tom possessed And the fact that most women also realize that they would earn less than their male counterparts because of viewership ratings kinda makes the career less enticing.
Well the WNBA is an interesting case because the WNBA doesn't actually earn money, they lose money. The only argument you could make to the contrary is that SOMEHOW the existence of the WNBA gives the NBA good press. So that is why WNBA players earn their salary. Also Ironically the largest audience for the WNBA are Older Men who like the fundamentals.
Logan McBride Yeah, both sexes seem fairly equal when it comes to golf. A woman could totally whoop a guy's ass because it comes down more to precision than power.
You've never played golf have you. Strength has a huge part to play. Ladies tees are usually about 30-60 yards closer to the hole because they can't drive as far as men can.
Women have tried to whoop men's asses at golf. It didn't work out that way. Michelle Wie, who was, and still is I guess, a very good female golfer played 8 PGA Tour events. She didn't make the cut once.
I am a female forensic psychologist. I was in school from 1988-98. During that time we watched the wage gap get smaller & smaller every year until it got up to within 2 or 3%. That was looking at equal time, equal work. Basically, base pay per hour. Now, 20 years later, they seem to have forgotten how to do a proper study. Now they are doing 2 things that I have noticed when it comes to "pay gap" studies. First, they are simply comparing male vs. female gross pay average. That's where they get the 30% gap. Most anyone with 2 brain cells can see the problems with that. The second thing I have noticed is a little more tricky. They will look at the same profession, the same experience level, kinda keeping everything above board & looking legit. Then they look at 100 men vs. 100 women. Here is where the problem is. They total up the hours worked and the gross pay & get the $ per hour. Anyone see the problem yet? What happens when you get into overtime? You get paid more per hour for OT & men work more overtime. When you average it out, gross pay divided by hours worked, what happens? It's more per hour. Ex: Bob works 40 hours at $50 per hour, then he works an extra 15 hours at $75 per hour. that's a total of 55 hours. That's $2,000 in base pay plus $1,125 in OT for a total of $3,125. Divide that by 55 hours worked = $56.81per hour. Mary works 40 hours at the same base pay rate of $50 an hour but Mary is smart & is more than happy making $2,000 a week so she passes on the overtime so she can catch the monster truck rally with her family. (they have boys) :) lol Mary & Bob have the exact same base pay rate. That is indeed equal pay my friends. Some of these "studies" go out of their way adding up gross pay and hours worked. That's totally unnecessary. You can simply look at base pay rates. However, they want to find a wage gap & they know overtime pays more per hour and men work more overtime. This results in more average dollars per hour. They present this as a wage gap & it's not. This is intentionally misleading people and a trick like this is not immediately obvious to people that aren't well versed in reading academic research. It's academic fraud if you ask me. Yes, some studies make honest errors, some variables can't be well controlled for, it happens. These are honest errors but when they intentionally include unnecessary variables knowing it will produce inaccurate results that they then claim as valid is academic fraud. I see this kind of activist BS in crime research too. Actually, I would have to say I see at least as many, possibly more activist studies in crime research. That may be because I read lots more studies related to crime but my point stands either way. Activist studies are intentionally misleading people for political reasons and I have a real problem with that. If we want to make the world a better place, we need honest & accurate information. When we spend truckloads of money and upset lots of people trying to "fix" a "problem" that isn't really a problem, we take money and attention away from real issues. Like I said, I am a woman and I would absolutely blow my top if I saw women getting paid less for the same work but, like I said, we saw that real gap go away years ago. Now, they have to use activist junk science to find a pay gap. What irritates me about modern feminism is It's no longer fighting for equal rights or equal pay. Some feminists fall for their own narrative but it's a pure power play now and they are wasting resources that could, and should go towards real social issues. How many inner city kids could we have helped had feminists been doing honest research on schools and education instead of flushing money down the toilet doing junk, activist studies, to push the victim narrative? I repeat, we need honest, accurate, information if we want to make the world a better place. lol Sorry, I got on my soapbox here & typed enough for a small novel but I do feel this is a very important issue.
Was pretty easy to see. Base pay is base pay. In one of my statistics classes we had to show how we could manufacture a desired outcome. The point was to teach us statistics can tell any story if the person using the data is trying to push a narrative. And taught us to keep personal views out of the reports.
Tony Prince Maybe my comment wasn't 100% clear but I meant that the IDEA of the pay gap is ridiculous. There are a few interviews that Rousey did and she basically said that she is getting paid correctly compared to her male counterparts. I agree that there isn't a pay gap. Especially in sports.
Nice to see Ronda being fine with with this, she feels she's being paid what she's worth. Think she could bring some sense to other female celebrities complaining about a pay gap?
Supply and demand, baby. There's a channel for everything. Don't forget that Retirement Living TV and the Smithsonian Channel exist. Try to guess what they're about.
Because it's really quite a bit more complicated than that. It's not that they are willing to earn less for more work, these days there would be outrage if a firm did that not to mention it is probably illegal. It's more like guys get slightly more promotions and thus over the long term you end up with higher payed male employees, stuff like that. It has allot more to do with subtle subconscious decisions than outright sexist bosses or anything.
pop1040 It's not "probably illegal" it *is* illegal. It the 23 cent gap *actually* existed, then lawmakers and the people that support the idea are idiots for not *immediately* taking this to court. It's not a real gap because it doesn't compare similar or like things. It's a median difference, which is completely different.
