A friend of my mother's worked on this film behind the camera, and she told us that during their scenes together, Jean-Claude would give Raul Julia acting tips, to which Raul Julia would politely respond "well thank you Jean-Claude, I'll certainly take that onboard and perhaps we can try it during the next take." All class.
And he probably meant it, General Bison was something of a sharp departure from what roles he played before, whereas Jean-Claude was already big in the genre. Think of it as if a very experienced officer changed a branch, they would, if they are any good, seriously consider advice from people who have fraction of their total experience, but have a lot more pertinent experience.

If it was just tips on how to perform in action scenes or how to perform in a way better suited to action movies, then yes, absolutely what you are saying is 100% correct.

Raul Julia's overacting is pure gold fallen from Heaven like lightniiiiiiing, but the fact that for the all-American Guile they cast a Belgian guy with a not unremarkable French intonation was also a good step towards involuntary (?) comedy.
It wasnt soo bad... I think at the time...they just wanted someone who atleast looks lie Guile and can fight.... I loved it to be honest. But now since there has been character development, they would surely make it awesome.

I dunno. I get the feeling that Van Damme was giving it his all, but he just didn't have a grasp on how to do it right. Also, any director who reuses the same shot of Guile doing the same movie TWICE probably isn't the best director.
Ikrani Yes, the director is very important. He has to guide his actors to get the best performance from them. If what he wants isn't clear for his crew, they won't give their best. A superior actor may still give an awesome performance even if the director is subpar, but Van Damme can hardly be described as such.
If Raul Julia were still alive he would have made a wonderful General Zod because in one of the comic books there was a General Zod that looked exactly like General bison

As I've gotten older and older, my appreciation of Raul Julia's M Bison has only increased. This man is chewing so much scenery it's unreal, but it absolutely works for his character.
Where's Part One? One scene missing from this is his speech to the prisoners he's about to execute. You know, the infamous, "You will be executed by a WILD BEAST!!!" speech.
RUclips blocked it from most countries and only recently did they finally remove it from the website all together (it was still active in some parts as of a few months back). Unfortunately, since I made these compilation videos nine years ago, my old files were deleted. With luck, somebody out there preserved it or would remake it...
