A new Firestick update brings a new feature called "Automatic Offload". This removes apps when storage is low, but how exactly does it work, and should you turn it ON or OFF? You can find out more in this video.

I wish I could uninstall some of the Amazon apps on the firestick I don't use.
It would be nice to uninstall unused apps like Amazon shopping , Amazon photos Etc. The ones that come pre-installed and never use
You can it's a bloatware app. I got rid of all of them except App Store, Including FreeVee and Amazon Prime
Considering side loaded apps aren't affected at least they got that right
The obvious way to avoid running out of storage is to acquire more storage, which might be why I haven't seen this bodge on the new 16GB Firestick. Maybe they're not going to offer it on this version because they think storage won't be a problem?
I've always thought 8GB was a pitifully small amount of storage for these devices, particularly as it always seemed to be at least threequarters full. Adding an external USB thumbdrive using an adaptor does work but they don't let you transfer all aps to it, only some of them. 16GB built-in storage is much neater.

Hi Tanya and thanks for another very informative video. I'll turn it off on my devices because I don't have space issues. But if I were to leave it on, I wonder what happens when a new version of an offloaded app becomes available and the app is then restored.

Excellent point! While I recently gave my now 1st gen 4k Max stick to a relative, with that device it's so much easier & cheaper to expand storage on the Max & Cubes via an otg cable & your choice size of a thumb drive.
if Amazon would just do what Google does with there Google TV platform, storage wouldnt be an issue! you can go into developer options and set force all apps to external storage ignoring the developers settings.
I don't have the option to ither one. what I have is just check for Updates. but is alright I going to purchased the 4k max soon. thank you.

I have a fire 4K max and have not noticed this feature yet on my fire stick and I check for updates everyday.Mabe it's because I live in Canada that I do not have this feature yet not sure.
Turned off straight away when it arrived on my cube 2nd gen. Can't see the point of having apps I've never used not effected by this and then it offloading the major streaming apps as like many others I rotate monthly. They should look at sorting out the home screen, what use is only being able to add 6 apps. I'm sure if people can load an app they can remove one if they need the space. I assume this is using some memory to be on the device.
I found this 2 weeks ago and had to hunt for this because it was the first thing I seen when I started my Fire Device!
If Amazon would stop adding their apps that takes your space since you purchased the Fire Device or are we just renting/leasing the Fire Device(s)?! Like one uninstall is there, Amazon music. I don't have kids or should I say 56 yr. old kids. I'm thinking of buying another that free of control!

yeah they need an app that makes the firestick barebones. It's not a small drive, but the OS and Bloatware apps take up like 95% of the drive, makes no sense. I feel this is a good band aid fix though.
I have a highsense Google Tv and I can downloader more apps than I could with the Firestick.

Actually Amazon's system apps and garbage bloatware uses approx. 33% of their claimed storage!
Notice that I don't use the word 'only,' because this is still WAY TOO MUCH!
Amazon's greed and disrespect for their customers is growing more and more outrageous everyday!
This new 'benefit' (as they would undoubtedly call it) is yet another imposition on their customers. Did they forewarn us? Ask our opinions?
NO! Like always, they just do whatever TF they want!
They don't care if the bombardment of ads and undesired, useless apps ruins the streaming experience for us and makes the devices work more poorly than is necessary.
This latest 'feature' is only there so they can KEEP THEIR BLOATED CR*P IN OUR FACES (and thus, collecting the advertising revenue), and hopefully reduce the wave of the newby complaints, when their Fire devices start malfunctioning due to non-sufficient storage!
They think if we (Amazon) automatically (aka, 'sneakily') OFFLOAD desired apps while you're not paying attention (even if infrequently used), then they will POSTPONE the devices' inevitable glitching (due to THEIR insufficient storage!) and thus, reduce complaints ... and thus, SELL MORE UNDERPOWERED DEVICES!
This is the Amazon equivalent of the old 'shell game' (or '3-card Monty'). "Look over THERE, while we continue to screw you over HERE!" ... and you should like it!