In tennis women play shorter matches with a best of 3 not a best of 5 sets. Additionally that causes a larger amount of male tennis time being aired. However, since they have forced prize money equality now. The winners get paid the same despite the men putting in more time, effort, and energy. They bring in more revenue and views largely in part to the longer matches. So, if we want equal pay for equal work shouldn't men get paid more in tennis???? Or is my view of equal pay for equal work sexist?
Why is this comment ignored...this is the core regarding the tennis example. So equal here is definately unequal. Soooo men are paying the woman in tennis? Also both Serena sisters got beat on the same day by an older male player ranked nr 200 something...look it up. I believe he even golfed that morning.. and liked his drinks and cigarettes....equal opportunity is important in everything. But the rest should be based on performance and results. Everything else is favouritism and discrimination in some form
justanotheronedotcom I appreciate your comment because this is often overlooked and you are right how they got beat by a ranked 218 man in a one on one. Equal opportunity is far more important than outcome.
Uhhh no..? I dont see how it is "unfair" bc working harder doesnt mean anything when it comes to pay for sports its all about whose watching, ratings and the like..... And im relatively certain that for tennis women and men bring in roughly the same amount of publicity and seats..... so...
These really feel like cherry picked examples anyway. A more convincing argument would be to show a large pool of players, both male and female, and compare earnings.
@@JohnSmith-gm4qe Even THAT is irrelevant because the amount players are paid is based on their level of success or notoriety within the sport relative to the size of the active (not passive) audience. For example. WNBA players get paid less because it's a 4th-rate league (NONE of the women could play at an elite male level) and no one wants to watch it. However, it is the pinnacle of women's basketball competition. The best-of-the-best women in the sport just aren't interesting or competitive enough to watch to be much of a draw. Less money earned by the league means less money available to pay players after the costs of running the league itself are taken into consideration. If women were jumping out of the gym and dunking from the foul-line, people would be lining up to watch them. Actually, more likely, they'd be playing in the NBA and the WNBA would be a development league. Until women are athletically capable of the same things men are, they won't consistently draw the same audience, and therefore just won't make the same in the sports that require more athleticism. Finesse games like golf have the most potential for equivalency simply because the skillset is less about athleticism and more about accuracy and control. It is conceivable that the top women's golfer could consistently beat the top men's golfer. At that point, this may become an actual debate, but even then there are still other factors in play... The sports world is probably the LEAST relevant place to apply this conundrum.
I think when they put statistics on which has no political relevance then they can be reliable. Just like news programs can have accurate reporting when they don't have a stake in it. The reason why this happens is because they feel that there is no profit to be made from objectivity, it's better to just confirm your viewers biases even if it means lying or misleading. Or else they feel like they will lose their viewers. News is a product to be sold and as any product, you are only able to sell what people want to buy.
Kenrick Halff Exactly. When they decide to actually source information, they *can* be reliable. It's rare, but it does happen in mainstream reporting lol.
Yeah Forbes is a surprisingly trashy source of information, given how it's probably the _most read_ financial news site there is. That said, in the Information Age that we live in today, the quality of journalism is getting worse; it's all about quantity rather than quality, getting as many clicks as possible, and since they're now almost entirely funded by adverts rather than consumers, have a heavy bias towards what the advertisers want to show. Remember when RUclips went around de-monitising videos that had swearing/adult content in their videos? You've got advertisers to thank for that! They want their videos their ads are placed in to be clean, so RUclips bows down and complies, since their almost entire revenue comes solely from advertising. Forbes may not be politically bias (i.e. - right vs left), but that doesn't mean they can't be bias in other ways.
It's also worth mentioning that Federer earns more from endorsements than any athlete on the planet, he's considerably more popular than Serena outside of North America.
Can we stop with the making up special days on social media bullshit? No one cares it was National Hot Dog Day or Ride Your Bike To The 7/11 Day. Hell for all I know tomorrow could be National Blow Yourself Day and it would be the number one trend.
There are many really stupid days and months already; I remember back when there was controversy over the Trump Administration not recognizing LGBT month or something, which doesn't sound that bad on it's own, but they recognized a bunch of stupid shit at the same time...
I'm going to say this again for everyone, if you could pay women less money for the same job a man is doing, then the men would get fired and more women would get hired.
no that only applies to Wages not salary. Women get paid less than men all the time in salary despite having similar or the same credentials.... part of the reason why i hate the term WAGE gap...bc it isnt a WAGE gap but an earnings gap..... and alot of that earnings gap can be attributed to child rearing and/or personal choice (like eprsonal choice to work parttime bc you feel like it). I think income gap based on race is far more prolific in the USA, and race compounded with gender can make that gap all the more daunting
@@MrEvldreamr no actually women are being paid substantially more in cities for the same jobs and skillset as their counterparts by over 20% more especially high up positions. As well women are graduating with degrees far more...as to if those degrees are really worth anything is a different story.
@@davidu8688 having a degree is irrelevant when it comes to making money. What I wanna know is which statistics are you looking at that show women making more than men in the same job w the same credentials?
Conor was a hype man who known for putting up a fight. Ronda on the other hand lose *one* fight, went crying, spent a few mouths out, had a hype up return, and got TKO 13 seconds in. Yeah, that wage gap thing in MMA is almost just.
