half as close. eventually i will die and be non-existent again just like 23 years ago. feels kinda weird to think about it :/
Lol I was really into psychology around your age. Take some LSD learn what existence means, then you will kinda just stop caring about it because you realize there is nothing you can do to change it, then just focus on going to work and paying you Bill's, and enjoying your free time.
oh that music. Classic gaming died with the snes and mega drive. Sadly young kids now days will never know what it was like and will probly never play games such as this.
this music is breathtaking. i'll picture myself dropkneeing or bodyboarding a 6-8 foot righthand barrel and do nothing but sit upright and ride it with the morning sunlight just breaking out through the clouds.
this music is so awesome and gives you some sad feeling, rare realy knew how to make hearttouching music who agree then thumb up for me who doesnt thumb down :D
This is the greatest music in a video game ever!
Haha I remember pausing the game and shouting at my mom to come listen to the music!
Wait until you reach Stickerbush Symphony.
and yes it's a bush, not a brush.
I swear it is I miss this type of games 😟
Bro it’s up there, not the greatest for me but damn good and I just discovered this today despite having rented this game ?.?
I agree n the next best would be something else from this game...or DKC2 or DKC3
The best part of Donkey Kong Country's sound for me was the very subtle sound effects. They didn't overshadow the music, they didn't overdo anything, they made it clear when you got any sort of item, while keeping the mood in tact.

Still my favourite platform adventurer 30 years on!
Who is here because of all the nostalgic videos on social media about the 80s/90s being the best time period... Ever?
I'm here because I got a VHS tape in the mail one day a long time ago. Anyone else get that too?
@@moose583I played the shit out of that tape
The music...wow...!! I miss the good old times
Mrs GuinèvereJulija same here :(
Me too
I crying right now. This took me to my teen years! It just hit me hard listening to this again. Those were simple times. 😭
even after all these years, this track is unforgettable. listening back now with better headphones, hearing aids, and more appreciation for music, it's a masterpiece. thanks for posting this, dude!
Even after all these years this soundtrack is still ingrained in my memory.
Sometimes on long swims in the pool I'll think about this song lol
Hawk Guy same for me lol ,i was swimming under water a few days ago and my mind was playing this wonderfull soundtrack... love it ..
I miss this so much it truly brings tears to my eyes.
I just sold all my Super Nintendo stuff. This game kept in the original box. Now I want to play it again and it's gone. Haunting music.
If you get a Switch all 3 original DK Country games are free to download 👍🍌🍌
ill never forget this amazing music
They brought back this soundtrack in Dkc tropical freeze.
They actually brought back david wise. the man who not only composed tho song but also composed the entire dkc2 soundtrack.
Jimmy Feliciano yeah and it sounds amazing 👌
And its on DKC returns
This is a reason why the 90s where the last great decade
Agreed...
defently 100 % true my child hood days were right in the right era too. bless your comments.
people were ruined by cell phones.
@@jamesmbs1 not by phones, but society just dumbing down people with politics and always turning everything religious

@theghostlyspirit6927 I can relate to this a lot. Love your comment G
Crazy. I used to vibe tf out to this music. Had to come and look for it and .......aaaaaaah soothed my broken soul. Where has the time gone. Gotdamnit
Ppl make fun of me bc i was born in 82 but at least i got to experience the 90s
Tommy Martin true i wish i was born in 80s
i doubt anyone would make fun of you for being born in the 80s
@Brian Shattuck Atleast I can play it on my switch to see what the 90s was like.
Literally no one has made fun of you for the year you were born.
damn i miss these days so much when this came out my sister and me played for hours this one and mario paint
I'm surprised DK and Diddy can stay underwater for that long.
This has to go down as one of the greatest video game levels in history just for the music and ambience alone
My mind can't fathom that this video was made 16 years ago but came out even longer ago than that. You're telling me this video was made in 2007?
27th of June, 2007, exactly 🙂
thank you so much for bringing back so many lost memories. i couldnt help but drop a few tears. I used to play this with my closest friends and family. they are no longer here but when i watch videos like this, theyre sitting right next to me...thank you again.

