According to the Russian Wikipedia page, this song was first rehearsed and presented for the fourth vestival of the Leningrad Rock Club in 1986, but it was only recorded and released for the band's 1988 album 'Группа крови' [Blood Type]. Kino (which means 'Movies') were part of the Soviet underground avant-garde - Rock music was considered by the state a decadent and vulgar form of western capitalist art, but in the late eighties when glasnost (openness) and perestroika (restructuring of the Union's economy) were proclaimed as goals, the censorship had started to lift and many underground bands were allowed to tour and print their records on the state-owned record production facilities (the only professional and legal ones). Kino were legends of the Perestroika era addressing the feelings of regular people about the state of the country in those trying times which would later turn into an even bigger turmoil of the nineties with savage capitalism, poverty, disruptions of economy, mafia wreaking havoc, wars, radical islamist insurrections and anti-Russian movements in ethnic post-Soviet republics. Viktor Tsoi died in a car crash in the then Soviet republic of Latvia in 1990. The official conclusion is that he has falen asleep while driving his car and crashed into an uncoming bus. Maybe it is best that Tsoi did not live to see everything that followed although I am curious as to what he would write about it. Btw his father was ethnic Korean - hense the appearance (if you will ever get to see his photo) and the surname. He even has some following in Korea, but he is absolutely a cult status figure in the post-Soviet and Russian-speaking space.