Ya she also doesn't buy into the Feminist bullshit too. She's called out the "pay gap" in multiple interviews. She simply says "You get paid for how much you bring in. I'm living comfortably. I'm fine."
fun fact: the tennis majors tournament pay men and women the same amount, despite men playing best of 5 and women playing best of 3, and despite men tennis being more popular
I think it should be based on sheer physical ability instead of gender. That way, women who are as strong as men get to play sports with men. And men who are good, but not as good as the other men, can play with the women.
+Greg is a Whiteboy That's a nice theory, but sports tend to have top of the line athletes, with the most effective men and women possible competing. A woman could become stronger than any average man with some training, but they couldn't beat the strongest man no matter how hard they try. As a result, in most things, the strongest team would simply be all men.
I don't doubt that there are still a few companies out there that will pay a woman less than a man with the same education and the same experience for the same exact job, but those types of places are becoming pretty rare. We need to consider how much progress has been made in this area in a relatively short period of time. Pay for men and women for the same work is far, far more equal than it used to be and it continues to become more equal. The thing that pisses me off the most about this argument is that a lot of the women who complain about not making what the average man makes usually have some bullshit degree in gender studies or liberal arts. If you want to study those things that's fine, but don't get mad when you can't find a decent paying job, or any job at all in that field.
i never really understood the reason for a gender pay gap to exist, isn’t it just plain illogical for a business to pay men more? not very cost efficient imo
But do they pay women less, or are they only paid less when you look at their annual salary ? Because it is proven that women overall work less hours. Whether that is to pick the kids up from school, or maternity leave, or just not taking overtime opportunities. In the end it all looks like the woman is making less at the end of the year, but in reality she is getting the same opportunities as a man and just declined them.
@@awesome_superstar97 I work small business and talk with loads of other businessmen public and private about how to cut the costs (this is the only thing eveybody in business in interested - how to spend less and make more). However, never ever anyone has thrown me idea of hiring women.
jdzspace33 From college to about 30, single women earn slightly more than men. After 30, even single women's hours per week trend down while single men's increases. Then we start to see a deviation where men start earning more. Out of college, married women work less hours than married men and consequently start off in a hole on pay that never gets better. Hours worked per week can explain the pay gap in all fields except the service industry (men more than women) and secretarial/administrative (women more than men).
Take the WNBA for example, Not as many people like to watch it on TV The stands are almost never full The level of play in the WNBA is childish compared to the NBA.
Duck Hunter Gaming exactly but some of their stupid little stars fail to realize that year in year out, posting shit on Twitter how they don’t get enough, like don’t blame anyone other than yourselves and why you can’t convince people to go more often to your games, what can you do to attract more people, some people I tell ya
It still depends on the person. Maybe what you said was objective, but it doesn't change the fact that women, men, children and all races should have equal rights and all skills.
@@kieranstark7213 nobody here said they should not have those rights, we are just sick and tired of organizations trying to "level the playing field" when it comes to males and females in the workplace
It's funny to hear Buckley cast a little shade at "RUclips mathematicians" (even though more reliable sources have debunked the 77% myth, including major publications) then turn into a RUclips mathematician himself =p
Just to put this in there, Buckley, the study regarding the wage gap is the same being quoted for both sides. Essentially they take the average pay those who identify as male and those who identify as female. They do not compare like to like. There is a study out there that does that, and the gap is somewhere more in the 1-3% range. The gap is explained there due to more aggressive bartering for salary by males. I know you're unlikely to care, but hell, why not post this. I mean, honestly most studies that get quoted in headlines are normally far overblown in their actual merit.
Um, yea, you have to put a checkbox in gender for that. That's going to become an issue for studies like this, sadly. Because, you know, gender is a construct or some such happy bullshit. As if studies weren't growing more and more useless as a source of factual information and proper statistical studies.
So am I. Sadly, until sanity returns to society, you have to sometimes use the terms of the insane to ensure you're being clear. I half-expected these comments to be invaded by those who have spread those false wage gap stats for years. So far people here have been level headed. Trust me, though, I'm right there with you.
Also keep in mind that women's tennis lasts 3 sets, while men's tennis lasts 6. Equal pay for equal work? Williams worked half the time Federer did even when she did play.
Thank you for being so concise, the amount of times I've had to explain to people that a lack of exposure means a lower salary, and they can't seem to comprehend it. Now I don't have to waste my time explaining this, and can link people to your video, you've really helped me out.
The fact that Buckley has to actually explain this makes me lose faith in humanity. I'm an avid watcher of baseball and hockey, while only following basketball and football. Have 2+ fantasy teams for all 4 sports and have been watching hockey for over 10 years and baseball for just over 3 now. This is basic knowledge and anyone who watches sports like I do know that these "Stats" the feminist fake news website is using is full of horse crap. It's why Kaepernick has a ton of followers. People who don't watch or don't care about sports think that he's some hero and pander to the liberal media that tells you he's practising his "rights". Anyone who actually watches sports knows that owners pay you to play football or any other sport and anything else you do is baggage ESPECIALLY drawing attention to yourself in the media to things other than your play. When you're getting paid millions and kneeling for the country that gives you the opportunity to play make the money, of course an owner is gonna cut you. Sports is what I watch to pass the time and I like the physical and mental aspect of them. Don't ruin the near century traditions of sports with your stupid left wing and feminist policies that anyone who watches sports doesn't care about.
I doubt Serena Williams, or any of those athletes care that they're being payed less than men when they're still payed MILLIONS TO BILLIONS of dollars. They're doing just fine if not better than MOST men and women who aren't nearly as popular or as good as they are in those sports.
