This song from 1988. For me personally it has kinda similar vibes with song Runaway train from Soul asylum. Don't know why. Victor, singer from Kino he had a car accident in Aug 1990. He became a huge legend right after, or probably even few years before he died. His fans created an urban symbol to his honor. In the center of Moscow we have walking street Arbat, and fans started to write notes on the wall of some house, to express their feelings, respect and love to him as a person. You can google "wall of Victor Coi" or Tsoi I'm pretty sure this place is still exist

6:32 If you mean this, i think it could be not a synth but some different sounds which all are made with guitar strings and maybe some tape recorder wizzardy. Those creations should represent the plane which is taking off (the plane with a silver wing which only leaves a shadow on the ground). But Kino also used synths very often.
My 15 year old son loves this band so much. We live in Portland, OR and there's no cultural reference to us personally, except that my son's a history buff and Kino sang about the troubles before the Berlin wall fell in the 1980s. It was a great band, they were kind of ahead of time with music and very deep with words that you have to listen twice to. This song however, is like worn out, take money for nothing by dire straits that every might have heard unaware of other much better tracks
This song was first released on 'Звезда по имени Солнце' (The Star Called Sun) in 1989. Viktor Tsoi died in a car crash in then Soviet republic Latvia 1990. The official conclusion that he has falen asleep while driving his car and crashed into an uncoming bus. Kino were part of the Soviet underground avantgarde - Rock music was considered by the state a decadent and vulgar form of western capitalist art, but in the late eighties when glasnost (opennes) and perestroika (restructuring of the Union's economy) were proclaimed as goals the censorship had started to lift and many underground bands were allowed to tour and print their records on the state-owned record production facilities. Kino were legends of the Perestroika era addressing the feelings of regular people about the state of the country in those trying times which would turn into an even bigger turmoil of the nineties with savage capitalism, poverty, disruptions of economy, mafia wreaking havoc, wars in the post-Soviet republics etc. Maybe it is best that Tsoi did not live to see all of it although I am curious as to what he would write about all of that. Btw his father was ethnic Korean - hense the appearance and the surname.
The translation that you've used is not bad, but it tries to treat the lyrics as concise sentenses. Here is my attempt.

If you want something less chill and mellow from Kino then check out 'Хочу перемен' [I Want Changes] - many people do consider it to be the hymn of perestroika.
Another band to check out is Nautilus Pompilius from my hometown Yekaterinburg (back in the Soviet times it was called Sverdlovsk). I would recommend 'Скованные одной цепью' [Bound by the Same Chain], 'Последнее письмо' [The Last Letter], 'Люди на холме' [People on the Hill] & 'Крылья' [Wings].

5:05 male back vocal are typical for Russian chant tradition and also military or cossacks choirs tradition (Alexander Red Army choir). Some Western pop songs who play with this is for example Pet Shop Boys Go West (Kreml) song.
I think you got the meaning very well. In the second verse he is like saying that music is also some sort of sense of life or at last without music the death is not pleasant. Also this plane with a silver wing which only leaves a shadow on the ground could have a spiritual meaning but I think it is ok to just interpret it literally like you did. This is the magic of Kino's songs - you can interpret them literally but they provide enough room, depth and energy to interpret them in philosophic ways.
