This game isn't nearly camp enough. They didn't even have a cool line like, "It's time for a game of Hyde and seek!" That would have gotten me on board.
***** Every time I watch the movie and Helsing kills the girl as a werewolf and howls to the moon in grief, I always say.. _"I should've been the one to fill your cursed soul with LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT"_
As much as Liam gushes over Castlevania, I'm surprised he hasn't seen this movie, it's the closest thing to a legit Castlevania movie it's ever gonna get
You gotta give it to this movie though, its story may have been dry and its character development kinda slow but it did have some good death animations and one of the best human to Werewolf transformations I've ever seen done.
My biggest issue though was how non-threatening the Vampires were. Even Dracula seemed more goofy than dangerous. Or mabey I was just spoiled by the Hellsing Manga, I dunno
+gaminggoddess85 I just knew about the thing where picking up your hat but interrupting the putting-on animation caused Mario to hold his hat in hand indefinitely. Then punching enemies turns into smacking them with the hat. Now I'm wondering if that still counts as having your hat on.
Seen that before. I had a friend several years back that couldn't have anything Naruto related because his mom thought it was a show about demon worship.
Even though it's a movie game and that's dumb, as a huge DMC(mostly 3) fan, I have to admit that it's got all of the elements. Like, this but more good would full-on be a DMC title.
No see, the thing about big monsters throwing people around is that 99% of the time it SHOULD kill the person who's being thrown. Television and video games have horribly downplayed how much damage getting chucked into a wall at 100 mph should do to a human being.
Hey, look, all I'm sayin is that monsters might be justified in thinking they can kill someone by slinging them across a room. Seriously, how often do you see a character in a tv show die from getting blown into a wall as opposed to, say, shot/stabbed/crushed/exploded/immolated?
+Rugal Berstein You do know more than just monster movies have people being thrown around, right? Many many action movies that are supposedly set in the "real world" treat physics unrealistically.
DabroodThompson I'm making a case for why a monster in a video game might choose to take a certain course of action how is that not fun and no i will not butter your balls
Dude, watch Dog Soldiers. Hands down the best werewolf movie ever produced, and as cool as they are, the werewolves aren't even the most badass thing in that movie.
I only remembered one thing about this game- You get grabbed by an enemy? Just mash and repeatedly shoot them in the face until they let you go. Dark Souls 3, I bet that bitch stray demon would be surprised if the Ashen Anus pulled out a Colt 1911 and just shot it in the face repeatedly.
I played the shit outta this game, unlocked all the goofy extras and everything. It was basically my first character action game. The dual Scimitars are so beastly.
Now "That Guy" might tell you that calling Frankenstein's Monster "Frankenstein" is wrong, but if we go one layer deeper, in the original novel, the monster is named "Adam" by Doctor Frankenstein, and he comes into the world as the doctor's son. This would make his name Adam Frankenstein, making the reference to him as "Frankenstein" technically correct.
You know I remember really loving this movie when I was younger. Now that I look back on it, it's REALLY shit. Like, so shitty it's kinda funny. Still love it though.
Same with me and I, Robot. It's on TV all the time, I'm not even sure I like it, and yet I'll always watch it even though I own it on DVD and have watched the DVD of it like, once.
I adore this movie. Its so stupid that it doubles back around into amazing. Its also the closest thing to a Castlevania movie we're ever going to get. Listening to Beckinsale loose and find her terrible accent is precious. Also that "Mystery thing" they add to "sexy" Victorian outfits, if i had to guess, sounds like a Waist Cincher. Back in the late 1800s-early 1900's they were meant to make women look slimmer (since that dainty, delicate, waify look was all the rage), but today are more of a fetish thing. Obviously modern films wanna use the sexy leather fetish kind, not the time-accurate frilly cloth ones XD
I feel like this game is in the same pool as the Lord of the Rings beat-em-ups in that it's way better than it should be and it gave me hours of enjoyment as a kid.
Old man Van Helsing went vampire hunting with Jonathan Harker and Quincy Morris. In Castlevania continuity Quincy Morris is the father of John Morris (teamed up with Eric Lecarde) and grandfather of Jonathan Morris from Portrait of Ruin!
