There's no grass in underground, Papyrus claims he remembers grass before coming to snowdin, yet he doesn't know what sun is.... That is strange. There's grass in Deltarune, but you'd think he would have seen the sun already if he's from Deltarune...
Unless it’s a joke about how deltarune papyrus(assuming he actually is in deltarune’s world, with Toby we really can’t be sure of anything) stays in his and sans’ house 24/7
Exactly what i thought, I like the Deltarune theory but that wouldnt make much sense, unless papyrus literally never went out of the house and just looked through the windows sometimes?
Maybe there will be a joke about how, since he’s always inside in Deltarune, he’s never seen the sun.
That's because he's a gamer, so he never leaves the basement during the day. Why do you think Sans wants us to hang out with him? (And why Papyrus doesn't show up the next day lol)

The idea of memories is such an interesting plot point in Deltarune and Undertale, but I don't think we quite understand exactly how. Details like the photo in Sans' lab saying "Don't Forget", Goner characters seeing worlds in which nobody remembers they exist, and even Onion-San trying to remember a melody from the bottom of the water near town. It would seem as if they aren't supposed to remember something, but what, and why? And why is it so crucial that Sans keeps a note reminding himself not to forget? Who is with who in the dark?

IMO The first four lines of don’t forget describe when the knight and Kris have opened more dark fountains, and the light world fading from memory. The light is hope/determination, and that is with the player in the dark.
i dont want to be matpat but we have a strong guess about how gasters shattering caused him to be forgotten and how memoryheads are actually amalgams "not body" leftovers so i think it might be related to that.
@@Kai-qx7vg maybe, but even if that turns out to be true, that doesn't really answer ANY of the questions I proposed regarding this element of the game's story. It just adds more things to the list that we don't fully understand how it connects to everything else in the list.
People are suspecting that it could just be referring to during the Kickstarter for Undertale, Papyrus and Sans were in a void with green grass. I do hope that isn't the case though, as I like the theory on how Sans and Pap are from the Deltarune universe originally

The kickstarter theory is unlikely because of a lot Sans’ dialogue is about how his home is a place he can’t go back to, yet the kickstarter room just seems to be the beginning of the game, a place he could probably just teleport to. Even if he couldn’t, why would he want to go back to some random room?

Yeah, I would deffinetly add that. I mean he didn't worked on Undertale for soo long (sorry I don't know how long) for some random speed runners to go though whole game in hour and be like "Heh, easy.". And yeah that would be soo funny to see Sans casually eating icecream. I'm no speed runner and I would try to go throug game as fast as I can just to see this, otherwise I like to just slowly enjoy it. 😊

There is a good chance that the "green grass" which Papyrus is referring to could be that one patch of grass him and Sans were standing on during the Kickstarter for Undertale. Very far fetched, but still not too far off.

That’s unlikely, because Sans has a line saying that he “gave up trying to go back a long time ago” which would be weird if the place he was trying to go back to was… a random room at the beginning of a game.

Another interesting lore [non-]drop is the revelation that chapter 3 won’t be very story-heavy, which goes against a lot of people’s assumptions that it would focus on the Dreemurr family history

I really want to see the dreemurr family story in deltarune honestly
I mean, it could still drop some important information about them. There just won't be too much of a focus on it. At the very least, we'll clearly learn some strange things about them, since Chapter 4 will have Susie remark how weird they are. Perhaps we'll get to see Toriel be a party animal.
I expect Toby to save most of the big guns regarding them for later, though. In particular, the truth of what happened with Asgore may be a better fit for a chapter in his own house.
that's the thing tho.... the story is about the Dark Worlds, the Knight, and the Roaring.
while stuff about the Dreemurrs would, in this context, fall more into character-building. It's not about the plot of the story, but how Kris came to be the quiet loner that they are at the start of the game
that is to say... idk if "not story based" is the same as "not about the Dreemurrs"
To be fair, he also said that the City from Chapter 2 would be very small, and it ended up being one of the biggest areas in the game. I think he might be saying that to just lower expectations a bit. We're not gonna get Kris' life story, but Chapter 3 might still provide a decent bit of insight into their character.

