I hope you read my comment. There is already a lot written about Viktor Tsoi, but no one said that he was really a very extraordinary person. During his lifetime, Victor was not verbose, he did not write political songs, contrary to what many fans of his work believe. Tsoi wrote about his inner struggle, this is his philosophical perception of his life and his place in it. He wrote the best and legendary songs on the eve of his tragic death, his previous albums were just pranks, a joke, but before his death, the Kino group released the Blood Type album, which is actually the culmination of his work and success. The more I try to understand him, the more agreeable he becomes. We are almost the same age, I listened to his songs when I served in the Soviet army in 1987-89. In Russia they always say - "Tsoi is alive!". I just have to tell you that you are the best!!! So delving into the words of Tsoi is not given to every native speaker of the Russian language ... you just amazed me.
I would like to disagree with you. He wrote about political themes, albeit noticing them requires reading between the lines. Take a look at their song "Trolleybus", or "Ya Ob'yavlyayu Svoy Dom...". The former contains a lot of indirect references to the USSR and the governing system, and the second one has a self-censored chorus part. In English, the chorus is: "I declare my house, a nuke-free zone. I declare my courtyard, a nuke-free zone. I declare my city, a nuke-free zone. I declare my..." The fourth sentence was cut short, but everyone who can read between the lines know, what kind of declaration he has wanted to make there.
I heard this song for the first time 3 years ago and without talking a single word of Russian, Kino and this song, in particular became one of my favorites. The melody helps you think and relax (even though the lyrics are a call to action).
I heard a very good description of Tsoi's lyrics and Kino's music. They are not for singing or dancing but for thinking. If you decide to learn Russian you'll understand the deep thought of his lyrics. But the translation into English is very good and reflects very well what the poet meant by his lyrics. And, by the way, the Victor's voice is kind of a musical instrument as well.
I don't know why but it turns out that tears come to my eyes when I hear this song. At first I thought that I was so sentimental, but I noticed that many other people feel likewise, and then I heard a very good description of Tsoi's lyrics and Kino's music. They are not for singing or dancing but for thinking. And as I listen to it realizing that Victor is alive only in my heart I cry and understand how deeply this song is embedded in my heart, I'd rather say - indoctrinated. It took years for my to understand they lyrics of his lyrics. Victor Tsoi is alive. He just wet out for a smoke.
thank you for actually reading the lyrics. the lyrics are the most important thing about their songs, more so than the melody or riffs. they’re pure poetry and can make you cry with their beauty. it’s like spoken word set to music
Kino is actually a fairly old group and was active from 1980-1990. It fell apart after the unfortunate death of Viktor Tsoi in an auto accident when he was only 28 years old. Спокойная Ночь was released in 1988 as part of the Blood Type album. People have been rallying behind Tsoi’s message for decades at this point and he still has a massive impact on the music and overall culture of many post-soviet countries.
This song, or in particular, this version of that song, was recorded and then released in 1989 in the album called "The Last Hero" (Poslédniy Gerói). And it takes its origin way back in 1986, but then it was a lot shorter, and sounded almost completely different. There was a version of that song released in 1988 in the album "Blood Type" (Grúppa Króvi), which was basically the full, completed variant of the original from 1986. This variant though sounds completely different, but it's absolutely mindblowing, and I love it so much. Perfect speed and tempo, variety of sounds, how the lyrics blend in so well, and especially Yúri Kasparyán's MAGNIFICENT guitar solo from just out of this world. I actually cant believe this kind of music was real before I was even born. Tsói is alive.
Yeah, Bro, for us Kino more than just a band. It's poetry and sadness about world, what we wait, but not have) Thank you very much, for your reaction! Kino and Victor Tsoy make a good music, but lyrics, text was just a... no words. Thank you and peace to you and your family!
One of the best songs of Victor. Thank you for your reaction. Here, in Russia, we have always said that Tsoi is alive! )) And your brilliant reaction is just another proof of it

