    I actually really enjoyed valravn. I don't know why a lot of coaster enthusiasts hate on the thing. It's a fun ride and that's all that matters at the end of the day.

    • @calebkeithley
      @calebkeithley 8 лет назад +12

      Completely agreed. I'd give it like an 8 or an 8.5, a 7.5 is a little low. People are for some reason starting to hate on CP a LOT more ever since Taylor reviewed MF.

      JAPORTY its a fun coaster we went to cedar point for the first time me and my dad said the same thing as me...this is a plain copy of sheikra I’m an 11 year old coaster enthusiast so please think before you judge.

    I do think dive coasters are one trick ponies, but that's the point. They aren't like other roller coasters, and they aren't to be! When done right dive coasters are incredible machines, and that can invoke so much fear. Just look at both Oblivions, Baron 1898, and Krake just to name a few. They are complete their job perfectly.
    I think that Valravn doesn't deserve the hate it gets, but missed out on some of the dive coaster perks. A tunnel and evil or scary theme would have served this coaster well.

    The first Dive coaster was Oblivion at Alton Towers. What was impressive was it dived into a hole. I think if a dive coaster is gonna dive, then dive it into something, make it do what most coasters don’t do which is DIVE into something.
    Cedar point does not put a wow factor in any coaster like a tunnel, Ravine (you can make a Ravine. All Ravines are not natural) or a water splash down.

    I talked to an employee at the cedar point express hotel (who seemed like he knew what he was talking about) and his description of valravn was it suffers from new B&M syndrome where it's so smooth it feels forceless
    But I got a first ride of the day front row seat so that was a cool enough experience (second day in a row after I got that on raging bull the day before)

    Taylor before you do your X2 review, you sat in the outer seats, now that makes a big difference. On the inner seats you get less of that banging, and it is much more enjoyable and actually adds up to the intensity, so before you make the review, understand that it is also possible to get a really good ride on it. Its just like skyrush. Its either amazing or average.

    as for the restrains, just dont let them push the restrains so thight! just sit more in front of your seat when closing it. when you are leaving the station you can sit normal and you have enough space for air-time. i do this all the time and it really gives you alot more airtime!

    Taylor, I see what you mean about Valravan being a one trick pony. From a rider or enthusiast stand point, they probably should have added something else. But, I have to say the way they integrated the coaster into the park with a walkway right under the main drop is really cool. My wife would not ride but loved that she could get so close and see people flipping out. I am guessing Cedar Point takes non riders into account when picking a new ride and from a business standpoint it kinda makes sense. Another great example would be the bleachers at TTD, such a cool area for people to watch.

    Their last ground up coaster, and man are they due. I think this coaster made sense because it's a people eater and a generally reliable B&M. (Not for operating year 2022)
    Hoping their next ground up coaster pushes the envelope like almost every coaster built there from 2000-2007

    Rode it for the second time this past weekend, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. First time I rode it I was part of the GP, then when I became an enthusiast I spent much of the past year reading and watching about how overrated this was. As such, I was surprised how much I liked it. Granted, I haven't ridden the other dive coasters, but this surprised me. Great feeling on the drop, amazing weightless feeling on the zero g-roll, and actual ejector on the airtime hill! Short, yes, but I found it enjoyable. It is a cookie cutter ride with redundant elements, and probably shouldn't have gone to CP, but I still underestimated how much I would like it.

    Taylor you're right, they don't let you pick your row on Valravn, or even wait for a row. Weird considering that they let you do that on every other coaster in the park. When I rode it, my group and I requested to wait for front row and we were still told to go to row 2

  • @uprlvl
    @uprlvl 8 лет назад

    Well said Taylor and I agree with all of your points. I've never been on a dive coaster prior to Valravn, so I didn't know what to expect. I was hoping for intensity similar to the 1st generation free fall rides, which some weren't over 120ft tall (i.e. demon drop)....or even gyro drops, but that wasn't the case...Of all the rows ridden, I actually experienced more "airtime" in the back row. Second drop is non existent and the back half of ride seemed way too slow to me. I'm not an extreme coaster person in general, but this just didn't give me the "wow" factor I was hoping for. I'm also not impressed by stats, or how many "records" are broken by a ride. In this case, we're talking a matter of approximately 25ft which is a very small margin. I really believe they could have designed a better dive coaster with more intensity and unique layout. I love B & M, but I'm longing for a balance of more intensity (particularly ejector airtime). I'll have to try Griffon whenever I'm in the Virginia area though.