The sans ice cream cutscene would’ve been perfect for the genocide route since it’s totally in character for sans to take a whole minute off the players run to make them as miserable as possible
One of the earlier questions in the Papyrus interview was "How would you feel if you knew a friend was keeping something from you?", and Papyrus completely misinterprets the question, not really answering it. Maybe this is a hint, and when applying it to the last question, maybe Sans knows what their lives were like before Snowdin, but is keeping it from Papyrus.
Man they should just drop chapter 3 when it's done. I understand if toby has concerns but if he were to do a poll on the website, I'm sure most fans will love to have Chapter 3 once it's completely done. In fact, knowing toby and how unceremonious all his release date drops are (just to catch us by surprise), I wouldn't be surprised if we have these chapters earlier than we expect
Toby has already decided to not release each new chapter, one by one, and rather, finishing development of multiple chapters, then sell them to Deltarune players. As we have confirmation that the chapter 3 and onwards we'll have to pay for. Chapters 1 and 2 being the free ones. Honestly, I'll pay for them when they release, not only because I want to see what happens next in Deltarune, but also because I respect Toby greatly.

@@zigazav1 he said the same thing when he released the survey chapter 1 demo, that the rest of the chapters wont be free and will be released all together....but then he just released chapter 2 just because.

Finally, it's been confirmed...Papyrus does indeed touch grass.
As cool and interesting it would be if Sans and Papyrus were from Deltarune's universe, but I kinda hope that they're from somewhere else, somewhere new. Plus in Deltarune Sans said that he and Papyrus moved in from somewhere too, just like how in Undertale they randomly showed up in Snowdin. We might find out when Deltarune is fully released, or even see a new game in the future that's a part of a Undertale/Deltarune trilogy and maybe get to see where Sans and Papyrus came from. Most likely some sort of "prequel" or something.
Can't wait for the full third game of the multi verse in 2040!

I honestly feel like Toby should do one chapter at a time. It is better for marketing.

Toby and team should take as much time as they need. No one but the more impatient actual children think rushing this is a good idea. It is a well crafted gem in the making that we will all be looking back on in the future. That being said, this is taking an awfully long time. So unless chapter 4 and 5 are half the size of 3 their simultaneous release can't be expected until 2025. But considering how much Toby resonates with the fans I would be shocked if 3 wasn't released stand alone late this year or early next year.
Unless the complex interactions he spoke of were some really out there meta accounting good stuff. Which might mean that kind of work has now been mostly figured out for future chapters. Regardless, here's to waiting for one of the most enjoyable and wild rides of any game or fandom I have ever been apart of.
I definitely agree that releasing them one by one is a better move. It helps build hype and allows fans to speculate and make theories as each chapter releases.

While I do agree they shouldn't rush anything to be finished sooner, the next part of the game possibly not releasing for another 4/5 years could do some harm, if not more than any good, simply due to the possibility that a very long wait kills off excitement/hype that people had coming off chp 2, especially if Chapter 3 is only being finished up *now*
@@OriginalGameteer For sure that is what will happen. But as far as I know Toby made enough off Undertale and his other work to comfortably fund his small team for years to come. So if anyone was ever going to spend all the time in the world polishing a perfect product. it would be Toby with Delta rune.
But he really does care about the fans and explicitly mentioned upon chapter 1's release that he would cease development and reveal the plot if it went longer than 7 years. And is why he released chapter 2 as a standalone, despite that not being his original plan.
So unless he is sure chapter 4 and 5 can be finished for Halloween 2024. I am strongly expecting a finished standalone chapter 3 at the end of this year or very early 2024.
I think the final Papyrus question is actually in reference to the Undertale Kickstarter. They're "beginning" was laying on lawn chairs that were placed on a grass pile. It wouldn't be unlike Toby to make a meta joke like that, so I'm believing thats what it is.
It IS in character for Toby to make a joke like that, however I feel like if that was the case, he wouldn't have cut it off just at "green grass".
@@cultofmel That is true...however, if Papyrus had seen the green grass before, he also would have seen the sun. The thing is, he doesn't know what the sun is in the true pacifist ending of Undertale. Now, you could say that he only looked out during the night, not much to back up that it couldn't have but it would be very specific.

