I've had a lot of people ask me about how to use scoreboards in OBS when live streaming high school sports. Well, here it is. I walk you through how to create them and use them in OBS. Knowledge and access to photoshop is required. Please subscribe and hit that notification bell so you'll know the next time I upload a video. !

For many years I tried to find something like this and gave up. At least with free tools. And then there it is. Thanks. Great video.
This is such a great video. Well organized and you show each step perfectly. I've been looking all over to see how to get a scoreboard to use with OBS and was looking at spending more money than I needed to and not get the customization I needed. I just happen to know photoshop enough to be able to do this. Looking forward to the second video!
thanks did the upgrade only took around 4 minutes in total absolute breeze and already love it.
Great tutorial Mike, we have a similar workflow, learnt a few new tricks along the way. You can however when using scoreboard plus inside of OBS, setup up your first score text GDI and get it to how you want it, for example text size, color, font and position etc. If you duplicate these layers, then after you have re-positioned everything go back and edit the read from source file to the correct outputs it pretty much works. I have found this saves a lot of messing about trying to match everything up. Looking forward to part 2 especially interested in setting up the ticker bar.
Hey Mike!! Learning a lot from your tutorial. I used to live in OKC so your score boards look so familiar. I am now in Spain trying to set up a scoreboard for Spanish teams. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!
Cheers!
Very cool!
OH MY GOD. So THAT'S how you use the Text GDI > Read from file to change the scoreboard font! THANKSSSSSSSSSSS
Nice thorough job with the scoreboard setup. I am going to try and implement something like this in our ice hockey stream. Curious is you have found a way to play replays/highlights during your live stream? I know about the replay buffer but it only does the last few seconds. I was looking for something that could be used to show a play from earlier in the game to show during intermission or something like that. Does that make sense? Thanks again for the great video!
Yes, there is a replay option where you can replay up to the last 15 seconds. I'll try to get a video up describing how to do that. It's pretty finicky though and you definitely need to test it before streaming live.

Can u give a link to ur photoshop file 😀😀😀😀 great video.. drop a link on google drive or drop box...thanks... got it brother great video...
Great vid! Quick question, is it possible to put more than 2 fields for a game show where I have 4 players?
No, not with the Scoreboard+ plugin.
I followed this video, and it works perfectly thank you very much.
But can I ask, see when you are streaming with your graphics and text on screen, can you at the same time just record the raw footage from your camera without the score ect on screen ?
Short answer is yes and no. Not with my current setup. To record a clean version, you need to route everything into a switcher (including audio) then output into a recorder (like an ATOMOS NINJA or comparable) then use the loop through on the recorder to input into the laptop running OBS to add graphics before the stream out. There is no way to record a clean version in OBS.
Your talking about ISO recording, whereby you record individual camera feeds. But surely your already recording in camera and depending on your setup most professional cameras allow multiple recording to two SD cards individually or simultaneously should one fail . The Atem Mini Pro ISO switcher has this feature. Also OBS will be introducing ISO in future upgrades, however you will be restricted by your CPU/GPU performance of your PC/Laptop. As Mike said you could use a Ninja to record, that would be the most professional way, but if limited by budget, a standalone game capture DVR would do the same thing as long as it had video pass through to allow you to send your video back into your mixing software. Vmix already has an ISO feature built in to its software but that is paid for. Failing that use two PCs/ Laptops one to record and the other to stream that will do the same thing.
This is amazing! I would love that Photoshop file if you are willing to share!! Thanks for this info, been trying to get this going for our high school games.
email me at info@svprovideo.com and I'll share it
Really good work ♥ luv from pakistan. 1 request plz can u make a cricket scoreboard..?
thank you so much for your video sir, i have a question how to replay the scoring on livestream?
Hey Mike great video. Is it possible to access and change the score remotely?
Yes but I'm not sure how to do that.
Hi Mike, I have followed your steps with everything for OBS and am so close to being able to stream our Water Polo Matches. I cannot seem to change the numbers after the Text GDI is uploaded.I.e. when the score is updated? Any Advice on how to go about doing this?
Hello, Mike!
Thank you for sharing this Gem! I'm wondering if you have any guidance on inputting the timer .txt file into OBS? It allowed me to input as an image layer/source in OBS, but the clock is not counting down in OBS. Is there a setting somewhere I need to activate/deactivate...?
Thank you!
if you want me to try to help, reply with your email and I will shoot you a message. I do broadcasts with this scoreboard for my school as well.
It should be a text layer in OBS, not an image layer.
I am having the same problem
Mike, great channel. I'm a one man band so everythiung on game day is done by me so the photoshop option on laptop isnt really an option, contolling OBS graphics via smartfone mounted on the tripod panning handle is the way i have to go.
I understand. I had to break down and pay a videographer because I just couldn't do it all myself. You have to find ways to adapt if it's just you.
@@MikesWorld1 JVC 250ESB is a great camera for one man bands and has scoreboard graphics on board the camera that you update via mobile device . I used that for a while. Have also used a LiveShell . This season I'll be using OBS with a controller mounted to the panning handle .
Great video! I'm going to try this in GIMP!
Do you have a link to this template for photoshop...i am trying to create a scoreboard and your template is perfect for what i am trying to create for basketball but i am a total novice in Adobe Photoshop.
Thanks for making the video. Very informative and useful. I followed your steps for a swim meet Heat and Events and works great. However I find the number shift when you reach double digits 9 -> 10 (etc). Any ideas why the numbers in over would shift? Thanks again
there is an easy way rather than using photoshop as a score only

