I guess we never learnt to see each other as 'the other' but as one country. Once my family left the military life and we became civilians... and I don't think social media alone is to blame for it. ...I noticed an exponential increase in bias and mockery from all sides. I really think that not only foreigners but also Indians grossly can't comprehend how big and diverse India is as a country. Statistically speaking, most Indians go without ever living among people who they don't share a common language or culture with. More than religion, it's language that divides us and people are either uncomfortable or afraid of leaving their homes to another state to start a new life which ends up breeding ignorance and intolerance. If more people started interacting and talking to one another, a lot of these prejudices would disappear and these trivial differences in eating or talking habits would cease to matter. People get too comfortable in their bubbles
Agreed. But you don't have to experience all cultures in order to respect them. I have never experienced South Indian culture but I am still able to respect it. It comes from a good upbringing. I thank my parents for that.
I think Firstly in all our schools children should be taught about different looking people from different places from all over India and how we should respect them or their culture
The idea that Indians regionally look different is simply not true & it is ignorance. For example, Sridevi, Vidya Balan (who is tamil), Deepika, Aishwarya are all really south Indians
Sure...because people in North India often call South Indians as madrasis and discriminate us on basis of skin color..making fun of south indian languages..even our temples in delhi are called as madrasis temples
The reverse is also true. The fact is every state stereotypes other state and region ,but only get offended when they are mocked. Stereotype and discrimination is what is common in all indians,be it from north, south or east and west(yes they exist).
But when a Bollywood Superstar stereotypes your people and misappropriates your culture and make it mainstream, that becomes an issue which you can't just brush under the carpet. Just compare the reach of Nirmal's video criticizing the movie versus the reach of the actual movie. The damage done by this movie is something you can't imagine. I don't care if you enjoyed this movie. But don't come in here and try to trivialise other people's reasonable issue with the movie.
There is a marked difference between accurate stereotypes and inaccurate stereotypes. Bollywood is getting their ass handed to them at the box office. OTT has gotten much better.

Bollywood has stereotyped every single culture that they have portrayed in the movies. These kind of videos can be made by some punjabi, gujarati, bengali etc. or by some religious people as well.

But so does south jndian movies… they will make a gujurati speak stereotypically bengali speak stereotypically and ohh.. rest cast dont exost only.. only south ppl so no conflict there onyl
Those who say south Indians do the same stereotypes about north, dont even have an idea that we can speak hindi as well as north indians, and we grew up watching Bollywood and hindi channels too, we have minimum knowledge about states, capitals and cultures. After campus selections and recruitments many students go to different north states too,and we can survive by learning their languages effortlessly unlike majority of northies😏
Totally agree with you! But as a North Indian who worked in the South for 3 years, I think there are some ignorance towards north Indians as well. For example, calling every state North apart from the 4 south states, there’s apparently no concept of Central, Western, Eastern states. Or getting stereotyped to be from a place that has a lot of crime (I’m from Himachal, one of the most peaceful states). I was also asked if I’m from North East because people didn’t realise that Himachal is in the North. Also, I was judged quite often by people around me since they believed that North Indian girls lack moral values and culture because we dress a certain way. Ngl, South Indians must feel the same way when they are in North. I believe there should be more awareness among people to stop the stereotypes.
@@ravsss_09856 actually most north indian girls indulge in wrong activities particularly in banglore that's why such feeling has come to south Indians.
@@ravsss_09856 it's not stereotype, its how things are. See the recent new year celebrations in banglore, more than 80% of crowd was north indians similarly last two years back there was harassment incidents in new year celebrations in banglore in which the harrased girls and boys who harrassed them are north indians none of them are from south, so it is naturally seeing all this people form such opinions on north girls.
Influence of mother tongue is a reality in India. Nirmal is no exception. He has a strong Malyali/Tamil accent when he speaks English. It's another thing that actors trying to recreate it don't always get it right.
IDK how do ppl forget or maybe ignore the stereotypical caricatures given in Hollywood movies for their own states like Texas, Chicago, even Los Angeles 🙄. It is used far too many times to not notice. This issue was never just India based, it is global. Others just don't wanna talk about themselves Only thing I can say is, in India this is so obvious due to the drastic difference in each states. Every state is like a different country which other state would never fully understand or appreciate. They do try but fail.
Exactly! Took words out of my mouth. Stereotyping occurs everywhere and it should never be taken seriously. India is a world in itself, such rich and diverse cultures that hardly anyone can see them all in a lifetime. So here, stereotyping would of course be more prevalent.
Lol that doesn't mean you justify stereotyping. And coming to Hollywood atleast they don't live in oblivion that they aren't stereotyping. Many times Hollywood has been called put for stereotyping Texans or the Florida people. And look at now in Hollywood that doesn't happen very much and now coming to Bollywood The basic etiquette would be to atleast do some research or hire people/actors from southern India on or off screen to represent it the right way. It's been 10 years since chennai express had released and what do I get to see as a kannadiga/Telugu guy...salman khan and the director ruthlessly butchering Telugu, and its culture ... like wtf?! I hope you understand how that feels...cus we're living in 2023 the era where we can proudly call it the Indian cinema and not during the agneepath era and you still represent one of the southern culture like this? It just seems like Bollywood is evolving but backwards

