I have an F, FE, FM, FG, F3 F2 and F2as. The F2as is the best 35mm I have ever used, the most reliable, brightest view finder and toughest camera I have ever owned. My desert Island 35mm film camera.
I recently picked up a F2 Photomic body in black for $160 from a Japanese seller on Ebay. The camera is in excellent condition, especially for a black body: there is no significant brassing or scratches. The meter is fully functional, and the shutter seems to be good. I did have to replace the light seals and mirror bumper, but I expect that from a camera manufactured in 1974.
Love my silver F2. I usually use it with my Pre-AI 35mm f/1.4 or Pre-AI 50mm f/1.4. Would love to see the comparison with the F3. I’ve debated on whether I should invest in one or not.
I have been buying and selling to KEH for quite a few years now. Have gotten much better deals buying than selling. Their rating is very conservative and consistently impresses me. Typically I can buy today and my camera is here the next day as they are located only 100 miles from me.
I’m stoked to hear what you think of the F2. I’ve shot with mine quite a bit. It’s kind of a brick compared to my FM2n, but I think I prefer it anyway. I’m interested to see if you can get that DP-1 running right, because I’m pretty much done with metered prisms. Like I mentioned in the other video, I’ve had a two crap out on me and I can’t justify getting another. Also, I’ve always preferred the two-tone silver cameras. I think they have more style and are just a little more iconic.
Now that you made such a huge saving on that camera, buy yourself some pants. I see these for the price you named all the time in the last months. Seems price for gear is falling. No wonder with the prices for film skyrocketing. I guess more and more film enthusiast give up.
My F2 is 30 years younger than me and it will also outlive me. It is the perfect F model, fixed up some of the annoying things about the F. But, they are all based on the S which is based on the Leica. OMG. Nikon made a better Leica.
The only time I made money with my F2 was when I sold it back to camera shop I got it from. Did a lot of rock concert shoots and was too nervous it would get banged or crunched in the crowds, My two Pentax SP1000s did just fine...
@gilbertsandberg4736 Thanks, but I guess I phrased that wrong. Actually, there's a calibration adjustment on the photomic that's out of whack. I guess I'll spend the dollar at Butkus for the manual. Stay safe.Peace
I have both. The F2 and F have almost the exact same foot print. The major difference is between which prism head you have on either. The “F” heads are bulkier because they have to accommodate the battery. Looking at them side by side, the F2 is maybe a little bit fatter and my assumption is that is to accommodate the in-body electrical system.
Fantastic camera sir! I’m crazy about the couple dozen F2s I have. Do yourself a huge favor and send that F2 to Sover Wong in the UK. He’s by far the number one Nikon F2 guy in the world for CLAs, repairs and parts. I’ve had him refurbish 3 of mine and they are almost better than brand new.

Idea: Do a video comparing this Nikon to a Canon professional camera from the same period - probably an F1.
I love these, best mechanical camera ever made
Great camera! The functionality is so good. The feel is so strong. You can take on the universe. The lenses are widely available.

You can not expect them having low prices when they sell and to pay high prices when they buy.

I kind of regret selling my nikon F2 now. Great video as always!
How do you get back the counter to zero after few blank shots? thanks

My F2 will outlive me! Love that beast

also...f3 and above are electronic. f2 is fully mechanical like the f1, the viewfinder can be removed and a basic prism can be put on.
Idk if its a f1 or f2 for sale near me on facebook for $100 obo with a meter on it, wish i had the extra cash to pick it up 🙃

If that's a DP11 viewfinder, could you do a quick tutorial on synchronizing its speed dial to the camera's dial?
To sync the photomic to the camera: just turn the shutter dial until it clicks.

I was lucky enough to get mine in around 45$. love the camera
The F2 adds bulk compared to the F1? Is that so? I have several F2 but no F1, that is why I am asking.

Donate a F2 to a poor man🙏
I don't understand this idea of sending cameras to repair/CLA even if they work. If it works, use it.
Say "photomic" to rhyme with atomic, not photo-mik, imho🤣
I've missed the price
Twas 98 smackers
I bought mine as a bundle with a bunch of lenses off facebook for $300 lol
On Thursday