Thanks!!! How can you make an animated table of results for OBS? For example, at the end of a sports competition, display the table on the screen, who is in the first place, who is in second, who is in third place. That is, to be able to edit this animated table.
I'm not sure about an animated table. You could create a static one in photoshop, have photoshop open, and update the photoshop file then hit Control+S to save and it updates automatically on screen.
@@MikesWorld1 thanks.
You dah MAN! Enjoy your videos. Keep us straight and stay legit.\
This was super helpful! Looking forward to part 2
You know the KYE for control de Score or PAUSE / START time with a StreamDeck or direct buttons and not in the SCOREBOARD PLUGIN?
I would assume you could use a webpage. Import your scoreboard graphics to size on the html page and use JS to change scores and it should update straight away. Can you dock part of an html page as a controller?
That might be an option but I have not tested that.
Good video, Thank you !
Very good tutorial mate… Thank you!
Glad it helped.
Psd files also appreciated. Amazing video
same here
This is an amazing tutorial! Thank you! ALSO, O-H!!!

at 27:55 if you want to center text just click on "Center Text" in your Text edit menu.
where can i download the scoreboard folder?
Looking to see if you did the update to this 2 year old video like you said below?
Scoreboard+ is refusing to update information on my scoreboard.
Likewise
Thank you so much for this sir.
How do you have the message going across the bottom of the screen ?
It's a scrolling feature. I'll make a video on how to do that very soon. It's pretty easy.
What do you mean when you say your going to be using photoshop file inside of OBS? How is that done?
wow nice tutorial, hope you upload the second part
What product do you recommend for overlaying real time scoreboard data, from the sb controller, to your live stream?
The cheapest is using the scoreboard+ like I showed in the video. If the scoreboard controller is connected to the internet, you can connect it to the scoreboard+ controller. There is a setting where you input the scoreboard controller's ip address. I haven't used it yet. Most schools don't have their scoreboards connected online to receive the data. All of the other options include using third parties and the cost is pretty expensive. Either way, a school has to have their scoreboard data connected to a cloud server to get it to a streaming controller. I would suggest googling it to see all the options.
Awesome video! Exactly what I needed. Thank you!
Glad I could help.
I think this will be also possible with HTML and CSS. As a free option.
Thanks for this! Group those files together and you can move them together.
Just a heads up the Home and Away name txt files are broken for windows.
Thanks Sir, Well explained
Great video!! helped me out alot. thanks
Glad it helped!
Just think, TV Brodcast channels like, ESPN, Bally Sports, etc all use this technique
Not exactly.