I shut it off the minute It got installed, My internet is not that fast and I don't feel like waiting around for an app to be reinstalled just so I can use it, it works just fine the way it is

Is there any way to delete Amazon preloaded apps if you don't use them such as Amazon Music, Kids, Photos or Prime Videos?
There are some helpful RUclips channels out there that can guide you through this task. I don't have any videos about this on my channel, sorry.
When the new feature appeared one day on both of my Firesticks (different TVs), I saw this as a positive step, until I started worrying about my sideloaded apps, and what info Amazon might be harvesting from users by doing this. So, I turned both off initially. But when I read that sideloaded apps are "ignored" (are they really?), I decided to turn it on for a while and see what happened. (I've always been curious about which apps I wasn't using much.) Anyway, for both Firesticks, the feature was totally GONE when I opted to turn it back on. TOTALLY GONE... no matter which options I tried (which you nicely summarize in this video). It's gone without a trace. So, presumably a subsequent OS update removed it. Or, maybe it's auto-removed if you turn it off??? Here one day, gone the next! FYI, I'm in Canada and my current OS is 7.6.6.4. What I've said applies to both my 4K Max and my older 3rd gen FireTV stick. Oh, and I do have external USB storage attached to both.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but there was another overnight OS upgrade/tweak and AUTO OFFLOAD is back! No explanation for its disappearance... just the splash screen with a description of what it's all about, just like the first time! And turned ON by default. I'm still nervous about having it ON until there's a proven track record, but I guess I'll keep it ON for now. I have external USB storage anyway, but I have an indirect agenda... I want it to automatically let me know which apps I'm NOT using, so I might consider uninstalling them in the future.

I had mine "ON" since the update and haven't noticed anything different. Maybe because it offloads apps when storage is low... I have well over 2G's of space available so it probably hasn't done anything yet?🤷♂
Yes, you're right. That's how it works. It should only offload apps when storage is low.

It is being slowly rolled out. It could take weeks, or maybe even months. Amazon are slow with pushing out updates.
I'm using a 2nd Generation amazon cube and I just got the new update today and I turned off this
I turned off this option I don't want Amazon to have that type of control it would be nice if they would give us the option to uninstall their bloatware apps just my opinion or at the very least offload them
Turned mine off because it was offloading my VPN as I don’t have many app’s currently downloaded. My available space is 412 mb . The Amazon apps are taking up a lot. Anything I can do to gain more space? I’ve even added a flash drive with an OTG Cable but unfortunately can’t add the Amazon apps to it.

I got the notification that this feature had been installed on the FS. I decided to leave it On. The next time I used the FS, my VPN, IP Vanish, was not there. Had to reinstall.... I then turned that feature Off ! 😂😂

Check for updates by going to Settings > My Fire TV > Check for/Install Updates. If the update does not install, it has not yet been rolled out to your device. Keep checking periodically.
The updated actually deleted a part of my own kodi build, couldn't believe this as if It keeps doing this myself n other people will not buy amazon streaming devices.

@@FireTVSticks Hi Tanya, It wouldn't let me put back the background picture on the Amber kodi skin, had to switch skins for a couple if things to work so basically had to re-do the interface, I've never had this before or even after an update.
Why don't they just ship the stick with more memory ffs
It's clear that this offloading feature is a very poor substitute or mitigation for a device that has woefully little inbuilt storage capacity ! 8 GB for a device if this kind , even on very recent firesticks is derisory and inadequate! Sadly no firmware update will. fix that issue . S change if attitude is clearly called for by Amazon when installing features on future models instead of their parsimony and efforts to make economies at our expense !!

good morning, I have a question: I am now using the firestick on an Android TV at the campsite. Now we are going home and then I want to use the firestick on my Samsung smart TV, Tizen. I am unable to get the firestick to work on the Samsung smart TV. Now I read somewhere that you have to update the firestick and then you can use it. is this correct? if so, how should I do this? do I do this on the android tv? because the firestick does not open on the Samsung smart TV. I'd love to hear your advice. Thank you in advance. Marianne
There should not be any issues using the Firestick on your Samsung TV. Perhaps there is a problem with the HDMI port? When you say it does not open, have you switched the TV source to the HDMI? How are you powering your Firestick?
@@FireTVSticks Hi, the firestick runs on an HDMI cable that I also use for the Formular Z7+ and I connect it via the plug.
When I turn on the firestick I see the logo, but then nothing.

@@FireTVSticksOn the Internet I read the following: Someone moved the fire stick from another brand to the new Samsung.
He discovered that when you move a Fire Stick from one brand of TV to another, you need to update to get the latest version AFTER you reset the Firestick to the new brand. I had updated just before we moved, but it appears that the brand of TV the firestick is attached to may affect the update features/settings.
After running the update the firestick worked fine. But I don't understand this! what would he mean by reset the firestick? maybe you. I would like to hear if this is an option!

Yea, I think this is crappy as they shut down my VPN and I use it all the time. They could have shut down all the stupid Amazon apps that I never use and can't uninstall them.
