We finish laying most of the floors in our ICF house and fill knots with epoxy sand and finish with poly then run the bottom board around main living area
Awesome videos and content. Dan, you are inspiring (both of you honestly) and the lady just blows my mind. She could work circles around most guys out there. There's nothing better than a partnership like you two have; each other thinking alike and for a common goal. That is what I see watching you work together. A lot of style and expertise, overcoming problems as they arise. I could go on and on. Let's just say you're my kinda people! Also I have to say it doesn't surprise me that Camarata found you guys somehow. The work ethic seems almost identical between all of you.
Boards with cracks and imperfections equal character! If it was just one mark in the entire job, yes, that would look odd, but multiple "blemishes" gives it a rustic look. Lots of patience and skills have gone in this project. Looks fantastic!
Wow it looks pretty awesome I like the concept of the wood decoration,. Yes I would use the boards you mention half threw the video. I all so like the way you designed and decorating your house deferment from every one else awesome.
Depends on how good the structure is underneath. If you have 1 1/4"" tongue and groove plywood on sixteen center joists then there would be no harm. Because of the problem of dirt collection I think I would squeegee a layer of West System epoxy over the entire floor to fill any inconsistencies. I would also give a try to a layer of polyester fiberglass with a lightweight fiberglass cloth. In my experience if it is not an oily wood (then epoxy is hard to beat) a single layer of cloth and a couple of coats of polyester resin will give a see through look and not hide the grain at all, plus it is a nice wear surface and easily redone if ever needed. Character in wood is great as long as it doesn't effect function.
Dan I just love the wide plank flooring in your home. I am like you, as far as putting down all natural boards for your floor. The More natural, the better, and to just fille them in is ok.. but that is just me. Great idea to take the sawdust over to Jesse's wife to use as bedding for their animals, and all free as well, no cost to them..I soLove mrs. W's songs and her songs, during your videos, Dan. Do you both live in this home yet, or are you both still in the she shed?? Those floors looks amazing with the first coat of the ploy really brings out the grains. did a great job on the fill ins, with the apoxy, really does look like knots on the floor and you really can't tell..Can't wait for the next video. thank you for sharing Dan, appreicate all your hard work.
Every time you say, "I'll end the video now," I think, "No. Don't stop. I want more." I thank you for all that you do to educate and entertain people like me. You and Mrs. W are the best!!! ❤❤❤❤
To answer your question, Dan....I probably would not use boards with imperfections, if I had better boards available. But, I have OCD and I'm anal, so don't take my word as gospel. It's YOUR house, and you do it as you like it. Have a great day!
Hi Dan, I do like the boards you are using since you can "repair" the splits, knots, and other imperfections. It seems to me that the whole point of your floor look is the rustic knotty pine look so definitely once repaired they will add to the interest and beauty of your floor. I really love your videos. Please keep up the good work.
Dan you are a Master Carpenter, You do beautiful work and your partner Mrs. W is amazing also, you two bond like carpenter glue and PL caulking together, nothing can split you two apart. Lol
Yes, that board has character that only nature can make, beautiful floors, I haven’t seen your videos in a while so I have been catching up, your floors and walls are what my dream house would be
@@danwheeler5130 thanks for your answer. i am an old DIY-typ from the Swiss mountains. there people told me to also make a gap to the floor. and then cover it with a skirting board. for sure your version looks much better!!! love your, incl. Mrs. W videos. stay save and sound!
OMG Dan has the same crappy DeWalt Circ saw as me 18:05. I feel we share the burden of owning such a mediocre power tool. Lol it's probably not "that bad" but the aluminum base plate doesn't care for getting bumped much. I really loath having to square it up. Now, back to the action.
Looking beautiful in there!
thanks
Out of all the house builds I've watched, this one and Andrews castle are by far the best. Well done to you and Mrs W.
thanks the funny thing is they are complete opposites lol and as we speak Mrs W and I are doing alot of work on Andrews castle vids to come
I think the flooring looks great! Both of you work very well together. It’s always a treat to see your progress on your home.
thanks

You do such great work!! Looks amazing!! All the best from Surrey BC Canada
thanks
Place looks like a lodge you guys. Awesome
thanks
YES!! use it that's a beautify Pease of wood!
i agree
Dan, you can thicken epoxy with fine wood dust and turn it into a consistency as thick as you’d like. We do it in boat building as an adhesive.
very cool
You better like the floors, you’re going to live there. St.Paul,Minnesota.
oh i do
Perfect work, goodlooking surface, I can smell the wood, your beautiful song made me cry, thank you!
thanks
love how you leave in all the imperfections, it looks more natural, you guys are doing an awesome job
thanks
Your floors are awesome and I would definitely use boards that highlight the life of the tree.
thanks i agree