Sans lied to get Papyrus to try new things or Papyrus' well being. So convincing him the sun was Hotlands is within reason as being from the surface might cause uneeded tension. Papyrus has only been indoors so far and the Roaring would shroud the world in Darkness.
I think the “green grass” thing is a reference to the kickstarter reward tier video where Sans and Papyrus are standing on a patch of green grass

Agree, though paying for single additional chapter every time when game update will drop sounds like pain. You know, because Toby said he want to get money from it and that's why he decided to make us wait longer and drop chapter 345 in pack.

@@osianosohzrz Umm, if you mean that we would have to pay full price for "whole" game but we could play only finished chapters then that sounds as bad as paying for every single addition. In my mind that would be like paying full price for pants but getting it in pieces. It's better to pay for packes when it comes to games, forcing players to pay for "whole" game that is actually unfinished only makes them hate on it. You know, people always like to get what they payed for and at least making us pay for pack 345 (including 1 and 2) is honest. We will only get this much so why should we overpay for something that dosen't exist yet.?
another thing linking to the sans and papyrus can jump between universes theory is in undertale, the word search that papyrus gives you is actually from ice es (like the restaurant in deltarune) and in the word search the really long word that isn’t actually in the puzzle is in deltarune chapter 2 in the cyber word near the beginning we’re you have to spell it out in the word puzzels

Something, while not really important at all is actually the kickflips thing.
The description sounds somewhat similar to what he actually does near the end of his fight, at least in some regards.
This could imply that it could be more of a elaborate prank/joke rather than just flying through the air, but both could make sense.
Also, the grass could be referrencing new home, as it's the monster capital, and at the least has asgore's garden, so there's likely more grass around it than that, or some location in waterfall, being that it contains sea-grass.
Snowdin also has a lot of space, so there's a chance there's also grass there somewhere, though probably wouldn't be snowdin.

Well the deltarune theory does actually have a bit of real life lore behind it considering the fact that Bonetrousle was the deltarune battle theme. So Papyrus was in some sense from deltarune before undertale.
I imagine Sans just hearing the last question and kinda rushing just to end entire question and interview because he wants it to be secret. And i do believe "Sans and Paps are from Deltarune timeline" theory by the way, i really hope it turns out to be true. like, imagine Sans traveling to the underground while Paps has amnesia or something and barely remembers Hometown and that's how he doesn't even remember how Sun looks like.
I'd honestly rather pay for chapters individually and get more of a consistent flow of content than wait for three entire chapters to be finished.

At this rate we’re not gonna be getting the new chapters until 2035 if chapter 3 is only just now being finished. I can always appreciate taking time to make something really good (take for instance the Spider-Verse movies,) but it feels like progress on these chapters is incredibly slow. I’m kinda hoping Toby and the team just release Chapter 3 so we can play it while they work on 4 and 5. Cause waiting for another multiple years might just cause more people to lose interest. Only so much time can pass with people waiting for new content before they finally get tired of waiting and just tune out altogether.

The entire dletarune 2 chapters literally take around 4 hours to finish and like 3 hours if you dont really interact with stuff
At the end of the newsletter there is a line "Can you belive it is already autumn". Most of us belives that the next chapter might be out around autumn, so does this line inplicate that he will release chapter 3 seperatly, sometime this summer?
At the very least they are from another world. But seeing as how no other world has been given relevance it would have to be Deltarune.
Interesting to note is that given this strong hint, Sans or papyrus might be the 'man from the other world' the river person speaks of.
While Gaster is presented to have been a regular resident of the underground before being scattered across time and space. Unless he too suddenly appeared one day.
EDIT, forgot to finish. Which means there is still a good chance Gaster is not necessarily a skeleton. Or at least not in the same way Sans and papyrus are.