Pretty much on par with the water level music from the Sega Genesis game World of Illusion.
Life could be a dream....
Beautiful! This level design (music, fx, graphics and idea) is amazing despite what has happened in game design evolution on today's platforms.
beatiful music

This and dire dire docks has one of the best soundtracks for gaming, and its crazy to think that both of em were on nintendo and swimming levels
Oh the nostalgia! Such great memories playing this game.
Words cannot describe he feelings this song brings back to me. One of saddest and most beautiful songs ive ever heard. Dk rules!
Even though you won't find bananas in the sea, just kelp and sea moss.
Such smooth game play. It's relaxing to watch-especially with the music. Never understood ASMR, but this I get around.
This aged so well
Aquatic Level es muy buena, además la música es muy relajante porque haces que te tranquilice y olvides todos tus problemas.

GREAT OLD MEMORIES. MY FRIEND LOVES THIS GAME BUT DOESNT PLAY THEM. SHE JUST KNOWS ABOUT IT FROM ME AS IM AN ELDERLY GAMER.

Unforgettable music 2023
They don’t make games like this anymore. And that is saying something

The music in NES and SNES games was legendary.

Man...I remember playing this game back in 7th grade in 1997. So much memories 😊
I’m still playing this game in 2021!!!!

After 20 years, I just realized those rabbit skulls
Martin Steinberger I don’t see it...
I don't see it
David Wise pushing the limits of the SNES' audio hardware. Legend
I'm watching this at 12:30 at night in 2022 because my girlfriend just farted and it sounded like the "bwoo" noise when you charge while on the swordfish.

CHECK OUT THE SUBMERSE REMIX OF THIS SONG! Yes there's actually a remix of it, it's Garage/Dubstep sounding! Really good!

Listening to my friends band play this live right now 🔥
Got this game in '95 on my birthday I think, not sure.
Had a run of nostalgia and found this!
Jesus is waterlevel
oh that music. Classic gaming died with the snes and mega drive. Sadly young kids now days will never know what it was like and will probly never play games such as this.
Bro. You don’t have to get every goddamned banana
I remember playing this when the game first came out at Target and the graphics were completely amazing... ahhh memories.
still one of the best game themes ever produce, most def of the 16 bit era
Song makes me want to go to sleep...*sleeps*
Amazing music! Simply amazing!
I used to hate the water levels, but man did I ever love the music.
Wtf that was beautiful
Ahh nostalgia..this level was the moment i realised i would never allow myself get rid of this game
That music is just unreal 🥰🥰
The empty seabed in the background was always oddly relaxing to me. The music and general vibe certainly did their part towards that.
Can relate to this 100%
this music is breathtaking. i'll picture myself dropkneeing or bodyboarding a 6-8 foot righthand barrel and do nothing but sit upright and ride it with the morning sunlight just breaking out through the clouds.
MY MOM & I USED TO PLAY THIS ALL THE TIME BACK IN 94/95 I MISS THOSE TIMES SOOO MUCH SO SIMPLE SO PEACEFUL!
Turned on this music video while scuba diving had a fun time and good song.
LOL, as a kid, I always enjoyed their little dance they did after completing a level.
I love this level. Diddy is my favorite character. I prefer is him swimming.
One of the few games that has a GOOD water level. (No Sonic, no!!!!)
Thank you, that was magical
Maybe this is the first video of Aquatic Ambience on RUclips.
WOOW My Childhood comes back, great love to NINTENDO and SEGA
Some Random People: Water levels in video games are bad or annoying.

15 years ago oh my god.
I appreciate this gameplay. Using it in my new video. Willing to share profit if it should ever come down to that.
Childish gambino- eat your vegetables samples this level
Okay
wow this brings a tear to my eye when i hear this song.
it makes me miss all the donkey kong games for snes
I HAD ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!!
Nostalgia to the max!
I love the way you played through this level haha. You didn't do a speed run or anything you jsut enojyed the level and the music.
The music in this level is amazing
Só restou saudades...

This is so nostalgic
this music is so awesome and gives you some sad feeling, rare realy knew how to make hearttouching music
who agree then thumb up for me who doesnt thumb down :D
Best music in a video game in the history of our world
Agreed. . there's no doubt in my mind about what you just said.
somehow it sounds different here than on the individual youtube tracks
To think social media and youtube would come out 11 years after this
The most beautifully ambient game music.
nostalgia!!!!!!!!!!!
goodmemories-n-goodtimes
I Love This Song😍😍💙❤
I am the only one using this fantastic music to sleep 🧐
Me too :-)
1:22 - How'd Diddy turn blue?
To me it seemed random or Nintendo choose Donkey Kong in such a groundbreaking game. But holy shit did it work.
Que buena ambientacion dios mio, y yo que son fan del ambient y demas, no puedo entender como estuve sin saber de esta joyita.