Triggered true but if their is a wage gap in tennis it's deserved because they only get paid if they win. They don't get salaries. So the fact that Federer made so much more is justified since he wins a lot more.
Also, in male tennis, in the major games called grand slams, male players play longer matches than do females. When I say longer matches, I mean that men play best to 5 sets in grand slams. While females only play best to 3 sets in grand slams. Men deserve more pay in tennis.
Well technically Serena gets paid more for winning a grand slam than Roger because she plays best of 3 set matches while Roger plays best of 5 , the prize money is the same so more money for less hrs for the ladies .
This comment isn’t about sports, but it’s worth commenting about the gender pay gap anyway. I’m happy to pull up citations and discuss, but something I read from a Harvard economist provided a good explanation; the gender pay gap is somewhere in between ‘not existing’ and ‘existing’. Women and men with the same qualifications and experience in the same roles get paid the same amount generally until they start to have kids. It’s pretty much the norm in many countries that women take a majority of the maternity leave while their partners continue to work, and if/when they return to work they’re now behind in terms of career development or have to prioritise lower paying jobs with greater flexibility. Then once either partner’s parents start ageing and need more support during business hours, whichever partner earns less (which might be the female at that point) makes more sense for them to take more time off work to look after them etc. So there is a gap but it’s very rarely due to discrimination. It would be great if men all got the same paternity leave and were incentivised to take it, which might go some way to providing families the opportunity to actually choose who wants to do more of the the child rearing and caring (or just share it equitably).
You know while it was a good vid, that shot at he"RUclips mathematicians" really bugged me, because those people debunking the study did the exact same thing he did. That study was misleading much like how that article was misleading, and all those youtubers did was point out why, just like how he did.
Not even a hundred thousand views? Geez... I'm sure my one view doesn't matter much but I enjoy watching these with my gf who introduced me to this channel back in "Best songs of 2010" Hope you keep on going. I know you've said you will because of the small crowd you started with but even still. Great stuff.
Did Buckley just make fun of RUclipsrs like Steven Crowder, calling them "RUclips mathematicians" and then proceed to make an entire video doing the same thing as them? BTW earnings of famous people (entertainers, athletes, etc) is always difficult to compare because they're earnings are based on so many factors. It's not like they're paid a flat salary or hourly wage.
Man, Buckley, I really like how you approached the topic of the wage gap. Athletes really shouldn't be used for comparisons like this like musical artists shouldn't. Their earnings are based on how well they pander to us, I mean so are mine because i work in food for tips, but that is VERY different. Thr main stats that i want are like your example, show me male and female doctors, lawyers, and politicians wages and then we'll talk about pay gaps.
People don't understand that women get paid less because we're more likely to have children and dedicate ourselves to the family more than a career. And of course there's nothing wrong with that choosing either one is both is equally as good as the other, but we'd would get equal pay if we decided to go dedicate Our Lives to a career than have children and raise a family. Like with any company you're not going to choose someone that is more likely to leave within five years compared to someone that can give you 10 plus years. It seems unfair but realistically that's how it is, in the future that would be nice that you could have a family and have children and still have a career of 15 + years under your belt. That's something that we should all strive to work towards so you don't have to choose.
Lynne Bryan scientific research factors this in :/ its weighted. and still shows that on avg, a women makes between 6-7% less than a man. thats on avg. of course it doesnt apply to all industries
Lynne Bryan The thing is, women can't have it all. It's simply impossible to be a great mother, wife, and have a long fulfilling career. You'll have to make compromises somewhere.
"More likely to have children" Wow, just stay in the kitchen please. I don't know what substance you're taking to think some men are having children, but its time to quit.
@@ju2tic3 - the weighting is biased due to numerous factors that aren't taken into consideration, like choices, willingness to work more, longer hours, the disparity that develops when self-suppressing choices are made, and the gap that emerges because of it. These studies either look at a snapshot of men and women at a specific age or over the broad course of an entire career path, but in both cases leave either the career specifics as general as possible, or fail to consider ambition as a factor. You would be hard-pressed to convince me that the average woman is as competitive as the average man. There are fundamental differences between men and women that have nothing to do with discrimination that play enormous roles in the outcomes. Bottom line is this: women (generally) only make less because of their choices, not because of some systemic patriarchy oppressing them. In fact, in the long run, women benefit significantly more financially in our current system. Men make more, pay more taxes, and die younger. More than 20% of men die before even reaching retirement age. Any (imaginary) 6-7% gap is more than made up for by the additional contribution men make to pension plans, healthcare, infrastructure, etc. If a woman chooses to approach a career the same way a man does, making the same sacrifices, and committing to the same ambition, there's no way she'd make any less for doing the same job. It just doesn't make any sense, and the entire debate is designed to manufacture social injustice where there just is none.
I agree with your main point because there is a pay gap but using sport as an example when it's an industry so dependant on advertising is doing an injustice.
