QUICK NOTE: We’re both actually majorly Team Justin on this!
However, since most people have already heard the story, we wanted to instead report on what their respective fans are debating, and flipped a coin to pick a side to represent. But we totally hear you all! It’s infuriating!

Someone made a good point that Blake's promotional behaviour has Ryan Reynolds all over it. It's what he does for all his own projects and he likely pushed or at least advised her promotion of her side projects. He also has a booze brand. 🤷🏼‍♀️ But even if that's true, Blake went along with it and played "Mean Girl" by turning everyone against Justin.

      @JaneyJJJ,
Perhaps because he planned to make it less romantic? The single take home message from all of his promo interviews?
"The main question shouldn't be why did she not leave but I want the men watching to think about why is he harming the woman he says he loves.
I want the guys to take a step back, and if they recognize any of Ryles behaviors in themselves, to go and seek some help." Paraphrased ever so slightly.

Naming a cocktail is indefensible, though what we do know is that the release of her brands were long planned while IEWU was moved up to August so she was pretty much forced to promote all 3 things at the same time (which means Target had all these expectations of her simultaneously) - it's just unfortunate planning all around

How is it possible for Justin to both reliquinsh most of the control of production to Blake and basically forced the role on her and was simultaneously a dictator who controlled everything on set? How can two completely opposite criticisms be levied at one person the opposing camp. This seems fishy on Blake’s part.

    • @JoyanneBecker
      @JoyanneBecker 4 месяца назад +3

One, Blake isn't the one directly making these accusations, it's from other people on set or her supporters speculating. Maybe Justin attempted to have tight control over everything at first but wasn't doing a good job. Maybe Blake took it upon herself to take charge and the rest of the cast ended up following her direction. Then later during the press tour Justin frames it as an intentional choice of his to let women on set be in control, when really it was a power struggle the whole time.

I want to first write, I love Blake Lively on Gossip Girl. I know some may disagree but I thought it was a good choice to cast her as Serena Van Der Woodson. With that being said, I’m leaning towards Justin. The reason is because of her past professionalism on set. When you have the whole cast of Gossip Girl unfollowed you, that’s a red flag. I will have to agree that working as a producer, director, and actor was too much for Justin. There will bound to be mistakes. His past professionalism on set gives him the edge over Blake. I don’t hate on Blake, but I get the feeling she was using her and hubby’s star power to turn people against Justin. I also find it uncomfortable how light she is about the DV survivors. As someone who witnessed DV in my childhood, it’s nothing light about it. That’s my humble opinion. I’m sure many of you may disagree, but please disagree respectfully.

One layer deeper..... the whole thing from colleen hoover is a marketing thing - ALL of her male leads are terrible and abusive, the book isnt an exploration of dv, it is just set dressing...... that why everyone has distanced themselves from the one guy who took the subject seriously... because hollywood doesnt take anything seriously. For them, the story was popular so it means money, thats why the florals, the nail polish, the colouring book, the marketing alcohol.... because it means nothing to them... we as normal humans go, "oh this is a serious subject" and pick sides.... the sides are the ones making money and the ones looking for meaning, its hollywood vs art, meaning and the audience not this actor or that one....

The “closing argument” aka the article goes along with Blake forcing them to back her. Justin also has a history of helping people. During the holidays he and his wife personally run an event to feed and gift homeless/low income families in Los Angeles. Blake and Ryan are Hollywood hot shots. They do nothing for anyone. Blake has a history of bullying. I was born in LA and lived here my whole life. I have heard about many people as well as had my own experiences. Blake is just known as a B. It’s just an accepted fact. Also coming from a DV home both physically and emotionally I (and others have also said) It is always part of who you are. It effects you. Whether it makes you stronger and makes you go on to do great things or like me terrifies you and causes so many issues that effect every part of your life. It doesn’t just go away because you left. Blake’s comments make it seem that way.

