I feel like FC Pauli won't be coming to visit Detroit City FC again any time soon. Feel like like they are just a "bit" too big for us now to be a good friendly. Glad to see them getting promoted.
This reminds me of the Vancouver Whitecaps. They fall back into the 5-2-3 and leave the middle open on offense, but they keep too many players back and no one is home for pass-backs in the box.
Exactly right. Vancouver's coaching staff has always done a good job of making players believe in the formation and strategies they use. Always an underdog, unfortunately, based on personnel. But I feel they're getting closer to challenging for a championship than they've ever been before.

So often teams who counter-press are automatically assumed to be a pressing team, but as you've shown, that's just not true. By mixing a counter-press with a lower defensive block, St. Pauli essentially force the opposition to deal with different rhythms within a game and that's not so common within football right now.

How he identifies is beside the point, the implication being made is that the US youth/coaching/FA system has something to do with his success and they just don't - the US' version of the FA is a collection of mediocrities mired in nepotism and nearly all of their decent players only got that way playing in Europe. A big part of the reason it is that way is the yanks' inability to acknowledge that they aren't good at something, therefore nothing changes, and claiming a coach whose biggest connection with the US is that his parents pulled some teeth there and went back on vacation a few times is a symptom of that silly view. He's no more American than Balogun.
He has american citizienship only because he was born there. He lived there until he was 2 and then his family returned to Germany. Calling him american in the title is just clickbait and americans being proud of him has the same feeling as those heritage weirdos suddenly being proud of Ireland because they are 12% Irish. As the commenter above already said he got all of his education in Germany and has nothing to do with the american FA, their ways or the country in general.
@@paulie-gBalogun or Yunus Musah... Even the proper Americans we have on the NT many of the good ones spent developmental years in Europe. Not to mention the ones like Dest, Jedi, & CCV. Tyler Adams, Tim Ream, and Tyler Turner are the only proper American products in the current XI to make it to the top 5 leagues. (No time spent developing abroad 0-18)
@@rq7284 .. and Tim Ream isn't good enough to play in the PL, liability and an accident waiting to happen every time I've seen him for Fulham (although I don't watch them that often).
I think we're going to see a flip in tactical thinking that see's the emphasis put on players just reading and playing the game rather than following some rigid tactical system. Almost like the anti-Pep approach,
Very similar to what Pep does though more fluid. Very much like that the total football of the Dutch back in the day.
As soon as I saw your cat, I had to subscribe.
Hi, a small query.
Isn't this what ETH is trying to implement at Utd .?? Atleast in possession.
Sacrificing midfield for numerical advantage in attack.
Counter pressing high up the pitch to win and counter attack high up the pitch ???
Pls let me know if I am wrong.
I can see ETH didn't get the defence and rest defence right .
Nobody sees him as American.
Use your brain slowpoke. It’s for *VIEWS*
Brenden Aaronson and Gio Reyna would be perfect loan options for his system
Would love to see that. I think they’re going to surprise some people next season.
St. Pauli forever ❤
Oh and fck the HSV...
Hire him as USMNT Coach!! This guy is the exact opposite of everything that is wrong about Gregg Berhalter!
Maximizes player potential!
Fluid structure to maximize both offensive AND defensive phases!
Teaches awareness and use of space!
Teaches set pieces - scoring and defending!
Wow, this guy makes so much sense USSF will never hire him!
More likely he'll be the next hottest young coach to hire after Xabi Alonso, and get snapped up by Bayern or BvB, or somebody in the EPL
He is absolutely NOT American 😂 he was born their and directly moved back to Germany
very cool, much thanks.
Whaaaaaat?! Thanks so much Douglas I really appreciate that.
Welcome to Brighton
It's 2010/11 all over again...
Tony Bloom is on RUclips watching videos and then acts like he found unknown gems using AI.
You're welcome Tony and all BHA fans. I visited Brighton last year, lovely town with positively weird people.
It’s not “two Bundesliga”, it’s “second Bundesliga”.
More videos like this! I just shared this video.
The attack somehow looks like basketball
Actually not wrong
He plays chaos football basically or position less play like modern basketball is played
I like the thought that modern basketball and football are sharing ideas
The usmnt should look into this guy
Only "wrong" point about him is that he will not be in the firts Bundesliga next year, but will be in the Premier League with Brighton. But this was not clear at the time you pubblished the video.
Too bad for german soccer not having the chance to see gis team.
He renew his contract just few days before be contacted from Bighton (... or was this a great chess like move?). Brighton paid 10M to free him from St. Pauli, making this the highest amount the team got in trading. And not for a player (this is 5M) but for a manager! 😉
Possession like Ipswich Town
Minute 4:14 FOREVER? XDDDDDD - If he leaver the club, its like always they will go down again6
He won't get away with that in the Prem League
Sounds alot like Louisville City
Man he was born in America but it’s a stretch to call him “American” since it doesn’t seem to be a part of his identity
He has an American flag tattooed on his body bro
It's basketball's tactics to empty the middle field... stand still with the ball and all that stuff...
Great vid
Thanks Shane!
He's barely American. But it's a good idea to claim him anyway because he's dope.
It could be that he was born in the USA, that makes him an American by law, but by feeling, no, father is Swiss, mother is German, only lived there for two years and grew up properly in Germany, in Munich, he has no real roots in America or the mentality, don't take credit for other people's work, no football coach from America had any influence on his tactics or inspired him.
Total football ?!
he isnt american. He is German
Ok 👍