:3 I love this for so many reasons, but this is seriously the point. If it's not actual jobs that the layman participates in, who the fuck cares. We're not going to be the people that see that kind of cash. Show me the wage gap between the every day man and woman. Don't inflate or deflate numbers indiscriminately
I like that Buckley points out the flaws in where information comes from and how it is presented. I think wage gaps occur more frequently in low end jobs and in certain areas of the country. With my current education, I believe I'm on par for the national average in my field. When I was in college however I worked at a store where on average men were paid several dollars an hour more for the same job. In fact, there was a 2hr exam you had to take for this job. A gentleman and I (same age, from same school, and same experience) applied at the same time. I scored higher on the intake exam, after a few months I was promoted to shift manager (so I had more responsibilities), and yet nearly a year in he and I were talking one night and I found out that he still made $2 an hour more than me (even though at this point I was his superior). He was as surprised as I. A very similar thing happened at 2 other jobs I held while working my way through undergrad and grad school. Then, when joining a work force where salaries and such are much more transparent, I never ran into the problem again. So, I do believe wage gaps exist, what I wish would happen was that all pay in all industries was transparent...then, as long as a company can justify why one person makes more than another than is fine.
Heres an idea, have Federer play Williams n see what the score is at the end, Nadal's right arm alone has more muscle than all female tennis players combined.
Since it was asked. I was a long haul trucker. I'm now a local trucker. When I started work as a trucker we sat down in a big class room with other people for orientation. We all got the exact same hand outs regarding pay. We get paid per mile with some exceptions for live loads, delays, experience, ect. When I started out I made 25 cents a mile with no experience solo. Everyone did regardless of sex. This was in 2011 Right now as a local driver I make 40 cents a mile plus drop and hook pay, plus other exceptions with 6+ years experience. A female who worked otr for 6 months makes the exact same money I make with 6 years experience. They allowed her on this assignment because she started out over the road (Long haul) but became pregnant and needed to be home every night and some days off. I worked my ass off to get this awesome local job. She got knocked up and got this awesome local job.
Regarding the wage gaps in sports. I mean come on there is obviously going to be and should be when you consider how much money mens sport brings in when compared to womens sport. I just watched somethign where there was a lady saying that the reason no one watches womens sport is because it is not on tv much and if it was people would watch it. I disagree, i am not sexist in anyway but i do not want to watch women playing sports the same way as i do not wanna watch guys doing porn. People want to see the fastest and the strongest pitted against each other.
It's simple, the more viewers you bring in, the more money you get paid as you're making the owners more money. That's why women footballers earn a fucking fraction of what male footballers earn.
Can't we just all agree that all these athletes are getting paid too much? It's ridiculous, especially in football (the proper one, not handegg), with players going for more than 200 fucking million.
I read an article about the soccer wage gap that pointed out that the gap between the highest earning women and men doesn't really show much, but the gap between the 50th highest earning women and men shows a lot, which I think is a VERY important point that Forbes could have focused on instead.
People also have to realize that for Federer (as an example) earns about 1,5-2x what every other male tennis start makes (until Djokovic at least) because he has incredible marketing gigs. I mean he has Barilla and Rolex as 2 of his main sponsors for which he played in a giant amount of TV spots. Meanwhile Williams is mostly advertising for tennis articles (like rackets and clothes).
Returned to this after watching a video on ITV suggesting that female football (soccer) players should get paid more than their male counterparts, not just getting an equal wage (which in England that already happens) on the basis that "historically women in sports have always been paid less" and also because the winners winning purse is vastly different in the men's and women's European championships.
Reasons people don't watch that many female sports. (Not being sexist just stating facts of how people think) 1. The highest rated players are men. 2. The most skilled players are men. 3. It's easier to access mens sports. As I said, not being sexist, just saying.
It's always weird to see articles from places like buzzfeed saying they've experienced the pay gap firsthand at their current job Couldn't they, you know, sue? Talk to their boss about it? Why would a company allow them to publish an article making themselves look bad? It's so shady
I think the wage gap should be solved once and for all by making all wages earned by everyone public, I mean if both sides think they're right why not let everyone see it?
why does your earning have to be private? Portugal made all wages earned public and there has been no rise in crime against the upper middle class, I don't see why it needs to be private.
I completely agree. I have no idea how someone goes "Oh, let's find a wage gap in entertainment industry... it is totally not based on popularity there!" It is like going on Twitch and comparing how much does Ninja make as opposed to the most watched female streamer.
Wow, another actual good video from Buckley! Good sources, and solid in depth research to back up his claim. Don't know why he had to take that shot at Steven Crowder. But other than that, an actual good video.
Women are to blame for their own pay gap in sports. Now before you shit on me, read on. Pay in sports comes down to two things, viewership, and how well teams do. The better a team does, the more views they get, the more money is made, the more they can pay the players. Now we know the main consumer of sports is men, and men like to watch men's sports, heck if I know why, but we do. Women aren't as into watching sports, which is the problem. If more women watched women's sports, hyped it more, I think they would have a larger viewership. Sadly women don't want to, it's easier to complain about something than to do something about it.
8:19 my mother works as a civil rights lawyer and (at least at her law firm) everyone who works in certain positions is giving a certain wage. no raises, no negotiation. additionally, everyone who works there has access to a chart that shows the wage for each position. again, i don't know if this is standard, but at least it can give an idea of how some people work around the possibility of a wage gap
I'm guessing people just saw the title of this video and thought: "Ha this person might have a different view than I. I must comment about him being left." The ironic twist, my friends, is that he has the same view on this shit as them.
Then what was that internet mathematician jab about, in the video he seems to say he does not know whether to confirm nor deny the wage gap, probably for political reasons.
It's all well and good for these people to cry "but muh wage gap!" but they fail to look into the context between the their pay, their argument would be valid if they found legitimate examples of the wage gap.