Oh, yes. I've been watching through some reaction videos, just to see if people react to this solo guitar part, and that is a kind of test - who makes videos just for the hype, and who is really digging the music. As for the lyrics, I may assure you - the lyrics is great, that's a real poetry.
"Calm/Peaceful Night" (Спокойная Ночь), was originally released in 1988 in the album Группа Крови ("Gruppa Krovi", Blood Type); rereleased in the compilation album Легенда ("Legenda", Legend) in 2018
Wow, this song one of my favorite for the more than 30 years, but look like you get it better than me. Thank you for your reaction and interpretation ❤
This was a great reaction with deep analyses. Thank you! Kino was the most popular rock band in late USSR, but the lead singer and author - VIctor Tsoi - had died in car crush in 1990. His songs are still actual even today. Musicians told that while they recorded this song in a flat of one of band members, the neighbors came and askes not to play because a person died right away in a flat behind a wall...
As a massive "Kino" fan for over 30 years, I want to thank you for your insightful review and the heartfelt interest and love it conveys. Great job! Thank you 🙏🏻👏🏻❤️
I honestly enjoyed watching your reaction. Looking forward for more videos on this band. I was born in USSR in late 70s but I actually started to listen “Kino” after i moved to USA
I'll definitely be circling back to them. I've become a real fan of their stuff since I found them a couple months ago. Really a shame this band isn't more well known.
Wow! I am from the "Soviet Union", and I know Kino and Tsoy well. I am writing here because I really loved your analysis of the song and the lyrics. I like that you started the analysis of the song with the lyrics and the meaning. Thanks to your analysis, even I heard in the song and in the words something that I may not have paid attention to before. It is nice to see such deep-thinking person. Thank you!
Thanks! This is the best reaction to this song. Firstly, you used a high-quality translation. And secondly, you noticed the meaning behind the words very clearly. And yes, you're absolutely right. This song is a guide to a special state of mind. You can call it a trance state. But what exactly do you feel when immersed in the melody - it is devoid of extremes, good and evil-there is none of this. This feeling is clearly bigger than yourself. It remains only to feel with bated breath. Pure beauty.
I've seen others non-russians, mostly english speaking people made reaction to this song, non of them made that exelent break down of this lyrics! You're awesome!
@@Daniyar.Balapanov
Hey Ric, this band was active during the end of the 80s, I think when the Soviets implemented the policy called "Glasnost", or "Publicity". Unfortunately, the singer of this band died in a horrible car crash somewhere in Latvia, so we haven't got any new releases since 1989 except for some "unpublished" records. I'd say that this band is quite influential in the Post-Soviet area, together with "Akvarium", "Nautilus Pompilus", "Agatha Christie", "Sektor Gaza", and stuff. Not everyone is listening to the lyrics attentively, because the melody alone gives you a certain mood, though you might discover the second "manifestation" if you listen to the lyrics more closely.
YES !! this guy Viktor Tsoi managed to say the most important and correct words. He had the courage and strength not to succumb to this world, but to speak openly what he considered necessary. All his songs are very deep.
Thanks for this video, man. Victor Tcoi was a hero for a whole generation of people in ussr. Some say it’s really his lyrics and his music was a real spark which started a perestroika. So good to see the you have got the true meanings of the lyrics, it’s not just beautiful words bout the good sleep))) it’s all about revolution and changes.
Hey, Ric. Enlightening reaction. The song came out long time ago in 1989. I first heard it when I was a second-year soldier in the Soviet military. Late 80s were a time of transition in Russia - from Soviet orthodoxy to post-Soviet lawlessness. Tsoi (the vocalist) had his finger on the pulse of that change for sure. Your reaction brilliantly unpacks the meaning of the lyrics. This has been one of my favorites by Tsoi for all these years, but it was your break-down of the lyrics that truly deepened my understanding of what I thought Tsoi was quietly preaching in this track. Your reaction is definitely value-added. Thank you, brother.
Man, thank you very much for such an absolutely right understanding the words and the vibe of this song! You are cool, thanks for you reaction ! I wish prosperity to your channel!
Thank you friend for the work you have done, I am from Russia and I am impressed by the way you analyze Viktor Tsoi’s songs, I looked at several of your reactions and saw that you approach this work responsibly
Viktor Tsoi is not only a poet, singer and musician, he was an artist, studied at an art school and painted pictures, so many of his songs are like paintings, smear by smear they paint a picture with words. This is especially noticeable in the song "A star named the Sun"
Wasn’t sure of this to begin with, but I found I really like it. Really appreciate your reading the lyrics in English. You’re understanding of them, and your reaction to them, are great.
You're awesome! You did pretty good job by analize this lyric. I am a russian but never been a great fan of Victor Tzoi. I've never paid attention to lyrics of this song . With your guide I got grasp of this song! Thank you! God Bless You!
In fact, this is a social song about active and passive people. The song is full of allegories. Passive people go with the flow and do not take part in the urgent need for change. They accept the routine that at night everyone usually sleeps and goes to bed. They are wished a restful sleep. The city is the country. The flashes of fireworks in the night sky are bright people striving to illuminate the night, but the night (the existing order) is stronger, the power of the night is great. Those who do not agree sit in the saddle of their horse, and the rest (passive people) are wished a peaceful sleep.
Yes, Viktor Tsoi was good precisely because he created “photographic” images with words, you feel right. In Russian it is even stronger, because some of the lyrics have subtexts that are understandable to those who lived in that country and at that time. But overall, his lyrics are timeless.
thanks for the reaction. this song is just the bomb. one of my favorites. I listen to her every day. everything about her is great. I'm surprised she has so few views on your channel. definitely from me 👍🏻
Viktor Tsoi's poetry is very simple in form, but his metaphors and words create a very great depth. Listening to the song for the thousandth time in my entire life, it feels relevant again and touches the sore strings of the soul. The time has come back to Russia when even those who were silent begin to speak, many saddle their horses and they can no longer catch up, but the words "but for those who go to bed - a quiet night" already sound different in our realities. It seems to be sarcasm towards those who are still sleeping while the time has come, which is almost impossible to ignore.
The leader of the group. Soviet rock musician, songwriter, poet, artist and film actor of Korean-Russian origin. Born: June 21, 1962, Leningrad, RSFSR, USSR Died: August 15, 1990 (28 years old)
The roofs of the houses shudder under the weight of days, Heavenly shepherd herds the clouds, City shoots at night shot of lights, But the night is stronger, her power is great.
And to those who go to bed - Restful sleep. Quiet night. To those who go to bed - Restful sleep. Quiet night.
I've been waiting for this time, and now it's time has come, Those who were silent stopped being silent. Those who have nothing to wait for, sit in the saddle, Their not catch up, already not catch up.
And to those who go to bed - Restful sleep. Quiet night. To those who go to bed - Restful sleep. Quiet night.
Neighbors come, they hear the sound of hooves, Prevents to fall asleep, disturbing their sleep. Those who have nothing to wait for, hit the road Those who are saved, Those who are saved.
And to those who go to bed - Restful sleep. Quiet night. To those who go to bed - Restful sleep. Quiet night.

