I have a rare syndrom called ODDD (me and my mam are the only ones in britain to have it so far) which stands for Oclo, Digital , Dental and Displacia syndrom meaning it affects my hearing as i am deaf in one ear with perferations in both, joints as my fingers are deformed aka not straight and eye sight as i have stigma as well. ever since i was born, 3 months old i think well thats what mam told me, i had 4 operations each year (2 on my hands since they couldn't do both at the same time and 2 on my ears) so i missed alot of school work and couldn't make as many friends sadly. The operations still go till I'm 18 which hopefully is the last one.

That play specialist is incredible! Does anyone know if we have positions like that in the states? I’m a nursing student and I know that we have social workers, but I’ve never come across a specific volunteer/position just for helping calm the children’s nerves with play. What a great idea!!

Always share what’s going to happen to your kids. It’s their bodies and they have a right to know what that doctor’s gonna do. My mom held me down for my five year old shots instead of explaining what was going to happen and I spent the rest of my childhood absolutely terrified of doctors. They can be scared and scream and cry but they still have a right to know what you’re going to do.

So I have watched all series 1 and was hoping one of my medical conditions would be in it. I click on episode 11 and its about Arthritis, which i suffer from. (i left a comment on that video ;) and then this episode was about cleft lip and palates and i was born with a cleft palate. It feels amazing to be able to understand what these children are going through! I have only had 2 operations on my cleft whereas my twin sister has had around 6 or 7.

Plus a surgery on my arm when I was a child after a bad break. I've got a connective tissue disorder that affects my bones (broken around 40 so far (I'm 29) and joints (I'm hypermobile) hence the numerous issues.

@@becklewis9889 I have had loads of ops all my life. I guess I can't fault you for curiosity of what it's like (I assume that is the reason). Although, I would like you to keep in mind that it is not pleasant whatsoever, and what is even worse is living with the condition or incident that meant you needed an operation in the first place. It's like people that tell me they wish they had a disabled parking pass. They wouldn't wish that if they took longer to think about what it really entails.

I was born with a cleft lip and pallet. Back in the 60's my plastic surgeon actually sanded my scar down with sandpaper like material!! Everytime the scab would heal, the scar would be less noticeable! There weren't any lasers back then! I had tubes in my ears, speech therapy, tons of dental and orthodontist work. It was all worth it !!

Stitches definitely suck! I’ve been rather lucky & have only needed them twice. The doctors left my mum remove them at home, she’s a nurse. The 2nd time I didn’t much feel it, I was in too much pain already (passed out & bit through my lip)

I just realised it has been about 2 years since I last had an operation. I feel so strange given I used to get them approximately 2 times a year. Does anyone else who grew up having ops feel odd if you don't have one as often as you usually do? I feel like it's because that was my routine, and not following it now makes me feel a bit lost (I am autistic so I love routines haha). Anyone else?

@@becklewis9889 That's nice but it's ok :) it doesn't bother me that much, and there are plenty of people much worse off. No matter what going on you can pretty much guarantee someone has it worse, and you have something others long for (even something as simple as clean water).