Honestly this makes a lot of sense really, The Skeleton Bro's just popped up out of nowhere one day in the Underground y'know? They weren't even part of the World itself, When you combine the fact that Papyrus has seen the Sun before, And Sans says he gave up trying to go "Back" a long time ago "Said during his Genocide Fight" It hints that they got teleported from Deltarune's World over to Undertale's one, Amazing stuff really.
See one thought I had, And was planning on typing out here but scrapped due to not making sense in some areas, Is that Gaster was the one to send them over to Undertale, I'm just not sure now how that really works...
Maybe somehow when Gaster fell into the Core he got teleported over to Deltarune? Only to try and make something to go back, And accidentally got Sans and Papyrus sent their instead? Either that... Or Deltarune's Gaster just knew there were other versions of himself in different worlds, Who knows? It was an interesting thought I had though lol...
My theory is that like kris, frisk’s heart shaped object isn’t there soul but the player possessing them ( evidence is that frisk sometimes speaks on their own free will in pacifist routes) and Gaster, through sans and Papyrus, is following them to keep the player from destroying the world and moving on to the next. The problem is papyrus’ personality is very social and becomes attached to the world he’s in. This is why he has a hard time remembering his past. Gaster has to do more work to get him from place to place. That or I saw a theory that the skeleton bros are just Gaster’s left and right side of his brain and papyrus might just have a bad time remembering through the timeline jumps.

I think Toby should release the chapters at least a week apart, give the internet time to digest before the next one (I know I’ll be worried about missing the secret boss or whatever is there if I have to more on to the next chapter as to not be spoiled)
I think that they use to Live in Deltarune but for what ever reason (most likely gaster tbh) were sent to the world of undertale. but Papyrus was to young to remember while sans remembers most everything. In the genocide run sans says " I gave up trying to go back a long time ago. And getting to the surface doesn't really appeal anymore, either" he doesn't care about the surface because it's not his and his surface, at the end of true pacifist when papyrus asks what the sun is sans said that "WE" call is the sun he was only talking to papyrus in that moment basicly saying that "a long time ago you and me called it the sun". the resets and failed attempts to get back made him depressed and apathic giving up. maybe at the end of Deltarune we ca see what happened to the brothers.
So hyped for the next few chapters!!
Theory: It’s not literal grass. Papyrus and sans grew up in the true lab while gaster was around. Papyrus was very young then so he doesn’t remember it very well. He remembers the green floor of the lab, and mistakenly called it grass.
There’s one problem. Sans states that he “gave up trying to go back a long time ago.” This implies that their home is a place they can’t go back to. What is stopping Sans from entering the true lab? He can just teleport into the elevator leading there, so it’s not really a place that he would “give up trying to go back to.”

i actually wonder when this takes place, i mean, no one seems to be asking anything about him knowing frisk, so we wont really know. if anything, i would refer back to the shower question, where sans is having a bubble bath, they didnt have a bath tub before from their house in snowdin, so they had to have moved to the surface and got a new house, right? or did they just... teleport their house from snowdin???

Sans says Papyrus showers in his battle body when you're talking to him at Grillby's despite there house seemingly not having one.
Unless he showers when it rains in waterfall.
They're implied to have a bathroom somewhere (not with a toilet of course) in the game too. Maybe it's under the stairs or smth
It seems to me that what Papyrus said about the green grass means about the grass on the surface, before the war occurred, perhaps Papyrus was in some shelter during the war, since he was very young to fight, so he did not see the sun, but could see the grass When left the shelter at night
the war in undertale happened hundreds if not thousands of years before frisk’s arrival. bratty and catty state that monsters have been imprisoned for millennia, and sans says that when he made a joke to toriel she laughed “like it was the best joke she’s heard in 100 years.’’ i doubt papyrus and sans are that old. the only monsters confirmed to have been on the surface were asgore, gerson, and possibly toriel

Oh, that also could be it. After all monsters dosen't seem to grow old until they don't have children. Or that was about boss monsters not monsters in general. Anyway mayby both Sans and Papyrus were children when war happened. Good theory.
My theory on Sans and Papyrus is that the roaring happened in Deltarune while the both of them were living in hometown. Sans used the secret time machine found in his garage to take both him and Papyrus to the Undertale universe. Right as he's about to do it, the Angel starts wiping away the memories of everyone on Earth. Sans and Papyrus are already mostky to Undertale by the time the memory wiping reaches them. To not forget Deltarune, Sans writes "Dont Forget" on a little post-it note, and is able to keep most of his memories lf the Deltarune universe going into Undertale. Unfortunately, he was not able to save most of the memories lf his brother. Papyrus can remember the green grass of his former world, but because he was a major introvert in Deltarune and never really left his house, he dosent remember the sun at all, but Sans does. This theory would explain pretty much every plot hole, and also why Sans has a broken machine in his garage with "Dont Forget" posted somewhere.
It's possible that it referring to the Kickstarter where Sans and Papyrus were in a black void and the only things there was some green grass and some sort of rock below.