you probably know it by now, but this band was active throughout 1980s and the band frontman had died in a car accident in 1990. they were like people who really sent out new ideas at the time of Soviet Union decay, and ironically enough, Viktor Tsoy, the person who brought so many new ideas and ways of thought in that old and dusty system of Soviet Union died just one year before the state collapsed without seeing really how much momentum his ideas have gotten. He became a musical legend and even new generations still listen to his songs not to mention those who were young during his lifetime.
Thank you! I re-discovered this song because of 2001 movie The Sisters For me this song is about power, true happynes and luck
Just a P.S. the actual song by the group was released in the 80s but the video that someone made with that song was posted on RUclips in 2017. Hope that makes sense :)
What this song really is about is message about all calm, ignorant happy people, dwelling in their comfort and about others. There are those who have big, scary question that don’t let you sleep at night: how to insure world peace, what happens after death, are we alone in the universe, does the thing in itself exist or everything is just an interpretation of your mind, who is right and who is wrong in some conflict, what should you do to help your country or even the whole world, is there a God, is killing a person ever truly right, how did life appear on earth, where does knowledge ultimately come from, will humans ever become immortal - should they? Some restless people often accuse calm people that aren’t interested in those big scary unknowns in being ignorant “sheeple” - easily controllable masses. But Victor Tsoi is kinder and thus he made such a wonderful song that, from all people like him, including myself this is a truce, an empathetic understanding to those who aren’t interested or perhaps are just tired of worrying, tired of questioning. Be kinder and let people rest - they are tired.

