Played every souls game beaten every souls game if you are bad at the game then yeah your gonna have tough time against magic but all sorcerys are super simple to dodge carian slicer is the best sorcery

Against good players, magic is an "afterthought". Essentially something you use "as opportunity arises". Against weaker players, it is dangerous as crap. Especially with very high casting speed on the lower end spells. At those points, I can basically machinegun projectiles at you and if your Stamina isn't enough, I'll effectively burn you down and keep you from even dodging. It's just a matter of how many points you've thrown into it or not. If you have a very good amount of points into it, I can't do much except swap to a sword. If you don't have a lot of points into it, then prepare to be peppered with machinegun blasts of basic spells until you die. Also, terrain plays a lot into how effective magic will ever be. Wide open areas make magic less useful. Tight corridors and small rooms make it EXCEPTIONALLY viable.
exactly. If a mage sees someone take out a spell-parrying shield, then watches them parry a spell back at them, then continues to mindless spam their spells anyway, they probably deserve the counter-nuke coming their way.
Need to throw Carian Retaliation in there as well. Carian Retaliation can probably parry itself, and The Erdtree Greatshield can probably reflect Carian Retaliation. But can Carian Retaliation parry Golden Retaliation?

First invasion was so no brainer on the mage’s end. He was watching his spells get actively deflected back as missiles and he still chose to continue spamming spells, proof that even post patch the shield is good, if not meta
The Erdtree Greatshield is every strength build’s wet dream. Finally a way to reliably deal with magic casters who keep their distance. I was loving invading with it at 180. So much magic.
Oh man since i started testing spell parrying with the carrian riposte parry ash and this shield it’s become my favorite thing. Parrying the moonveil back at people is beyond satisfying. Glad to see Chase the master beating wholesale ass with it.
It's too bad that it's bugged. Honestly it's the only reason I don't use it against players: The projectiles do not show up for players, so they'll just get oneshot by it without realizing it.
I still think it needs a nerf. Instead of scaling off enemy spells damage it goes off shield damage. Using it on a +24 carian shield literally let me end shot people with 55 vigor.
15:52 man I've always known Chase to have insane reaction times but he responded to this attack practically instantaneously. I played it back at 0.25 speed and Chase screams the moment the attack enters the screen. I'm convinced he has lizard eyes or something. Only Chase could demonstrate this much skill by getting hit
He definitely heard it going off, before the attack landed, which gave him like a half second to react the way he did lol For those that don't know, we react faster to sound than we do to visual stimuli.

I've had Chases stream playing in the background and I've caught myself subconsciously reacting to spell casting sounds when I hear them in his video while I play. The other day I rolled while nothing was near me cause I heard glint blade on his livestream, another time I heard an attack then 180° my screen thinking I was being attacked. Made me feel alittle crazy 😂 We really do react to sound first and it is pretty neat.
@@rubbun definitely. What makes it so impressive though is the fact that Chase's reaction happens around about 15-20ish frames into the moonveil's animation (after audio occurs). Even with the brain processing audio cues much faster than visual ones, such a reaction takes tons of training to pull off unconsciously, yet moonveil hasn't been around for that long. All that whilst preoccupied too! I'd love to see Chase get into fighting games because some of the fastest moves in them only have a 20ish frame startup and are tough to react to.
Watching your seamless weapon swaps at the best times to adapt to your situation is so clean lol, I find it so funny when you’re outnumbered and you’re like “I’ll just bring out the anti mage 9000 real quick”
I love this shield, it’s the biggest No U you can possibly pull off. I remember the first time I succesfully used it and I killed the guy and without hesitation yelled “Return to sender!”.

I personally enjoy wizard, 15:03 shows a great use of Chase's skill. I truly believe chase is one of the best. spacing timing and knowledge of each weapon. Take it easy on the host during a 3/1 so you can get each kill in order...then finish off the host after 3/1 or 4 or 5 or 6 summons later. truly a mastery of the invaders' craft
@@lag00n54 I thinks it's mainly cause it's heavy and has str and faith requirements making it only usable for high endurance str builds that put some points or talismans in faith. So it's really good and you'll see people using it from time to time, but only 2 builds out of the many varieties can use it
That's it, I'm breaking my 3-game-long streak and doing a greatshield playthrough. Between Guard Counters and awesome offensive Greatshield weapon arts, I have to play them; anti-mage capability is just a plus. Gotta go level my Fingerprint, One-Eye, and Ertdree shields.

I dipped 2 faith for a pve spell/panic inducer and this shield in my str int build and I quite enjoy sending moonveils back. I think im done invading for now though, gonna up the soul level finish the game and make a new character. I have a few builds in mind.
As someone who really loves int/fth hybrids, I'm glad this exists. Magic should have a hard counter, especially when it's so good. I'm honestly suprised there is no "Vow of silence" kind of spell though, but I might be wrong.
Eternal darkness absorbs spells so its basically a better vow of silence.(they can still use non-projectile spells tho) its also a 35 int spell instead of being a faith spell. Faith users do get barrier of gold so they also have counter to mages.
I've always thought chase was like the other soulsborne players... Good but definitely uploads highlights/wins. Until I watched a full stream the other day and realized all he does is win... HE NEVER LOSES. I watched some archives after and again HE NEVER LOSES. O.O. He gud.

If there was one feature I am sad I did not get to enjoy in DS3 it was the Mound Makers invasion style. I love the idea of invading, killing all the enemies, dancing around the host (Channelers Trident OP, plz nerf) and then peacing out to confused thanks.

You can Erdtree parry rock throw too, as long as it's a projectile. Some things you still take damage for AND parry it at the same time, but it still works :)

I love the use of magic in this game, the way Attunment isn't a stat, the way even the cheap low stat spells are ALWAYS useful, the way both sides of magic and non magic all have counters to eachother and their selves, I like how even with all of this magic, Non Magic can still use items to simulate magic for both sides! This shit just feels like the variety Dark Souls 2 gave us, but with an even cleaner coat of pain. I’m a DEX/FAI build, with an emphasis on frenzy flame and fire dps, and also pulley crossbow with sleep and rot bolts. People don’t know wtf to do when I start whipping out a billion different tools and weapons.

powerful spell spamming for example. you really need a good sense of timing and have to know which spell would shine in which situation.
Perfect example in that first invasion. Dude just threw out a comet when Chase was standing still right infront of him baiting a spell

I'd any projectile spells/incantation/skills but take it with a grain of salt
This is why you run sorcery with a carian retaliation ash of war shield, they never expect the reversal to their own reversal

If you want a spell for your miracle build placidusax's ruin is strong for trades and finishes up close, the intitial explosion comes out really damn fast its like a wog
I’m a DEX/FAI build, with an emphasis on frenzy flame and fire dps, and also pulley crossbow with sleep and rot bolts.
People don’t know wtf to do when I start whipping out a billion different tools and weapons.
