So today I finally got Scaler 2.7 multi output to work in Ableton, albeit its a workaround, but at least its free - check this out! ruclips.net/video/fYXXkJQj_o4/видео.html
wow ... thank you for this vid... i was using scaler just to create chords for each track... never knew they can be synced lol... (leader/follow) mode.
Great video. Q. If I wanted to take that whole piece (composition) you created with all the versions of Scaler synced, how do I put that into Ableton (so I can save that project and open it up later and make any adjustments/ changes? Do I drag Section C to one track or all the scaler tracks? Cheers!!
Someone, please help me! For some reason, when loading a midi channel and try and trying to assign the "midi from" button, I"m not seeing the Scaler option for the second tab of pre and post FX. I reinstalled Scaler, but alas that didn't solve it. I'm on a Mac using the latest version of Scaler as an AU plugin. Please and thank you.
The multi output is not working in Ableton at this moment, but check out this video that shows how you can get it to work in Reaper. I managed to get it to work in Reaper, and its pretty easy to setup there! ruclips.net/video/L_ivSvR6kJ8/видео.html
@@vxd sounds good thanks! Try recording the midi in by arming the instrument tracks that's how I figured out it was playing the whole chords instead of one note
Hello and thanks for your explanations. I’ve tried to create a second pattern on lead instance but it seems to not send infos to others instances. Have you tried ?
Quick work-around: use Scaler's different instruments until you like your composition, then manually copy/past each note [in the chord] to each respective instrument / track you intend to use. Not ideal, but Live / Multi-out is a roadblock currently ;)
Hi, I dont have patchwork, so I cant tell you how it works, and because of its high price im not intending to get patchwork or unify (unless there is some crazy sale this blackfriday)
That's just playing the same thing in all 3 channels. It is not sending the different voicings of each midi channel. Josh @ Plugin Boutique was going to see if he could figure out how to get the external instrument in Suite to work with it, but BlueCat's Patchwork does provide a complicated way to send each midi channel properly.
right, after playing around again with piano, your right, its not moving the midi to separate tracks. I tried a few things but nothing works. I think you can buy Unify ($69) or Patchwork ($80) but thats a pretty steep price just to get this functionality to work TBH. I think Scaler guys should try to sort it out in the next update because the functionality could be so powerful.
@@vxd Its a problem with Live, not Scaler. Live doesn't do midi input very well. Josh said there was a way to do it in Suite via some sort of external intrument thing. I have no idea what that means, but hoping he puts out a video on it.
Ableton Live can't differentiate between Midi channels. It always had this problem that is why it does not work for example work with Insta Composer. The same applies to multi out with Scaler 2.7. One work-around for this is Unify from Plugin Guru. Another is BlueCat's Patchwork. If multi out works you only hear one note per instrument and not several notes. So the sound output will be much weaker than yours in this video but it will be more interesting. It will sound like a band whereby everyone plays another voice of the song.
yes I know what you mean and agree that you need these other work arounds, but ideally they find a solution for ableton in their next patch, otherwise a lot of users will be missing out on this amazing functionality! Also, I dont think people wanna pay for a plugin that is effectively double the cost of Scaler just to get this workaround!
100% agree with you. I actually bought Instacomposer and also bought Patchwork... I think they came as a combo, on PB. I hated the complicated setup and so far, am not a fan of Instacomposer, because Scaler has just been so much easier to deal with. Typically, however, I just use a piano in Scaler and work out what I need and then use the midi on another instrument.
@@VentureNW thanks how I tend to use it most times too lol but yes its such a great plugin, and this multi out has soooo many creative possibilities in ableton, I was thinking about using it for vocal samples with simpler, and then layering some of the performance options.
But that is not splitting the voices it's just sending the entire chord out to multiple channels, that's not right. I think you need patchworks to make it happen
it doesnt work & make my Ableton freeze alot (unstable). it works only with playing the whole track, and not playing it with keys. ;) Think you have to make a video about patchworks ;)
I'm sorry, but I don;'t understand how you have split the multi out from Scaler across tracks 2, 3 and 4 in the second part of your video. It is my understanding that although Ableton will use individual midi channels for input it is unable to split midi channels when routing midi between Ableton tracks.
Hey sorry for the confusion, I only realised after making this video that the multi output doesnt work on Ableton, so I made this other video with the workaround that will allow it to work. ruclips.net/video/fYXXkJQj_o4/видео.html
as far as I find some time I'll try that; just a note: using this feature you lose the capability to drive different instruments with different patterns (with Scaler in my case) and this can be not very suitable for orchestral instruments, also because (but not only) they have different note-ranges In general, I think that the Multi-Out feature is more suitable for multi-timbral synths, and less for orchestral stuff, even if somebody like it Personally, being more a "mousier" than a musician or a composer, I prefer easier workarounds like the one I found recently that is using just one Scaler instance to drive each instrument, applying suitable Scaler patterns, then recording consecutive takes one instrument after the other Thanks anyway for the tip
The thing about how I set it up is that you can do it just once, and its always available in Ableton. Scaler multi out gives you a lot of creative possibilities, Im planning for example, to use it to create vocal harmonies with a single vocal sample, AND also with multiple different vocals, so Im interested in how that will sound....

Yes, exactly. You can also save a copy of ableton file, and use that later.

The scaler community can be really helpful for this
You need to use Vst3 version of the scaler plugin instead of the AU
The only way that I can see to get the multiout working correctly in Ableton Live is to use Patchwork plugin by Blue cat audio as well.
There also unity , thanks for the link
I worked out another way and its free I'll make a quick video on it tomorrow

seems ableton doesn't allow the multi output yet. they say use patchworks on the scaler 2.7 livestream. could you make a video on how to do that?
Well if the method I showed on the video doesn't work, I'll try that....

Yes actually you can do that for any chord not just scaler, I wonder if eno8gh people wanted it, it could be am enhancement to v11.3 in ableton?
Thank you