Even tho 2 of my favourite music creators (carlos eine, or insaneintherainmusic and toby fox) worked on this, I can gladly say I didn't get a thing from the animation and I found the music pretty dull, although it seems like alot of work has been put into this, especially the animation
Here’s what I’m wondering. Why would Sans and Papyrus move to the underground if they are indeed from Deltarune? Could the Lightners have possibly lost to the Titans, causing the Roaring? Maybe that’s why they had to move.
The most logical explanation is that they were forced into the Undertale universe, either because of a glitch in the multverse or The Roaring dragged both Sans and Papyrus to another world.
I will proceed to debunk every sight of green grass:
- Kickstarter has Papyrus with his armor that he made AFTER moving to Snowdin
- The Ruins has red leafs
- The grass where Flowey appears is located at the Ruins, it's dumb to assume they lived there because there's nothing you can do
- Asgore's Castle does have grass, but it's impossible for Sans or Papyrus to be there
The only explanation is that they're from Deltarune
We don't really know about Sans and Papyrus but aren't monsters in Deltarune like "magicless"? Why else Toriel would use her oven to bake pie? You know, if we check her oven it's little dirty from pie baking which mean Toriel use it regularly.

This makes sense that papyrus saw grass and no light because in chapter two when you go to the house near sans shop and knock on the door it says a trousle weakly fades away and we know who’s song is bonetrousle meaning he stays home all day without sunlight and the sans is surprised when you mention about his brother in delterune so maybe he only sees grass when sans comes back home everytime he opens the door or something

I found smth interesting don't know if it's old info but in the papyrus date in Undertale if you interact with his bed he mentions his dream where he drives his race car bed down a highway wind is flowing and the sun is on his skin. Buhuhu and here I thought that next part of game (chapter 3,4,5) will drop this year. Oh well, nothing wrong about it. After all even making simple looking game like Undertale and Deltarune take huge amount of work. If Toby and co. are finishing last area of chapter 3 and only started some basic work on 4 and 5 then all chapters will drop in 2 years at best. Aaand 6, 7 in another 2 or even 4 years ehhh, being fan of just one creator of indi games can be really nerve wracking and demand a LOT of patience and determination to keep on waiting. Hmm, it's impossible because it seems like Toby already want to get money from his hard work on game and not only from merch and soundtrack albums but I have little hope that he show us some marcy again and drop 3 chapter this year for free so we won't have to wait another 2 years or more for full 345 pack. Ahh, it's good to dream once in a while. 😅😭

When I saw the responde Papyrus gave to the last question I lost my mind because of the theories that UT:Papyrus came from Deltarune lol
It likely confirms the duo are from Deltarune with the only "hole" being resolved by what we saw from Sans here and the description of The Roaring is ultimately as the Lightners will be left to fend for themselves in eternal darkness.
Sans had to trick Papyrus to try new things. (Awesome Sauce = Mayo) and we saw him pull stuff like this in Undertale often for Papyrus' well being ultimately.
It likely goes Roaring -> Arrive in Undertale -> Convince Papyrus that the big light of heat was from Hotlands. This would be easier since so far Papyrus has been a shut-in in DR. It would also prevent him from saying "I've been to the surface and saw the Sun" which would create some tension in the Underground.

exactly my point, the hype will die down if they take 5-6 years to release + characters wont get any indivdual spotlight
I think hes going to release chapter 3 before the other ones because it has so much more progress and is basically finished or should be finished by the end of this year
Keep in mind: there’s a good chance the chapters are built to be played in quick succession. Like the story between the three are more tightly knit and cohesive than compared to the rest. Or Chapter 5 ends on a really big cliffhanger that feels better when you experience it with 3 and 4.