Something I haven't heard anyone bring up is for major tennis, men play a minimum of 3 sets and up to 5, while women play a minimum of 2 and up to 3. Now I suppose you could say that during regular tournaments this isn't the case, but far less people watch those.
I've always enjoyed golf because of the fact that you can only suceed by your skill alone. Its also a "sport" that forces you to always stay on your guard, since every single golf course that exists is distinct from the others.
In tennis, the prize money is exactly the same for women as it is men, even though men’s tennis get much more viewership. It’s even the same in grand slams even though men play best of five sets and women only play best of three sets, meaning they get paid more for doing less work. Especially Roger Federer, who has been voted fans favorite for something like 17 straight years, brings in people to watch the sport like nobody else ever in its existence. But even still, the prize money is the exact same, and so anyone who tries to argue that there is a wage gap in tennis has absolutely no idea what they are talking about
Also, Federer is super famous; at least here in Europe. He tends to star in advertisements pretty often, AND he has a brand. Like, 120 bucks for a t-shirt type of brand.
There was even an article somewhere where the author complained how women football/soccer players earn so little compared to men football/soccer players...
What about the us women’s soccer team? They earn less than the men even though they’ve won the World Cup and Olympics multiple times and draw more viewership. Men didn’t even qualify for the next world cup 😒
Mainly because the competition organizers (FIFA) take the revenue not the teams, after that the revenue is distributed amongst all international teams based on there positions at the end of the tournament. Mens Soccer also is much more popular than Womens soccer as well, so that also plays heavily as a factor. Sports just isn't a good example to use for the wage gap because earnings depend on spectators, performance, and popularity of athletes.
i can explain the tennis thing. it's probably because BOTH williams sisters played against the number 200 of men tennis on the same day and lost to him. this was also after he played 8 holes of golf and had a few drinks. it's incredible that they still make that much considering they're so much worse actually
The other thing about tennis is that in the grand slams men play 3-5 sets every match whilst women only play 2-3. Add that together with the other stuff mentioned here and Federrer may actually be paid less.
No, it's not just you, don't worry, there's a whole group of mouthbreathers who feel the same way. I think you meet in church basements across the US right after the AA meeting ends.
I'm not saying that it's all 20 million that he has made more, but roger also has a major deal with Nike and Jordan, and you know they always bring the big money when they are involved in a deal.
Fun fact and you can look it up women say it them self. Women body don't repair as fast as men and not as strong as men so their sports are kinda like watching college football right actually it less the women soccer team ( professional) got beat by of bunch of 13 year old boys so yeah. Also as far as the racing suit goes women Pretty much see time slower than men or if you want men react faster than women.
Okay, can we at least all agree that all the money we’re giving to a bunch of people who can hit a ball well/throw a ball well/punch someone better than the other person could go to curing cancer or something? But no, Miss and Mister athlete need sports cars and Gucci sandals.
That's incredibly idealistic and simple thinking. First of all these people usually run charities, i.e., theyre philantrophists as they are athletes(though to which ends we will never be sure of). Second, scientific research is not at all underfunded, there has always been a good driving force of resources and well-trained people for medical innovation. Third, the money they earn comes from sponsors by corporations, not exactly the people you'd associate with "caring about the world." Furthermore these people are literally just making a living the only way they know how to. As enormous as the money they earn is, no person let alone athlete, will "buy gucci sandals thinking it's more important than cancer research."
Lets not. These people earn what they make by entertaining hundreds of thousands and in some cases millions of people. What they spend that money on is irrelevant to the fact that they've earned it. Go put your own money into cancer research if you care so much.

I didn't even know men and women's golf was seperate
Logan McBride Yeah, both sexes seem fairly equal when it comes to golf. A woman could totally whoop a guy's ass because it comes down more to precision than power.
You've never played golf have you. Strength has a huge part to play. Ladies tees are usually about 30-60 yards closer to the hole because they can't drive as far as men can.
Women have tried to whoop men's asses at golf. It didn't work out that way. Michelle Wie, who was, and still is I guess, a very good female golfer played 8 PGA Tour events. She didn't make the cut once.
Are u people idiots?
Tiger Woods is like a lesbian golf player?

It's because women don't have the necessary drive. Not enough strength.
Ex:
Bob works 40 hours at $50 per hour, then he works an extra 15 hours at $75 per hour.
that's a total of 55 hours.
(they have boys) :) lol
Mary & Bob have the exact same base pay rate.

I laughed when I saw Ronda Rousey because even she said the pay gap was ridiculous. Not her exact words but it was clear.
Hailey Lewis there is no pay gap
Tony Prince Maybe my comment wasn't 100% clear but I meant that the IDEA of the pay gap is ridiculous. There are a few interviews that Rousey did and she basically said that she is getting paid correctly compared to her male counterparts. I agree that there isn't a pay gap. Especially in sports.
Nice to see Ronda being fine with with this, she feels she's being paid what she's worth. Think she could bring some sense to other female celebrities complaining about a pay gap?
This, Ronda literally gets annoyed when people bring it up. She even says MMA is a great pro female sport.
She said that you should get paid for the amount of money you bring in which is why UFC men make more than her.

The whole gender pay gap theory just doesn't make any sense. If women were willing to do the job for less money, why hire men at all?
Haley, especially if it would land them a sweet spot in jail.
