I truly don't understand how people choose one piece to encompass the greatness that is Vivaldi

@@leonhardeuler6811 Maybe it's because most modern pop artists are so one-dimensional that a single 3 minute song tells you everything about their work and style. Maybe it's because educational systems don't really expect us to know more than a handful of compositions by the most famous composers, and even so we are only taught of most of these works of art by name only (e.g. I personally had heard about Tartini's Devil Trill sonata in school, but I only listened to it recently). Perhaps it's because everything today needs a theme song -- Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor means vampires, of course. Mozart's Lacrimosa is the standard death scene music. Etc. With this mindset, there is no room for hundreds of compositions _from a single artist_. I myself have barely scratched the surface of Baroque music with the few works of Tartini, Vivaldi, Bach, and Albinoni that I have listened to -- I cannot imagine ever hearing all of them, then hearing all of the romantics, and all of the classicals etc. What I'm saying is it's easy to see how, without a special appreciation for this art, one might reduce works, composers, or even entire musical eras to just a few notes (Beethoven's 5th's first 6 notes, for example, are all of Beethoven that some people will ever know).
@ Well what you're saying there is entirely true, but that's not the entire issue. I know a few musicians - and even violinists - who don't consider Vivaldi to be at the same level as Bach, Mozart, Brahms (et...) in terms composition complexity (basically not a major composer). And while all the reasons you've given are valid for a more casual audience that's not plunged into the musical and classical domain, it doesn't explain why a lot of musician dismiss Vivaldi as "the 4 seasons guy". The typical that's thrown around to bash on vivaldi is "Vivaldi composed the same piece 700 times", which if you've actually taken the time to listen to his compositions, is ludicrous (this very piece being one of the many counter-example of the criticism). Maybe 1 third of Vivaldi's pieces are less relevant today and a bit redundant, but that still leaves us with around 400 incredible pieces, including Vocal, Mandolin, Oboe and Organ works that are regularly ignored. And that quote is so hypocritical and biased in the first place when most people only know the most famous composers by a handful of pieces already, so they might as well also have "700 times the same piece". Anyway this is kind of mind blowing to think that even with the milions of views a few of his pieces gather, he is still underrated. That's how great Vivaldi's genius.
I used to listen to this in the library when I was a kid. It really stuck and I remembered the opening theme from time-to-time but not what the key or the catalog number was. After more than a quarter century I have finally found this! :D
Consider yourself one of the lucky ones! Vivaldi wrote over 500 concerti. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_compositions_by_Antonio_Vivaldi So glad for you that you found this work! Congratulations!
For me, the best work of Vivaldi at a certain time, is the one that i listen to right at that time. So, all of his works, especially the ones written in minor keys, are his best.
Os seriosos formalistas do barroco muitas vezes o criticavam pelo estilo leve, ligeiro, brincalhão com as figuras; ei-lo aí no "fugato", com leveza, beleza, criatividade. Simplesmente o nestre veneziano.

If i had the chance to bring a deceased artist back to life, i would definitely choose him. I really wonder how he would react when he notices that he has been a worldwide known composer now for nearly a century after 200 years of silence. I would also ask him how he created these beautiful pieces as if they were produced in heaven. Of course, he would be requested to write the scores of his lost works.
Somehow, after getting past and beyond the four seasons, Vivaldi has become one of my favorite composers. This is incredible!!

Is there any better feeling?
Such longing and elation in his compositions. We feel you, Vivaldi.

I've been searching for this work for years! What a musical statement