    There are a few things that I like about Valravn and a lot that I don't.
    What I Like;
    1. The logo
    2. The buildings
    3. The colors
    What I don't like;
    1. The uninspired layout
    2. The fact that it doesn't even TRY to break records (I'll go into detail about that bellow)
    3. The fact that it fails to live up to the standards of Cedar Point
    4. The fact that it looks like an off-the-shelf model that B&M had lying around
    5. The fact that the first half is the exact same as the other large ones
    6. The fact that Cedar Point didn't need a B&M dive coaster
    I'd go as far as to say that Valravn is one of the WORST coasters added this year.
    How much Valravn 'breaks' records;
    1. Length; 195.5 feet longer than previous longest (rcdb.com/3930.htm)
    2. Height; 9.7 feet taller than previous tallest (rcdb.com/4224.htm), it's not even ten feet taller than the previous tallest. That was a missed opportunity for a joke in the parody.
    3. Drop Height; NA as no other large B&M dive coaster has a listed drop height.
    4. Speed; 4 MPH faster than previous fastest (rcdb.com/3631.htm)
    5. Inverts; 1 more invert than previous (rcdb.com/3631.htm)
    I'm sorry but this is pathetic for a 'record-breaking' coaster, Cedar Point can do better. But if the rumors about Mean Streak getting RMC'd are true then this ride makes more sense as it would be a FILLER coaster.
    As for what I feel could bump up the score is this;
    1. Boost the height up to at least 230 feet or 250 feet at most, scale up the drop, immelmen and speed.
    2. Instead of going into the brake run have it go over either an air-time hill or a zero-g-roll over the line and lift hill starting area
    3. Have a second immelmen following that that goes over the exit path and then go into the mid-course.
    4. Not kill so much speed on the mid-course.
    5. Have a near-miss with the Valravn logo on it through the roll facing towards Iron Dragon
    6. Have the air-time hill exit into a spiraling drop around the drop off of the mid-course and make a quasi-helix
    7. Throw a second hill before the brake run
    8. Make the brake run not so steep
    Boom, you have a B&M dive coaster that's more deserving of being at Cedar Point as it would shatter the mold that all of the large ones follow, not waste all of it's speed under a minute after it's reached

    I got a 45 minute wait on Valravn, so I got one of the shortest lines on it (for this year, lines should start to go down for next year). The problem with it was that I was put in the back row, so it wasn't nearly as good as the front row would be, but it was still a decent ride.

    Just so you know, you actually can request a row Evernote if you aren't fastpass. Cedar Fair usually doesn't strictly assign rows, if thy even assign hen.

    I think Valravn is a very fun ride, the vests dont really hurt the weightless feeling too much. The drop is incredible and the 270 degree roll is amazing!(BTW, they let you choose your own seat now

    Are you an enthusiast by the way? I don't think you made it clear. Are you expecting a prize? I have been on over 200 coasters but you won't catch me acting like I am better than someone who doesn't realize there are other B&M coasters in the world or doesn't know Vekoma SLCs & boomerangs have been cloned more than a copy of A Christmas Story. The Dive Loop and Zero-G roll at the end are fantastic and the airtime hill gave me some lift but I do agree with you on the vest restraints. The splashdown? Really? Are you a duck and need water? I like your videos but I would think you, as an enthusiast, would prefer two great elements Griffon doesn't offer over some aqua that frankly does nothing.

    I agree with you. I would rather had seen them buildssomething like Lightning Rod or Goliath than this. This and Banshee were 2 designs that B&M had pretty much haven't built in about 10 years, so when they made these updated version's they did a pretty good job. I prefer Banshee over Valravn though.

    Great Review, only thing I would contest is that the drop feels like the other dive coasters... personally I really was shocked how much more force Valraven's drop seemed to have than Griffon, which I also rode this year.

    This, Yukon Striker, Emperor, Valkyria, Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger, and Iron Menace all break the number 1 rule for dive coasters: Do NOT put vest restraints on dive coasters. Hence, why I like Griffon and SheiKra better.

    I sat in back row twice (and front once) and the hold in the front is pretty awesome, but in the back it's like jumping off a building! You pull down very quick on the top, and I prefer the back on most good CP coasters, especially Maverick and Millennium Force. Do you agree?

    Are dive coaster tracks bigger in width than standard b&m track?

    • @Spooky_Psyche
      @Spooky_Psyche 7 лет назад +1

      I would assume so given the size of the cars, but the track for standard B&M inverts is already so huge I can't even imagine it being much bigger.

      Canada Absolutely. Valravn's track is massively wide (6.5 feet).

    You want to try Oblvion at Alton Towers in the UK. It is bad all you get is a 60ft drop strait down then it disappears underground for ten seconds then after a banking curve strait into the brake run, the ride lasts 30 seconds. All that after a two hour line der.

    • @turkmcturk5604
      @turkmcturk5604 7 лет назад +1

      Andrew Burton-Fullick are you joking? Oblivion was the very first dive coaster, so it won't have any extra elements and oblivion has a drop of 150+ feet! The tunnel is there for a reason, Alton towers has a height restriction

    if you get a group of 8 while waiting in line that agree on which row to sit in, the ride operator will let you take that row to save time trying to fill each row during the loading of the previous train, and ps, back row is where it is at!!

    it's year 1 for this ride, gatekeeper was the same way, I'm giving either end of next year or 2017 that this will be a 30 minute line, I'm expecting this to be about how long the wait for raptor is when the hype calms down. I personally like this more than griffon due to the phenomenal view you get from the 2 drops, griffon is a better "ride" but I feel valravn is a better overall package due to it opening up the blue streak midway which was always a dead end, how much you can walk through the ride through the midway, and you can get some great views from raptor from the midway. also from walking around the park I noticed that in a few areas they cut down a branch from a few trees so you are able to see the first drop from around the whole park and I thought that that was REALLY smart.

      I wish B&M could keep the restraint part of the vest restraints, because I love the shape of the restraint itself, and how it locks at your thighs, but put straps like Intamin did with Mav, Storm Runner, Fahrenheit, etc. It would be a lot more open and would still be safe. I don't get why B&M put huge vests on the new restraint, but, it's beyond me.

    I think that Valravn is a good ride, but with getting a floor less coaster just last year. I think that a B&M flyer would’ve been better, or even a GCI woodie. I still like it though and it’s my sixth favorite coaster