Yes put it down for character do it your way. Looks good.Love the music and you guys work hard at what your buililding.
thanks
I love the imperfections in the wood floors. So much character.❤❤❤❤
i agree thanks
I like how you use this "imperfect" boards as well as the "nice" ones. Nature is not perfect as we humans are not perfect.
Great work !!!!
thanks
Yes. The imperfections make the wood unique and more beautiful.
i agree
I like the wood you have there is something beautiful about natural wood inperfections and everything. You cant beat it I'm jealous of the floors.
well put some in your house
Very nice flooring well done Sir and Lady. The most High bless in Yahushas name.
thanks
Absolutely beautiful! NICE job!!!!!
thanks
20:16 As far as that board in particular, I would've used it. It is consistent with the overall soul, spirit and beautiful character of that pad!!
i like it
You do very nice work your house is looking great and I like all the caricature in the the wood especially on the floor.
thanks

MRS. W GOOD SONG I LOVE YOURS MUSIC

Yes sir imperfections are the key to a wooden floor like yours , as it ages the true character of the floor will shine through
i have always love wide board pine

Yes
Really like the floors Dan. That’s exactly how I would want them as long as you and Mrs are are happy about it.
we love them

thankyou
Multi skilled, nothing like starting a job and having the brains to finish it out. Nice work on both of your behalf.
thanks
mrs W is a woman after my hart, I wear flip flops all year round too, now i see i am in good company.... LOL😄
she does
Some boards that are knotted all the way from edge to edge could be a problem as they completely dry…but I do like the character.
Thats my problem keeping them stable
they dried for a few weeks before we finished them so i think they will be alright
@@craighoff7793 thats why i use screws i can pull them flatter and hopefully they stay there
Love that knotty pine, nice satin finish and satiny voice to complete the floors.👍
lol thanks
Thank You Dan for showing your developments. I’m learning so much from both of you.
😢
We are doing some remodeling in our downstairs, wish I had you to do the woodworking.
im sure there are a lot of guys that can do it
Too much natural wood, you should paint the walls white or some other color that hides the natural wood.
some people do not I
What have you done for the termites, my wife and I were wondering?
we dont have them
looks really nice.. like the knots and all..
thanks
yes Dan its the artistic character of its origin,
it is
Love your work.Looks amazing.I have cedar planking on my walls in my family room. Love it..Ed from Michigan
Sure was an awful nice video Mr Wheeler
thanks
Yes i would have put the board with imperfections in too 👍🏼
I love that song your wife sings! What is the name of it?
The imperfections are part of a real look. It adds a lot of caricature. A plastic floor could be perfect. if you like plastic.
Dan you are a Master Carpenter, You do beautiful work and your partner Mrs. W is amazing also, you two bond like carpenter glue and PL caulking together, nothing can split you two apart. Lol
I couldn't hear you over the saw around 18:40.
Yes, that board has character that only nature can make, beautiful floors, I haven’t seen your videos in a while so I have been catching up, your floors and walls are what my dream house would be
dear Dan
may i ask you, why do you recommend a gab between the floorboard and the wall and why its not need a gab between the wallboard and the floor?
if the floor picks up moisture it will swell and buckle the wall will shrink some and i didn't want a gap
@@danwheeler5130 thanks for your answer. i am an old DIY-typ from the Swiss mountains. there people told me to also make a gap to the floor. and then cover it with a skirting board. for sure your version looks much better!!!

I Love the wide, knotted boards
20:23 Yes i like the spits & cracks ,gives it character and shows some age i think.
Dan you do good work.
thanks
Absolutely
thanks
Love it 👍🇬🇧
thanks
Mrs W, roller is a risky applicator. Bubbles are created...Behr recommends water wizard pad.
Mrs W is a mistress decorator……..don’t tell grandma how to suck eggs.
Did you actually watch the video?
she brushed it out after rolling
@@Bo88y22 lol
Yes, install it.
just a question: is there a reason you made the bottom boards so tight ( you might also say a bit too wide ) I would have made them just to fit
shrinkage
Beautiful work. It is going to be so nice. Thank you for sharing.
thanks for watching