I agree. I didn't like this take especially since the movie is supposed to be about this subject.
So, of course the character is deeply influenced by this.
And I think the fact that the author is known for romanticizing DV in her books, shows that it stays with you one way or another…
Sure, it isn't EVERYTHING about a person. But it shapes your identity. And especially while being in a relationship like that, it is a HUGE part of who you are and it takes a lot of time to find yourself after finding the strength to leave.

Me too. My feelings tell me blake is and was the problem and that the cast (not the crew) have picked her side in fear of getting blacklisted. Which might bite them in the ass because her behavior in interviews can turn the audience against her. But this video ain't really interesting for me since I don't really care about all the movie surrounding issues or not. That isn't really what's going on now. Blake is getting criticism for her own behavior and interviews. Most videos I've seen doesn't really talk about the movie itself or what happened on set. But it also rubs me the wrong way in the interview where blake basically says she doesn't get paid for supporting the movie only to play in it but then doesn't see the wrong in using the free publicity for the movie and all the interviews that comes with promoting the movie for her own gain and promoting her own brands. If you don't want to promote the movie then don't, but don't use the publicity d
      For your own gain either

Watched the entire thing. So.... Yes. It would appear that Lively improved the movie and its box office result. So of course the industry would praise her and stating that they want to make 12 more movies with her. That's the only thing they care about. MUNNY! And it's also no surprise that the vast majority of the cast sided with Lively. She's a star, she has ties to people like Wolverine and Taylor Swift (yes, Wolverine is an actual person), and she's riding a wave of success. Justin on the other hand has an impeccable record previous to this movie. My theory: he spent a lot of his lifetime standing up for women suffering from DV. He embarks onna movie that is just about that topic. But now he has to deal with Lively, a know hot blasé girl who LOVES to bully others. I think she just got the better of him with her unbearable behavior. During parts of the shooting that is. And how messed up must one be to get married at a known former slave plant? I'll never look at Reynolds the same way again. That's just disgusting behavor, and it SO explains why he would be married to this obnoxious lady. #teamjustin

I think Blake is in the wrong just from the facts alone. Justin bought the rights for the movie and she totally steamrolled over him. I also have a theory that all of this drama was a marketing tactic because he’s the “villain” in the movie so that how everyone is treating him. Fans are only seeing everyone separating themselves from Justin and wondering why and seeing Blake act like everything is all hunky dory. Kind of like how things go after a DV relationship. The ex always seems like the good guy to people who don’t know the deeper issues. Idk if any of that theory makes sense but I’ve thought about it a lot and can’t help to see the parallels.

yes, and the argument about Jenny and Blake becoming friends while Jenny and Justin did not a good argument. Even if you know its acting, and the person you are acting with is not a violent person, it can still be hard to get past that and see the actor even after the camera cuts. I've heard interviews like the actor who played Spike on Buffy who said he needed therapy after just 1 episode where his character sexually assaulted Buffy. It can be hard being the actor who has to act violent toward you and being the person you have to react against the violence. Especially when you are a good actor, as both parties have to make it be believable.

Anything against Justin has just been Blake's claims. Of course everyone else will be afraid to back him given Ryan can ruin their career with one sentence. At the start I really thought Justin must've done something and didn't read about it at all, but so much has come out showing Blake's true colors. So glad Justin's career hasn't been ruined- he's the only one who cares about the DV victims.. when asked why he thinks some women don't leave the situation, he responded saying we shouldn't even be asking that question- real question is why they were put in that situation to begin with. My friend who went through DV told me how understood she felt- leaving is so DANGEROUS, and oftentimes the victims get stalked, or face terrifying consequences if they are found in public by their abuser

And it does come down to people wanting to either further their careers or to ruin them. Blake could’ve easily ruined the interviewers career. The interviewer who talked about Blake’s bump was congratulating her because news just became public and was all over the news that Blake was already 8mo pregnant. She was slouched like she always is in the interviews and her belly looked smaller. It wasn’t a dig. The interviewer is from Norway and English is not her first language. It wasn’t harmful to say that and nobody cared. Blake is just a mean girl. Btw the interviewer is infertile aka she can’t have babies so it was even harder for her. She meant well. It resurfaced and she reposted it to clear the air once and for all because she never felt safe to speak out against how she felt with Blake.

