I also have to travel back to Bayreuth and also Venice for the second episode on Wagner. I originally planned to create a sequel, however, it seems I have misplaced my other footage. All the best,
40 years ago I first saw the Ring on TV, the Patrice Chereux production conducted by Boulez. I was hooked immediately and was always frustrated not to have more of a tour around the pit, backstage and auditorium, the mechanics of which were as fascinating as the music-drama. And next year, finally, I have tickets to see the Ring in Bayreuth. Bucket list ticked off. 😀
Many thanks for this good documentary. When I listened to his music first time, I was eighteen years old. And I decided to learn German. At the end I have to mention a small thing. It is not "Leitmotif" but "Leitmotiv".
A very good documentary about one of my favorite composers. Thank you very much! I enjoyed every minute of it! And looking forward to visit Bayreuther Festspielhaus.
Dear DL Huo, Thank you very much for your kind words. I appreciate them! I am planning a second part for this story. I have filmed most of it in Bayreuth and Venice already but time is very limited to continue editing. Under the current circumstances of the music world and as a freelance musician, I am having to share many other videos only through Patreon. www.patreon.com/HitTheRoadCulturalJourneys I would appreciate it if you could subscribe to my RUclips Channel and thank you in advance. All the best,
Thank you very much for your kind remarks. I planned to create a sequel however, it seems I have misplaced my other footage. I might have to travel back to Bayreuth and Venice for the second episode on Wagner. All the best,
Very charming, engaging account of Wagner's life and influence. Great story-telling, skillfully illustrated. Love the scope of the narrative, which covers political history, design, culture, music, architecture-wonderfully done.
Thank you very much. I am happy to hear you enjoyed the video. I would be very happy if you check out some of my other videos and even share with people, who might enyoy them, too. Best wishes,
Thanks for this excellent presentation. Just one small comment: the orchestral pit does have an air conditioning since a couple of years ago. But for auditors it’s still the same ordeal when it’s hot outside.
Dear Oliver, thank you very much for the kind words and also the update about the AC in the pit. I appreciate it. Have you checked out the second part of this series? All best,
Wagner was the only major European composer who was highly influenced by Indian philosophy like most German intellectuals of !9th century at the time. He has interpreted in his works such as Lohengrin, Tristan, Parsifal and his famous opera Ring of the Nibelungs besides he has also written extensively in his prose works about India from where European civilization originates. Wagner’s brother in law Herman Brockhaus was a well known professor of Sanskrit at Leipzig University from whom Wagner gained lot of knowledge on Indian philosophy. Wagner besides being a composer, he was a polymath. Finally I would like to add that Wagner's writing Total Work of Art was inspired by NATYASHASTRA 2nd century BCE is a Sanskrit treatise on Art, Architecture, Dance, Drama and Music. Finally Wagner's genius will never be surpassed his name will remain paramount on the cultural map of the world for a long time to come until someone of his caliber comes along to change it which in my opinion is very doubtful.
There is no such thing as Aryan civilization the word Aryan in Vedic term means a person belonging to Noble class which has been misinterpreted by the West. Wagner and Notable German Indologists of 19th century have written about this.
@NJP-Supremacist Wagner believed that the White race sprung from India and then wandered into Europe. BTW: that film in your profile picture is AWFUL and they stole Wagner's music for it!
@@whothoughtthiswasagoodidea - Yes, BCE - Before Christian Era, or Before Common Era. Get an education before you mock others. Indian civilization is very old, preceding Christian Era by several thousand years.

I was born 15 years too late. I always wanted to go experience Wagner in Bayreuth when I was a child in the 80's. But now that you don't have to get in line for tickets for years, I have absolutely no intention of going. The productions are just rubbish compared to the times when I was younger.
Thank you for your interest in my video. I certainly understand your sentiments about current productions. Unfortunately, the same could be said for so many other things in our world now from movies to concerts to stage productions. Regards,
Wagner was a very great and influential composer, and his music should be celebrated, but his anti-Semitic beliefs should also be noted, however music and politics should be seperated
Thank you for your comment. I try to keep politics out of my videos, but because of his of that I named him a controversial composer! I am working on the second part of my Wagner videos, which I filmed in Bayreuth and in Venice. I hope you follow and subscribe to my channel. I am trying to reach 1000 subscribers and would appreciate your support. Thank you in advance and all the best!
The 3rd of the great B, Brahams was not lover of Wagner's music. He harkened back to Mozart and Scarlatti and preferred his orchestra 50 instruments, natural horns and trumpets. Listen to a recording of his symphonies played as he wanted instead of the string dirge fest wangerianism did to them.
He was certainly a genius, but his political views were poisonous. I have only fully grasped that Wagner was a (superior) precursor to the Nazis after reading Cosima Wagner's diaries. The philosophy behind the vulgar Nazi movement and the more sophisticated Wagner was pretty much identical. Despite all this I can not regret Wagner existed, as his work is far too magnificent.
Thank you very much for your input and suggestion@@williamstephens9945 . I actually like controversial better too. I will certainly adjust the title. Best,
Magnificent work and dedication for Master Wagner! Thank you Sir! 🙏
Thank you very much for your interest and kınd words Mihai! Greetings to București! 🙏
Also heard in this video: Prelude to Act 1 of Lohengrin.
🎹 I attended performances at Bayreuth in 1998 and 1999. I have a wonderful picture of me with Wolfgang Wagner, Wagner's grandson.
Love Bayreuth. Was there 1969, 1979, 1998.
Thank you for your comment! Have you seen a production at the Festspielhaus?
I’ll be returning this aug for the Ring and Parsifal after a 3 year absence. So excited to be back in gorgeous and friendly Bavaria.

I agree with you. I would also have liked to have seen the pit and the backstage. Enjoy your Bayreuth experience! That's great!
Wow... What a great and well done video. It really made me understand Wagner and The Ring cycle its influences and remarkable history.

Oh and I forgot incest as a theme.
I am not sure what you mean by your comment. Do you mean he was incestuous? If so, to whom do you refer?

The guy was a complete jerk but an absolute, undeniably musical genius.
And the nazis loved Wagner too.
it's a shame that his music has been linked irretrieveably with the Nazis.
Bayreuth is not in northern Germany
Please listen more carefully! In no place do I say Bayreuth is in northern Germany in this video. I say "Bayreuth in Northern Bavaria, Germany". 00:27
Neither is Bavaria where Bayreuth is located! Who said it was "north"?

One cannot talk about Wagner without mentioning his rabid antisemitism.
wagner is not "notorious" - you and yor channel are...
Thank you for your comment. But I am curious what makes you say that. Have you actually watched the video?
"Notorious" is not the right word. Controversial maybe, but "Notorious" is just an overstatement.