Don't forget men tend to work a lot more overtime... Which obviously results in them having earned more within a given time frame.
pop1040 It's not "probably illegal" it *is* illegal. It the 23 cent gap *actually* existed, then lawmakers and the people that support the idea are idiots for not *immediately* taking this to court.
It's not a real gap because it doesn't compare similar or like things. It's a median difference, which is completely different.
It's also usually not a pay gap, but an earnings gap. And not enough people are able to or care to understand the difference.
Women tennis will happily play 5 sets over 3. The problem is schedule conflicts for ATP.
Uhhh no..? I dont see how it is "unfair" bc working harder doesnt mean anything when it comes to pay for sports its all about whose watching, ratings and the like.....
And im relatively certain that for tennis women and men bring in roughly the same amount of publicity and seats..... so...
MrEvldreamr I highly doubt that.
Sports wages are not consistent there is no real conclusion about a gender pay gap to be drawn from this.
These really feel like cherry picked examples anyway. A more convincing argument would be to show a large pool of players, both male and female, and compare earnings.
This video is directly addressing a tweet about the gender pay in sports. It's not a generalization about the gender pay gap overall.
The biggest surprise here is that Buckley considers Forbes a reliable, non-biased source for serious information.
That Mayweather joke was gold. Thanks for that one Buckley.
It's also worth mentioning that Federer earns more from endorsements than any athlete on the planet, he's considerably more popular than Serena outside of North America.

I'm going to say this again for everyone, if you could pay women less money for the same job a man is doing, then the men would get fired and more women would get hired.
No cause men are better at most jobs
no that only applies to Wages not salary.

Should men and women be playing the exact same sports in the exact same leagues by the exact same rules?
You eat Big Macs like Tic Tacs what if you got equal strength of both
I think it should be based on sheer physical ability instead of gender. That way, women who are as strong as men get to play sports with men. And men who are good, but not as good as the other men, can play with the women.
Greg is a Whiteboy
There is no
Such thing
+Greg is a Whiteboy That's a nice theory, but sports tend to have top of the line athletes, with the most effective men and women possible competing. A woman could become stronger than any average man with some training, but they couldn't beat the strongest man no matter how hard they try. As a result, in most things, the strongest team would simply be all men.
RedLuigi235
No, not all the time
I don't doubt that there are still a few companies out there that will pay a woman less than a man with the same education and the same experience for the same exact job, but those types of places are becoming pretty rare.
Michael Gemmill Very few people argue a pay gap, people like to ignore things such as men on average working more hours and then argue an income gap.

I doubt Serena Williams, or any of those athletes care that they're being payed less than men when they're still payed MILLIONS TO BILLIONS of dollars. They're doing just fine if not better than MOST men and women who aren't nearly as popular or as good as they are in those sports.
Most of them make more money from advertising than they do playing the actual sport.
Triggered true but if their is a wage gap in tennis it's deserved because they only get paid if they win. They don't get salaries. So the fact that Federer made so much more is justified since he wins a lot more.
Surprised Robot *paid
Also, in male tennis, in the major games called grand slams, male players play longer matches than do females. When I say longer matches, I mean that men play best to 5 sets in grand slams. While females only play best to 3 sets in grand slams.
Men deserve more pay in tennis.
Well technically Serena gets paid more for winning a grand slam than Roger because she plays best of 3 set matches while Roger plays best of 5 , the prize money is the same so more money for less hrs for the ladies .
At 9:12, for half a second when you said "But hey..." I expected "That's just a theory...a Buckley theory! Thanks for watching!" to follow after, heh.
Men's sports bring in a way better audience and sell more jerseys. Male athletes bring in more money so they get paid more. Simple as that.
It's also noteworthy that men play more tennis in pro tournaments, 5 sets vs 3 sets for women. Automatically that should mean a 40% wage gap, no?

Pretty much sums up the "Wage gap" issue.
Geez...
I'm sure my one view doesn't matter much but I enjoy watching these with my gf who introduced me to this channel back in "Best songs of 2010"
Hope you keep on going.
This was in 2011
Right now as a local driver I make 40 cents a mile plus drop and hook pay, plus other exceptions with 6+ years experience.
I used to rely on Forbes quite a bit way back then. I don't even give them the time of day anymore and this piece proves why.
It's simple, the more viewers you bring in, the more money you get paid as you're making the owners more money. That's why women footballers earn a fucking fraction of what male footballers earn.
This is one of the most in-depth videos Buckley's done. I'm still impressed after watching it multiple times.
Heck, I'd just be happy with just making one million dollars. These girls shouldn't be complaining.
Mortilum they're not. Forbes is.
I'm assuming Forbes is partially ran by Feminists.
Don't say "these girls" unless you're talking about the athletes. RUclips Comment Readers(tm) like me aren't mind readers.
Completely different in the music industry
Same difference.
More popular men in sports, than women.
More popular women in music, than men.
TheKiroshi Uhhh definitely not true.
TheKiroshi ugh not really they are pretty close and equal in the music department .
This debate applies to the music industry about as much as it applies to sports... it doesn't.
Why don't they talk about the wage gap in modelling then?
Or porn.
Glad I kept watching... thought you were going to twist this into to something claiming the wage gap existed. I was pleasantly surprised.
If WNBA players want to make NBA salaries then try out for an NBA team
And fail
I know you already did this on strea, but thank you for making it a video that I can actually share.