I've always loved the final guitar solo for Calm Night. What a beautiful song, even though I can't understand the lyrics.
Oh, yes. I've been watching through some reaction videos, just to see if people react to this solo guitar part, and that is a kind of test - who makes videos just for the hype, and who is really digging the music. As for the lyrics, I may assure you - the lyrics is great, that's a real poetry.
@@frontfocus1This is really a real test, people who are truly passionate about listening to this solo should just melt with happiness
"Calm/Peaceful Night" (Спокойная Ночь), was originally released in 1988 in the album Группа Крови ("Gruppa Krovi", Blood Type); rereleased in the compilation album Легенда ("Legenda", Legend) in 2018
First version/iteration came out on the Ночь album though.

Beautiful song! Brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for translating!
Not totally accurate translation of актуальный, but your are defo right

One of the best solo ever !

You are very good in understanding the sense of Tsoy)

Hey, like the video! you're doing a good job brining people music that they'd probably never hear in their lives. Keep up the good work man!
Thanks! I really appreciate that!
I've seen others non-russians, mostly english speaking people made reaction to this song, non of them made that exelent break down of this lyrics! You're awesome!
what did you say about my mother?

Simply amazing analysis! 40 years later, when this song was first heard, it became relevant again, for another era, another place, ....

Thank you sire for your reaction

Such a masterpiece this one. Thank you.
Wasn’t sure of this to begin with, but I found I really like it. Really appreciate your reading the lyrics in English. You’re understanding of them, and your reaction to them, are great.

This song has been around before the 2000s im pretty sure. The late 1980s I think
KINO and Victor is a philosophy, not just music. To me, Victor was a prophet. IS a prophet. Tsoi is alive forever.
Yes, Viktor Tsoi was good precisely because he created “photographic” images with words, you feel right. In Russian it is even stronger, because some of the lyrics have subtexts that are understandable to those who lived in that country and at that time. But overall, his lyrics are timeless.
Ric, thanks for your deep attention to the song. Like)

Born:
June 21, 1962, Leningrad, RSFSR, USSR
Died:
August 15, 1990 (28 years old)
The roofs of the houses shudder under the weight of days,
Heavenly shepherd herds the clouds,
City shoots at night shot of lights,
But the night is stronger, her power is great.
And to those who go to bed -
Restful sleep.
Quiet night.
To those who go to bed -
Restful sleep.
Quiet night.
I've been waiting for this time, and now it's time has come,
Those who were silent stopped being silent.
Those who have nothing to wait for, sit in the saddle,
Their not catch up, already not catch up.
And to those who go to bed -
Restful sleep.
Quiet night.
To those who go to bed -
Restful sleep.
Quiet night.
Neighbors come, they hear the sound of hooves,
Prevents to fall asleep, disturbing their sleep.
Those who have nothing to wait for, hit the road
Those who are saved,
Those who are saved.
And to those who go to bed -
Restful sleep.
Quiet night.
To those who go to bed -
Restful sleep.
Quiet night.

you probably know it by now, but this band was active throughout 1980s and the band frontman had died in a car accident in 1990. they were like people who really sent out new ideas at the time of Soviet Union decay, and ironically enough, Viktor Tsoy, the person who brought so many new ideas and ways of thought in that old and dusty system of Soviet Union died just one year before the state collapsed without seeing really how much momentum his ideas have gotten. He became a musical legend and even new generations still listen to his songs not to mention those who were young during his lifetime.