Now they have Marathis who don't speak Marathi named Deshpande, Gaitonde, etc.

10:20 we indians are more aware about western culture than each other's culture... and main reason behind is Language barrier.... we got to know each other through movies mostly.... we northies can't even differentiate between 5 main languages if spoken in front of us...
As a South Indian, I love some of these movies but Nirmal isn't wrong as well. I enjoyed the absurdity, especially in Ra One and Chennai Express. However, I do believe that there still needs to be some sort of effort in the way things are presented. I guess there should be an embrace in the "gray area". Like if they wanna make a comedy, maybe hiring South Indians to help out might make it feel less cringe and even more enjoyable. This isn't only for Bollywood making movies inspired by South Indians, this is for anything. Having people who lived that culture being a part of the team working in production really makes a difference. Like if you wanna shoot in Tamilnadu, having someone who knows amazing locations there makes it more authentic and enjoyable. Especially with scenes like Kashmir to Kanyakumari, where they're portraying Mohiniyattam and Kathakali, they could've hired Bharatanatyam dancers, Oyilattam dancers and Karagattam dancers. It's the subtle changes that makes a big difference. And again, I love these movies. And I don't think South Indians who comment on these things are actually offended. It's more of, "If this dish had more salt in it, it would taste even better"
Me as a Tamilian and Rajinikanth fan, every time Bollywood actors say 'Enna rascala' I feel so disgusted by it. Rajinikanth never said such thing. Stop humiliating our Thalaivar

Each regional language mocks other regional languages (sometimes, not always). It happens even within the South. Case and point - Pushpa - Telugu mocking Tamil. This is not meant to be offensive or start a controversy. It is just meant to stir up the Josh of the local language audience (rightly or wrongly). The "Woke" will have a field day.
Great, now that guy should make a video about how South Indians portray North Indians in their movies, especially how Punjabis are portrayed. Let's balance this equation for once.
Even punjabis are not OK with the portrayal of all punjabis in punjabi movies. This is classic subtle subversion tactics to poison the mind and create hate among people. All punjabis are shown as lavish and rolls Royce and audi , but many many punjabis are very humble and down to earth people. This larger than life image of punjabis shown in movies and songs is bcoz of the Canadian dollar influence
It's not about balancing. He's a South Indian and making a video on how Punjabis are portrayed would not make any justice. Hope, there would be Punjabi youtuber who would do it instead.

Hii bro yesterday jabykoay conducted any giveaway plsss let me know
The idea that Indians regionally look different is simply not true & it is ignorance. For example, Sridevi, Vidya Balan (who is tamil), Deepika, Aishwarya are all really south Indians
@@idontevenhaveapla7224 by the way check your facts fully..vidya balan is not tamil she is malayali.. born in palakkad

But so does south jndian movies… they will make a gujurati speak stereotypically bengali speak stereotypically and ohh.. rest cast dont exost only.. only south ppl so no conflict there onyl
haha true :)

Influence of mother tongue is a reality in India. Nirmal is no exception. He has a strong Malyali/Tamil accent when he speaks English. It's another thing that actors trying to recreate it don't always get it right.
Funny thing was that Deepika Padukone is from Karnataka, which is in south as well. Still she did all that over the top impersonation.😂😂😂😂
IDK how do ppl forget or maybe ignore the stereotypical caricatures given in Hollywood movies for their own states like Texas, Chicago, even Los Angeles 🙄. It is used far too many times to not notice. This issue was never just India based, it is global. Others just don't wanna talk about themselves
Only thing I can say is, in India this is so obvious due to the drastic difference in each states.