It’s not a coincidence that she marketed her hair care line during the movie. She had creative control since she worked on it for seven years. Just like it’s tone deaf to promote alcohol along with a movie on DV it’s also bloody tone dead to promote hair care products. Cancel her.

Blake's version is a typical Hollywood fun movie that glosses over the real issues, that actual dv survivors have problems with, brings money to sony and all those executives.
Justin's version apparently flowed well with these same people, probably won't be as profitable because you know what? Viewers will also choose a fun movie over a serious movie that actually talks about serious stuff. Probably that's why execs would do 12 more movies with lively, not with justin. Who knows
CoHo is from a dv home yet other people from dv homes and dv survivors don't see eye to eye with her in most if not all of her works? And she doesn't like the focus being on dv surviving which she based her book upon but rather wants florals, really?
    It ends with us ×

FYI - Sony Pictures holds the rights to 900 Marvel characters, including X-Men! It's in their benefit to say they want Blake Lively in 12 of their movies, when her husband is currently EXPLODING at the box office with Deadpool & Wolverine. She's a mean girl who 100% gives me Amber Heard vibes. She doesn't even look convincing in the snippets I've seen.

I think that Justin was a bit weak in his approach and allowed and even relied on Blake and other people to do things that he should have taken responsibility over. He seems like a laissez-faire kind of guy and I think you need to be a precise and adamant about things as a director for a movie like this.
Just imagine how annoying it would be on a movie set where the person who is supposed to be reliably directing the whole process is kind of lost in the sauce or going back and forth with ideas or moving a scene or the script because he heard a good suggestion from someone else last minute. It’s not good for the project and people are going to get frustrated and animosity is going to build.
A director is there to set the tone, clarify the underlying themes and dictate an actors emotional response to the scene or dialogue as he guides his actors through his visualization of the script. A director should be a leader with precise goals that he can communicate clearly.
I haven’t read the book, but for me, the movie wasted potential and didn’t lay out enough background on the characters or build an emotional connection between the audience and the characters. It seemed to me the two main characters had a nice sexual attraction, but that’s about it, which makes me think this whole intimacy thing really was a problem. There was a number of unnecessary sex scenes that I feel could have been omitted in order to show the characters actually falling in love with each other. Then the abuse would have been SO much more impactful and jarring. The push and pull of “should I forgive and stay or leave” would have been much more of a dilemma, not only for the character, but for the audience too.
It was a 2 hour movie (I think) and at the end of it, it’s moral (in my opinion) is don’t let a sexual relationship keep you in an abusive relationship… which I think misses the point of the book.
Blake Lively’s press for this movie has come across as very strange, self centered and obnoxious, but the movie really wasn’t ground breaking enough to take it seriously, so I can kind of see her considering it a loss (again, the script and movie could have really been something special). If you’re really passionate about something and it turns to absolute shit, people cope with that failure in ways that may seem bizarre. She’s also trying to make the most out of the press as she has other ventures she’s trying to launch right now. I think she made a decision to focus on her brand (hair care, fashion, whatever else she has going) for her survival because this movie was probably extremely stressful to film (she had to do things she shouldn’t have had to do) and the end result was maybe even potentially devastating to her and she wants to forget she even signed onto the project.

These types of 1 vs 1 are good when the ratio is a bit fair (or 50/50ish).
But in this case... and after seeing that "bump" interview... I am not sure what the lady on the left is doing here. This is not like when you're on trial...
I am not so sure Justin "FAILED" in anything. My intuition tells that he was pressured into doing some stuff he felt uncomfortable doing; thus his (IMO shady) comment about "Lively is prepared to be a director" when talking about a sequel. He clearly doesn't want anything to do with her, with Hoover or with anyone like them, anymore.
And no, the the lady on the left saying "Blake was right saying a DV victim is more than that." in the context of "A DV victim is more than that; it can be a DV victim with a nice hair or with a booze line.", thus promoting her business, or her stupid husband's new film, in a film about DV, is not ok.
Also, rewriting a scene without telling the female who was in charge of that, was rude and unfair.
I am not so sure why anyone would support Blake Lively either in that stupid interview situation or in this one.
I am for Justin in this particular situation.