Reasons people don't watch that many female sports. (Not being sexist just stating facts of how people think)
1. The highest rated players are men.
2. The most skilled players are men.
3. It's easier to access mens sports.
As I said, not being sexist, just saying.
how is it easier to access men's sports?
It's always weird to see articles from places like buzzfeed saying they've experienced the pay gap firsthand at their current job
Couldn't they, you know, sue? Talk to their boss about it? Why would a company allow them to publish an article making themselves look bad?
It's so shady
I think the wage gap should be solved once and for all by making all wages earned by everyone public, I mean if both sides think they're right why not let everyone see it?
Privacy is overrated, so is understanding what on average means.
why does your earning have to be private? Portugal made all wages earned public and there has been no rise in crime against the upper middle class, I don't see why it needs to be private.
I completely agree. I have no idea how someone goes "Oh, let's find a wage gap in entertainment industry... it is totally not based on popularity there!"
It is like going on Twitch and comparing how much does Ninja make as opposed to the most watched female streamer.
Omg skill wage gap valve please fix
I'd rather get beaten up than having to sit through the entire women sports event. It's just too painful to watch.
This comment section is going to be fun, I'm sure.
The end was scathing. And sobering. Great video
The fact that anyone involved in golf makes any money makes me sick to my stomach....
Women watch sports, sad thing is that they watch men's sports.
I must comment about him being left."
The ironic twist, my friends, is that he has the same view on this shit as them.
Then what was that internet mathematician jab about, in the video he seems to say he does not know whether to confirm nor deny the wage gap, probably for political reasons.
I'm a Democrat/Liberal, and even I know the wage gap is complete and utter nonsense.
Jesus Serena is a goddess
kefkapalazzo1
Eww
That's a dude
HNIC Serena Williams would have you vascular as fuck in a second she's gorgeous
I've always enjoyed golf because of the fact that you can only suceed by your skill alone. Its also a "sport" that forces you to always stay on your guard, since every single golf course that exists is distinct from the others.
*The Gender Pay Gap:* Women complaing about not being paid enough due to their unproductivity.
Do you mean: Who is Amy Schumer?
In tennis, the prize money is exactly the same for women as it is men, even though men’s tennis get much more viewership. It’s even the same in grand slams even though men play best of five sets and women only play best of three sets, meaning they get paid more for doing less work. Especially Roger Federer, who has been voted fans favorite for something like 17 straight years, brings in people to watch the sport like nobody else ever in its existence. But even still, the prize money is the exact same, and so anyone who tries to argue that there is a wage gap in tennis has absolutely no idea what they are talking about
*Triggered meme*
I love the fact that you makes these to be funny (and they are!) but you also f'ing nail your facts. Top show.
Steven Crowder again!
Also, Federer is super famous; at least here in Europe. He tends to star in advertisements pretty often, AND he has a brand. Like, 120 bucks for a t-shirt type of brand.
Love ya buckley
There was even an article somewhere where the author complained how women football/soccer players earn so little compared to men football/soccer players...
What about the us women’s soccer team? They earn less than the men even though they’ve won the World Cup and Olympics multiple times and draw more viewership. Men didn’t even qualify for the next world cup 😒
Stop kicking a bowl of sugar around on a football field!
Because NO ONE GIVES A FUCK ABOUT SOCCER IN THE USA BESIDES FOREIGNERS.
Because they keep loosing to U15 boys teams
Do you mean their earnings with the national team or their earnings with their soccer clubs?
i can explain the tennis thing. it's probably because BOTH williams sisters played against the number 200 of men tennis on the same day and lost to him. this was also after he played 8 holes of golf and had a few drinks. it's incredible that they still make that much considering they're so much worse actually
No one really watches women's sports. Less viewers/fans equals less pay. It's really simple.
MrSmittiy true, it sort of sucks but women are on average physically weaker than men, so that's why men's sports is more popular
The other thing about tennis is that in the grand slams men play 3-5 sets every match whilst women only play 2-3. Add that together with the other stuff mentioned here and Federrer may actually be paid less.
You didn't need to make a comedy video on this Buckley. The idea of women in sports is already funny enough.
This is bait.
DrunkenRampage the idea of comparing athletes is ridiculous enough
DrunkenRampage
I want to see a woman drive some sweaty balls into a nice and wet hole.
Really? How is it funny? Please explain.
Dj Nichols You didn't explain why it's funny. Why is it retarded? Please use facts and logic.
That 51-0 joke was incredible god I miss you
Is it me or did buckley become more left leaning than he was a few years ago?
CurryB31 It's just you.
No, it's not just you, don't worry, there's a whole group of mouthbreathers who feel the same way. I think you meet in church basements across the US right after the AA meeting ends.
Try actually watching the video before commenting.
No I agree with you.
+ADoseofBuckley mouthbreathers is like your favorite word isn't it, Buck?
I'm not saying that it's all 20 million that he has made more, but roger also has a major deal with Nike and Jordan, and you know they always bring the big money when they are involved in a deal.
Fun fact and you can look it up women say it them self. Women body don't repair as fast as men and not as strong as men so their sports are kinda like watching college football right actually it less the women soccer team ( professional) got beat by of bunch of 13 year old boys so yeah. Also as far as the racing suit goes women Pretty much see time slower than men or if you want men react faster than women.
Never understood why americans kick around a bucket of sugar on a football arena
Third, the money they earn comes from sponsors by corporations, not exactly the people you'd associate with "caring about the world."
Furthermore these people are literally just making a living the only way they know how to.