Awesome video. Thank you!
Thanks very helpful video. 😊
Can you give me the score board link?
When I hit CTRL+S it doesn't change in OBS for me. Can you please tell me what i missed?
never mind i got it
@@shirestudios how?
I'm struggling with your Photoshop method. When I change the number, it stays the same. Nothing happens with CTRL + S. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
...make sure you are uploading the photoshop file to OBS and not just an image. If you update (by saving the photoshop file) OBS will display the change.
In which format do u save the image in photshop?
Save it as a Photoshop PSD file
Hey Mike great video. Can you just share how to add this over to obs and how to control it please and thanks
That information should be in the video.
@@MikesWorld1 it’s not that why I was asking. You already show it up on OBS but you don’t explain how to open it in OBS and have control of it.
@@MikesWorld1 just wondering what you use for a countdown timer if you wouldn't mind sharing
Thank you so much for this video!
Why is the timer using text?
It;s not allowing me to use in the MAC format it keeps saying that Malware doesnt recongize it
Thanks so much, I truly appreciate this so much...
Would illustrator work the same?
I don’t know.
why we dont create 10 Images First Club 0-0 Second club and First club 1-0Second club ......... till First club 5-5Second club . and every time there new goal we change the Image from OBS ? does it work
what if one team gets to more than five then? you’re kind of stuck at that point so it’s much safer to just have live text
Nice video. Do you know how to make OCR And auto recognize the scoreboard instead of typing manually. I heard that is software available
You can set it up for that but I don't know how and haven't researched it other than it takes a lot of extra hardware and will raise your costs significantly.
Also is there anyway to get the psd files its not allowing me to get it
Please make a detailed video on setup of scoreboard for cricket
hwhens the part 2
Amazing thank you.
I dont have photoshop, how can I use this with GIMP and .xcf files?
You can't
@@MikesWorld1 you actually can! Follow the steps in this video but try to find the tools in the free gimp software. Export as a .png and import that image into OBS. Rather than ctrl+s, just use ctrl+E to export to that same same, thus updating it like this video does with photoshop files.
lets say one makes a touchdown how can I make an animation like 1 number goes inside the box one at a time and then the last one makes it 6
I don’t think you can make animations like that for OBS.
@@MikesWorld1 I've seen it done if you ever find out lmk
they are probably using VMIX or they hire someone to make them a script of that in OBS
@@Aspect0001 using NDI, so that u can use adobe ae or premier pro.
hich version of photoshop is this looks like thers several prenium versions and a free one which do i want
Mike, is your more in-depth video out yet?
No, I've been side tracked with other things. I'll try to do one this weekend. I have to pull out everything and set it up anyway to get it all tested and ready since I start streaming HS football the following week.
Any way to add 1&10 to this that you know of?
Hide / display a pre made layer and save
my scoreboard wont connect with obs.. Any ideas?
Yes
This has to do with recent OBS updates. I’ll have to get into it and produce an updated video.
there is an easy way and no need to use photoshop anyway thanks for sharing
How?
@@streetballplaybookph just upload a jpg or PNG pic or whatever you want as basis, then just put the txt from the scores and so on, like he described
How does it words po na need ng photoshop? Can you do a tutorial please? Thank you.
Mine doesn't work. How can you get a photo shop file into an image?
29:46 is the process. If you can't see your photoshop file when importing an image, make sure you've change the image file type to ALL FORMATS.
Why is my number 0 for the scoreboard blurry?
Would you be willing to share your psd files for these scoreboards?
same
why not just create the background assets as pngs, and use a text layer in OBS rather than having to run photoshop at the same time?
I explain how to do that with the scoreboard+ program later in the video. If you mean a text layer that you change in OBS for each score, it's actually harder to do that quickly than it is to control it in Photoshop and his Control+S.
SO how do you download the scoreboard plus app?
Windows: www.mediafire.com/file/crc2mhjio0snl0s/Scoreboard%252B%252816%2529.zip/file
MAC: www.mediafire.com/file/5jz9cu958aawk5n/Scoreboard%252BMAC.zip/file
thank you!!
scoreboard didnt work for me which can be the problem
Scoreboard outputs are to text files which can be found in the output folder of the program. When setting up your scoreboard in obs create your scene and add the text files as sources. Name the source for example Home Score and position these where you want them. Double click the Home Score source and check the read from file. Click on browse and locate the output folder and click on the text file Home Score. When using Scoreboard everytime your increment the home score its output should be displayed. Do this for all outputs. Did you know that you can have multiple instances of the scoreboard app running to build more complicated scoreboards. Just remember to correctly choose the right output folder for each instance. I changed the program icons for each new score board so that I knew what scoreboard I was using.
Can I set Scoreboard for countup?
No, it only counts down.
and how do you get. text GDI
