That blood wasn't because Fail stubbed his toe. It's because Toad ordered a hit on Fail, that failed, after seeing him relentlessly struck the golf balls with immense force, and striking harder after learning there's a small Toad in each ball.

Mar used this power to reach into the real world and stab Fail’s toe with a Joycon. Failboat’s gonna need some Mario foot products to fix that injury.
