- This is a rundown of every hit song present on the MuchMusic Countdown in 2011. Let's bring some Canadiana to nostalgia playlists! These have been my pet projects for a while because I'm a bit obsessed with old-school MuchMusic/can-con in general.
We are firmly in the early 2010s club boom. Flo Rida, Pitbull and David Guetta are inescapable. Nobody takes themselves too seriously and everything is about having fun, probably exemplified by Party Rock Anthem almost being the hottest song of the year - only second to a talented newcomer named Adele. Meanwhile, indie rock is quickly gaining popularity, both with Canadian acts like Mother Mother and international breakouts like Foster the People. Lady Gaga releases Born This Way. Katy Perry and Rihanna also dominate. That weird crop of Canadian electro-pop-punk bands are still big. There are a shocking number of CanCon radio songs that I only just learned are Canadian.
Presented for archival and reporting purposes under fair dealing/fair use. I am not associated with Much, Bell Media or any record label/media company.
Correction: 5 O'Clock by T-Pain was on the chart until Jan 27, 2012 and peaked at #13.

I’d personally like to give credit where credit’s due when it comes to MuchMusic (or Much at this point in history). They had to the guts to play music videos for as long as they possibly could. Sure, by 2011 it was a lot less than before, and it would only continue to shrink afterwards, but the fact that they still had a substantial amount of hours devoted to their original purpose as recently as 2018 takes major balls for any music channel, especially as MTV completely abandoned videos a whopping *three years* before Much did. Anyone agree with me on that?
Yeah, you're right - they only really totally abandoned ship in the last few years. The tone of production shifted from ChumCity's DIY chaos to a more corporate one around 2007-8 when Bell took over, which turned me off having grown up used to the other way, and as you can see here, their focus became a very young teen audience entirely - but looking back now, I do wish I'd continued watching longer than I did because they were still playing some music. MTV had mostly abandoned music programming even by the early 00s other than TRL and off-hours video blocks, so Much kept at it far longer.
@@Bored-Music Is there anywhere to find MTV countdowns? I forget what the difference between Much Music and MTV is as well lol.

@@Bored-Music The only thing I ever watched on MTV was the movie awards. MTV has always sucked (at least relative to MM), even when they did show music videos. By 2011, I rarely watched MM, mostly the MMVA's, which I adored, and the year end countdown shows.
In 2011, my favorite Sid the Science Kid episode, Sid’s Backyard Campout, debuted on PBS.
Ok, cool, I don't care.
I always come back to these songs because 2011 was one of the years I was together with all my siblings before we got put in foster care, my one little sister has a disability and she used to wake up SUPER early and i would get her from her room when everyone was asleep and would carry her to the living room make a huge comfy blanket bed on the floor and I always had much music recorded and would put it on and listen to it with her while I got more sleep beside her or just layed with her, these songs bring back the best memories of my life. She’s been living in homes ever since, I miss these days more than anything in the world this really takes me back. 🤍
She loves music, and I do too but she really enjoyed listening/watching much music 🤍
Especially Lighters - Bruno Mars, Eminem, Royce, that was like our song 🤍
Wow, that's heavy. I have a little brother adopted from foster care. I'm glad these songs are able to bring you some comfort. Watching Much did the same for me when i was a kid being bullied in the 00s.
Personally 2011 was a pretty depressing year for me, but sorry that you and your sibling got put away at foster care.
Good for Fefe Dobson; she's really holding her own on these countdowns.
Thank you for making this. Brought back some happy memories.

Nickelodeon Sings really ruled 2011 thanks to their second album, Why’d You Force Me to Watch That?.
Rollin in the Deep peaked at #4?!