IMHO, which may be wildly unpopular, and may contain my own errors, so please correct me on those, but with a little politeness please. I do think other than Ryan, there's someone who I feel should take some responsibility for the way this has become a mess, and that is the author herself.
Once the rights to a book, has been sold, technically the author does not have much say (or sway as to how the story transfers onto screen), which is a completely different medium, and a lot of moving parts. But Justin in his kindness, involved her to see the process...hence she was supposed to be the female gaze. Nobody is actually holding her accountable, in that...
    1. She was biased with the casting of Lily, as she is a huge Blake fangurl.
    2. During most of the tone deaf interviews, with "grab your girls, wear your florals", she's right there. Is it fair to only point the finger at Blake?
    3. The whole reason of all the offers she had received, (info from interviews I have seen of either just her or her and Blake), she claimed was that Justin understood the main message and importance of the dark dv theme. Which he has said constantly and consistently in his interviews.
    4. She also mentioned her father was an alcoholic who would then committed the dv. So it's not only Blake, who despite some of her beverage brand, was a little "tasteless", (to continue the theme), and if it was the non alcoholic versions, it may still APPEAR, to the public, (obviously it did leave a bad taste in the mouths of the audience), who were the ones calling Blake out as she should have known about the correlation between alcohol and dv.
    5. They had to increase the ages of Lily, (supposed to be 23, and fresh out of college), because she didn't even check or research, (even for the book, which was extremely odd to me), how long it takes to become a neurosurgeon.
    6. The focus groups preferring Justin's version, but including the Ryan rewrite on that scene, which you mentioned that it looked very male gaze...was the one by Ryan and Blake. Again, different from what she previously wanted Justin to do.
7.Funnily and finally it's "interesting", that when doing interviews now, the reason she sold the rights to Justin mentioned above, has now changed. When asked about the take home message, she almost parroted the Blake answer, "Hope. I mean when I saw what Blake had done with Lily...er...yes, I think it's hope."
And, @50.23, you have said that the author has sold the rights to the sequel to Blake is incorrect. Wayfair, Justin's production company, bought the rights to both novels.

Not a Blake fan but Justin really should have stepped back from being the director. I agree it would have been better to have a female experienced director for a "female gaze" and remain an EP. If his previous film on social issues received flak, he could perhaps learn or observe how others handle such theme.
Blake has too much marketing/producing prowess. She is bound to have that seamlessly, especially with her personality and connections. It's too bad there wasn't a firm head at the helm who can navigate the dynamics in the crew and cast.

Yeah, I don't hate anyone but it does seem that, as of rn, I am team J. B seems to have a lot of prior & current issues. Also, a note about CH's ridiculous stance that telling people a book has DV is "spoilers" or that no one would read it if she told them. That stance, imho, is terribly short-sided. I grew up with an abusive parent and have experienced ipv. I avoid most books centered on those types of violence. I do read the occasional book that includes those topics but none that are "centered" on it. And I guarantee you that if I get surprised by such from an author that I WILL DNF the book, leave it a 1 star review, and NEVER, purchase a thing from them again. If I am particularly salty about it I will tell everyone I know that reads, about my experience & thoughts. I have done it & would do it again. So really, all the drama wound up being very helpful to me in confirming that my decision not to read any further CH books and not to see the movie was a good one. And I think CH's view, that B also espoused, that a woman is more than DV is a kind of toxic positivity. The truth is it is just way more complicated than that. And hearing B say that was offensive to me (so I may be biased).