Sort of. Iga decided to drop hints and homages everywhere to vampire lore as a whole rather than just Bram Stoker's book. For example Brauner in PoR is designed to look like the vampire from Nosferatu and Zephyr from Dawn of Sorrow is meant to be like DIO from JoJo.
kyle hague It kinda is. It's basically X2; I'm mean Hugh Jackman, main character has amnesia, and meets someone who knows him. X Men 2 and 007 combined.
I don't know why Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would be telling people how to pronounce Dr. Jekyll seeing as the book Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was written by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Matt Smith I'm guessing that it just gets loaded into the tube the pump is attached to like your average single barrel pump-action. I've seen that concept executed that way in video game form before in the Ballistic Weapons mod for Unreal Tournament 2004. You fire both barrels either at once or separately and then pump it and both barrels get a fresh shell at the same time. Doesn't make any sense, but it sure does look good and it makes for surprisingly effective weapon.
Man of all the games I remember looked SUPER good in my head, and I have pretty badass images in my head of this game, it doesn't actually match up at all
Thanks for reminding me of the movie, I remember really liking both the movie and the game. The GBA game too where you could actually play as a werewolf in the final battle. Also the transparent character thing is because you can unlock "cheats" by finding secrets hidden in levels, there's one near the start of level 2 as you can see.
/whispers ...Van Hellsing was actually pretty decent. Also, the story of how the actor that played Dracula met his wife (who played one of his daughters) in this movie is pretty sweet. :3
van hellsing is like the perfect movie to turn into a game, its got plenty of monsters and shit, bunch of weapons that could be adapted into different mechanics, and nobody has ever heard of it so people wouldnt think they would have ot get into a franchise to understand it, give this to platinum and you got a good game
I remember seeing this movie with its story that vampires and werewolves were like the most mortal enemies ever and being like "since when...?" and then realizing I care too much about vampire and werewolf lore.
you - Learn the Lore the movie - what Lore? There's that whole "Gabriel" subplot about who Van Helsing really is and I don't think they either failed to explain it at all or didn't even try.
I like it when the protagonist really has to push themselves to win, which is why I can't really get into One-Punch Man or Mob Psycho 100 like all my friends.
And to add on to the response it's suppose to be a story of saitama's struggle for being so powerful and how he admires/interacts with others he wish he was like and can relate to.
Unfladeldaby Doop Mob Psycho's whole thing is self worth and the psychology behind having psychic powers. Besides Mob, everyone in the show who has these powers lets it define them and thats all they are. Mob has psychic powers, but he also wants to get better grades and impress the girl he likes and get fit. Just because he has a talent doesn't mean he's special. Also its interesting that you say that Mob Psycho doesn't have protagonist push, he does have it. Its just in the inverse order. He freaks out in his psycho mode, creates Man of Steel level destruction around him, then has this huge emotional crisis. Its interesting, to me at least, to have a character push away from the irregular power that their given, rather than embrace it like almost every other anime ever. His character isn't "I have psychic powers and save the day, therefore people think I'm courageous and charismatic." Which is what is needed. OPM is a parody of this genre. Its even in the name, letting the shows title define his character type before you are even able to watch the show. Both of these shows less of a shounen-hype fighting series and more of a character study of how people react when given power beyond anyone's imagination, and I think thats where they both excel. Also both shows are beautifully animated and well drawn.
For what it's worth, Mob Psycho isn't really about the action. Whenever Mob does get into a fight, it drags on because he's trying not to compromise his morals. Imo, the psychological struggle is more interesting than any physical struggle for superiority.
FULL LP! FULL LP! FULL LP!!! On a serious note, all this DMC teasing that is happening on this channel is giving me blue balls you guys. When's an actual Full LP of a Devil May Cry game?
Van Helsing also had an animated tie-in, which I recall being alright. I believe the villain was Jekyll/Hyde, so the start of the game might be the end of the cartoon tie-in.
