Basically your goal is to capture his king in the past. If you "mate" normally he can run to the past to avoid the check. So you're playing the chess normally, except not against his present king but against his past kings and you have rules for how the pieces move into the past in order to take him. If he can't prevent you from taking one of his kings next move, you mate him.
I think this is actually a great visualization of 4d space; thinking of it like minecraft but its a bunch of minecraft worlds in a line that you can just walk through
I love how you just start speeding up your speaking and you finish those segments with "Pretty simple", like we even know a lick of what you just said.
this video cured me of all my existential dread, being faced by thoughts of timetravel and parralel universes to win a game of chess makes any worry seem small. thanks for enlightening me good sir
One tip I have for new players would be to avoid moving any kingside pawns when starting the game. As there are several scholar mate style traps that can play out in across time & space
You're right. I was confused about the stalemate rule because I had misremembered something from one of the puzzles. I've been thinking that the stalemate condition is checkmate this whole time. Thanks for pointing that out
Bro I used to watch your animations and play your games on scratch as a kid and now that we've both grown up i'm so impressed to see how far you've come
I've always seen people talking about this game and been baffled, but this is actually an excellent explainer. I definitely see why you'd need to play a couple of games to fully grasp it but I totally understand the basic mechanics after this. Nice work!
The easiest way to visualize it imo is to use the view where all the boards are standing up on end. It lets you easily visualize how pieces (best done with the bishop) can spend their movement not only on one board but also spread their movement across the multiple
And here I thought normal chess was confusing enough. Now you’re telling me there’s an even more confusing version of chess ( I do know how to play chess but I am definitely not good at it. I hold the title of being an egg at chess. Great video!)
I finally got around to watching this...and let's go, a new Hunted upload! Also, this still remains very complicated to me, but alas, maybe one day I'll try it and understand!
You know I always wondered what happened to you after you left scratch, now I know... Your teaching people how to play 5d Chess with multiverse time travel. that's fun.
I know this doesn’t relate to the video but I remember when I used to live your Scratch stuff. I can still remember a joke from a now deleted project. Nice to see you’re still doing stuff on here.
You fools, requiring a tutorial to understand a mere fraction of the unobservable universe, i've been traveling through space and time between the quantum realms since i was a baby. It's really quite simple
This video is really well thought out and put together well. Simply put, I love it. The style of the video and how you explain the game briefly without being overbearing is amazing, thank you for this spectacular video ❤ (for legal reasons, this is not ai generated I really think like this ^^)
As a chess player who knows of 5d chess, there are some tricks to beating the game that you forgot to mention. Such as to not bother with it. But there’s this weird force that’s keeping me here. How do I get out?
One time my friend was telling me the CONCEPT of this game the more I hear about it the more I laughed and the more I laughed the more I felt my sanity was drifting apart, if I actually play this game imma lose mind if not my throat before that happens
Honestly starting out just stick with multiverse travel. You don’t wanna make your queen her own grandmother by accident. Leave the time travel to future you.
Instructions unclear: I've travelled in middle ages and the people believe that i'm the real inventor of chess. Now the king wants my head because i've asked "too many rice" help!
This game is the game I never knew I needed to exist,.... I could not begin to even imagine how to play it yet,....but it existing is awesome. I know that there is a future version of me that is a Grandmaster of this already. Too bad he cannot come back in time to tech me how to play lol... Or has not come back yet. I guess I better start learning, and catch up with him.
‘Now I totally understand!’ Is what I’d like to say, but unfortunately the present has not caught up to the timeline in which that is the case.
This is my favorite comment
This may be my favorite RUclips comment of all time.
Love it!

As someone who plays 5d chess, this has successfully helped me understand less. Thank you
lmao

Im not surprised if that game is tagged as psychological horror in steam
Funnily it's tagged as survival horror

Alternatively, there's also the 3D slice of a 4D world which 4D miner went for.
And turn through

the editing is genuinely amazing i have no idea how you did this lol

Not again, Jerry! I’ll call the inter-dimensional time traveling knight to fix it.
1:53 not always, this is more likely a stalemate how you described it, a king must be in check on the present so that it counts as a win
You're right. I was confused about the stalemate rule because I had misremembered something from one of the puzzles. I've been thinking that the stalemate condition is checkmate this whole time. Thanks for pointing that out
Bro really said: "If the king is in check in the future that doesn't matter yet" like it was nothing.
Awesome video! By far one of the most visually attractive, simplified tutorials I've ever seen about this game. Great job dude!
The fact that the artist’s third most viewed video is about 5d chess with god damn multiverse time travel is rather comedic
Checking past kings is so much more powerful than checking present kings, just by virtue of it being way harder to deal with.
Im not even halfway to the end and the explanation made me tremble plus a severe headache, this game must have a really clear tutorial
Bro I used to watch your animations and play your games on scratch as a kid and now that we've both grown up i'm so impressed to see how far you've come
I'm too dumb to play regular chess, I can't even imagine understanding this
It’s very simple, he is just talking fast trying to confuse mfs. If you just pay attention, nothing he says is groundbreaking.
This game feels like a necessary challenge to ascend to a higher state of mind.
me winning while doing only random moves : "this must be the choice of steins gate"
This is how God feels trying to give you a decent storyline while you constantly make the wrong choices and fuck it up
I have to say this 4min video explains the game a lot better than the 13min video I started watching before this
Finally dialga and palkia created chess 2

Thank you, now i can checkmate my opponent in 5 different timelines
This video had me laughing hysterically at the sheer absurdity of the concepts. They totally make sense, but also they're so fucking insane.
Love how you explained it in dimensions with the knight.
As a regular chess 5D with time travel multiverse this is a good simple video for starters
man 😭 this videos so absurdly well made bro

The easiest way to visualize it imo is to use the view where all the boards are standing up on end. It lets you easily visualize how pieces (best done with the bishop) can spend their movement not only on one board but also spread their movement across the multiple

Checkmate, rook to 3 hours and 47 minutes before your mother was born

Normal chess is about remember all possible move while 5d chess is about to confuse you and your enemies
When you don't want to lose
Time travel
"That doesn't matter yet" broke me
Makes perfect sense.