Also, people are easily swayed with $ & wanting to stay on the good side of their evil overlords in pe-do-wood(Hollywood), Blake is a powerhouse with her husband Ryan, so of course most of the cast & crew are going to side with Blake. 45:53 see I was concerned that playing an abusive asshole would affect his ability to direct/produce professionally. It’s hard for not only the person doing the acting and directing, but also the people around them to just snap back to reality after every cut. Someone having just screamed at you or pretended to abuse you then telling you what to do calmly can still be very off putting and stressful. I feel like maybe a lot of the drama could have been avoided had they hired an intimacy coordinator, hired a director, and hired a producer. He and Blake could have co-directed/co-produced but I do not think he should have played the abusive character while being like the head boss on set.

People were so mad that it didn't haven a powerful ending where he goes to jail.... but this is real life she was writing about because she lived it. Her dad never went away for abusing her mom. He got to live a happy life and that makes sense why she ended the book how she did or even talks about it like a silly girl would a romance book. Its not a romance book but it looks like one, abusers are often happy family men who no one expects would be abusive. Blake supported the writer and, personally, I think did an amazing job.

This was the humorous take on attempting to "both sides" the minor n typical artistic dispute in Hollywood. Personally, it angers me when ppl actually try to attribute nefarious actions/behaviors to Justin. The PR team doesn't honestly have to do anything to paint Blake as a villain -- or Justin as a saint. There are 100s of commentary videos daily doing that job quite well, including this one. These videos tell them directly n in real time how the public n press views their client. I find it telling nothing other than postulation (n the sketchy accusations of Blake early on) has come out about Justin, but there's tons of self inflicted character assassination video evidence, recorded n archived, on Blake. Justin is responsible for this movie even seeing the light of day--the rights were sold to him. He's the only documented one actually fulfilling his mission for the story, rather than promoting himself, as Blake's done. The prolonged silence between the initial story broke n why there's been no more statements by either team is obvious--the PR firms n lawyers are meeting n hammering out the financial n public damage control goals for both stars. I postulate this future: Blake n Justin will amicably settle this outside the public inquiry, cuz honestly it's a typical dispute with an actress who simply starred in the movie n put up some capital to get it made but suddenly took over the project's direction/marketing, even having her husband NOT CONTRACTED by the production write dialogue outside the production's knowledge. Blake "broke" contract perimeters, n some malicious motive can be proven. Justin stands to get a lot of money if he chooses to sell the rights to the released movie n the second book (sequel), which he may do cuz now that Blake has sullied the project. He had actual control of the project n production as him owning the rights entities him to the direction of its marketing, public messaging. As an actress n an investor, Blake's only job was to act the eff out of the lead role n profit at the box office. Period. Blake's sneaky, bullying, controlling, undermining, insensitive behavior made this movie rollout a disaster. I predict he'll keep the rights, but will allow the sequel to be made, he won't have any involvement other than his production company gets to produce n distribute it. He'll have complete background control. Blake stands to lose cuz she truly has no leverage. Despite her being close friends with Colleen, her reputation, past n present, is damaging her brand n celebrity cuz she's chosen to not address the trending negative public n press opinions. The silence reflects both teams are currently negotiating. The "drama" will blow over when they make an announcement on the agreement they reach. Imo Justin stands to gain immensely cuz Blake WANTS this franchise--it's the first thing she's done that a larger audience cares about. Good for Justin. When there IS public inquiry, cuz there definitely will be, Blake will be more business-like, succinct n might possibly include some neutral-to-positive compliment toward Justin to keep the drama from coming back. Her words n future appearances will be much more grounded, reflective n importantly NEUTRAL---a vast juxtaposition to her previous press. She might even include a very low-incendiary commentary/apology for her marketing choices of the movie.
JUSTIN: keep the rights to both movies, make the sequel urself, starring the internet's dream cast to revive the project n give it another chance = 🤑🤑🤑,🤑🤑,🤑🤑🤑 ( that's for free, u're welcome. )

Don't get me wrong, she seems incredibly shallow, but it speaks volumes that the people who actually saw what happened are on her side. I really think Justin must be glossing over how badly things went on set; It seems like production was a very messy power struggle and he was the loser, possibly due to incompetence. Whatever happened, I think he genuinely lost the respect of most of the cast and crew, not that they were bullied into submission by Blake.