I remember this game! I played it back when I was a kid. It actually had some good moments. To be fair though, the movie's a huge guilty pleasure for me, so yeah. I remember the fucking werewolf level spooked me, with it bursting through walls and jumpscaring you while you hunt it through the town. One of the other cool things about this game is that you actually get to see what Dracula's big spooky demon form looks like. I think I remember he looked kinda like Zodd. Pretty awesome.
Remember Hyde in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comics- or the movie, for that matter? Movie producers seem to think he's based on the Hulk when it was actually the other way around.
Todd Koons Hyde's size is related to how evil Jekly is. So the idea is as Jekyle gets more evil Hyde grows in size till he's like the hulk. That's the idea at least.
Speaking of Castlevania, fun fact, that franchise is referenced in this game in a book in the town's library that explicitly mentions the Belmont family.
Loved this movie when I was a kid. I saw it as a double-feature with Hellboy, and I remember thinking that between the two, Hellboy was the weaker movie. Wrong call, huh?
I played this game a few months back for the first time and im like "this is Devil May Cry". But I loved the movie. I was obsessed with it when I was 10 lol
This game isn't nearly camp enough. They didn't even have a cool line like,
"It's time for a game of Hyde and seek!"

Wait, the game takes into account whether or not your hat is atop your head for stage clear bonuses? That's breddy cool.
Taking increased damage when hatless? What is this, Super Mario 64?
I didn't know that Mario 64 even _had_ a consequence for losing the hat, frankly.
Jeedy Jay Yeah, it doubled the damage you took.
+gaminggoddess85 I just knew about the thing where picking up your hat but interrupting the putting-on animation caused Mario to hold his hat in hand indefinitely. Then punching enemies turns into smacking them with the hat. Now I'm wondering if that still counts as having your hat on.

One of the reasons why I like this movie is Dracula. He looks pretty cool.
Remember when Dracula deliberately impaled himself on a dude's sword just to prove that he can't be killed? Shit was metal as fuck.
That was fucking good
And then afterwards he freakin' bit that dude's throat out and drank his blood? That was brutal

First one? That implies there were sequels. Luckily they weren't stupid enough to make a shitty sequel or two.
*****
dat Pipe though... respect it
Just a reminder that Resident evil HD and Transformers devastation are now free with ps plus on ps4
I love that you guys are playing castlevania loi and this game. So many memories. I know you hate curse of darkness but that would be awesome
I _really_ wish they found the Belmont book in the cathedral.
like , I really liked this movie and I still do
Oh hello I didn't see you there, welcome pull up a seat.
I love the little liam just crying in the title card
Oh man that Paper Mario TTYD music bringing back the memories.
They stopped at the exact moment I got stuck on, now I'll never know what happens beyond that point.
Matt...I will fight you on the side of the street. The first Devil May Cry is a goddamn masterpiece. >.>
That passageway after the book case falls over looks a LOT like the narrow passageways towards the beginning of DMC1.
I remember playing so much of this game years ago.
Oh, man. Bloodborne 2 looks great
I played this game a few months back for the first time and im like "this is Devil May Cry". But I loved the movie. I was obsessed with it when I was 10 lol
It makes me very happy hearing people remember Gargoyles.
Hey, it's that one movie that's on TV every week!
But Alucard is not the protagonist of Hellsing. That would be Seras.
Man, I hate Seras.
PoliceTitsGirl is great shut your mouth
Johnny Scissors Heaven forbid someone has a different opinion to you.
Dead Master Well yes there are differentnwrong opinions out there
Johnny Scissors She does have a nice rack, I'll give you that.
Why does Arthur Conan Doyle's opinion on pronunciation matter? Robert Louis Stevenson wrote Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
The movie is pretty dumb, but it has the BEST werewolf design of all time
As for the game, the boss fight against the werewolf is AWESOME.
This Van Dante May Sing design looks pretty euphoric. He really should have had a katana to complete the outfit.
Woolie, you have for ever earned my respect for the X-JAPAN drop of hide. I sincerely appreciate it.
I love that you keep referring to the Hellsings as honorary Belmonts, makes me want to play DKS3 with a notched whip again.
