all great horror actors had a wonderful turn of phrase, voice: Karloff, Lugosi, Lorre, Rathbone, (Price of course), Lee, Cushing, Donald Pleasence, - and they all had a wicked sense of humor. Morgan Freeman's is like stale wonder bread compared to those.
Actors who had a shot at playing a Disney Villain / or other iconic villain : have a shot there as well : Hans Conried, Verna bloom, Eleanor Audley, James Earl Jones (also check out his Thulsa Doom), James Woods, Jeremy Irons, Anthony Hopkins,
they could read the telephone book and it would sell tickets.

Here's a little secret: there are a few things Humor and Horror have in common:
      Timing
      Pacing
      Tension and Release
      Subversion
      Surprise
The two genres appear to be vastly different, but they are as close as Professor Quirrel and Voldemort.

My brother and I were friends with the manager of the Lexington KY opera house in the mid 70’s. He was friends with Vincent Prices PR man. When Price did his one man show “Diversions and Delights” playing Oscar Wilde in Lexington, our friend hosted a dinner party and Price and his PR man came! We all sat around the couch listening to Vincent tell stories. It was a magical night. I have a signed playbill and a signed poster from Price. I will never forget that night!

    • @moeball740
      @moeball740 3 месяца назад +175

I also saw Diversions and Delights bitd! The best story about Vincent Price that I've heard was from Richard O'Brien, who not only played Riff Raff in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but Richard actually wrote the story and the songs. He basically is the creator of the Rocky Horror phenomenon. At any rate, before Rocky Horror became a popular movie, it was a very successful stage production. On opening night in London, however, no one had any idea about how amazing it would be. Richard O'Brien stood in the wings on stage looking out at the crowd in the theater, nervously waiting for the show to start, wondering whether all the work he had put into "his baby" would pay off. The lights went down, here we go! Just then a thunderstorm was going on outside, adding to the ambience, "it was a dark and stormy night". According to Richard, when the house lights went down, the theatre became dark, and just at that moment a flash of lightning happened outside! There was a skylight in the ceiling over the audience, and when the lightning flashed it illuminated a few seats directly underneath the skylight. Richard could easily identify who was sitting there, illuminated by the lightning, and it was none other than Vincent Price! Richard said he smiled at that point and took it as a sign that things were going to work out fine, as if his horror creation had just been blessed by the master of horror himself!

Total class act. Could make you laugh, could scare the daylights out of you. A Master of suspense. Iconic voice. I always admired Mr. Price.

Met him at lunch at Spirit Square in Charlotte NC before his show. Delightful person, and he allowed me to give him a kiss of the cheek.

💖🥲Oh my, that must have been an amazing moment! It brought back a treasured memory of my grandmother telling us how she met Peter Falk in Charlotte!! It was in an elevator & she always got giddy bragging that he let her give him a hug!🥰 I've been a big Columbo fan most of my adult life because of that!💖

@@rushfan1970 You may like a Peter Falk film called "The cheap detective" it's a spoof of the 1930s and 40s detective movies and is very silly (in a goud way).

Except in animation, his voice is what stood out there, Ratigan from The Great Mouse Detective is what I am referring to by the way.

He’s a real character. I didn’t know he was so witty and his humour seems quite English, especially with the irony. Great clip. 😂

One of his best roles which had nothing to do with him being macabre or eerie was a romantic-suspense film called "Laura" with Dana Andrews and Gene Thierney. Check it out (if you haven't already).

    Thank you, Mr Price. 😊
