I see that some shots have good dark area information, but they also have very bright white areas, for example here 2:28, jacket reflects sun it becomes overexposed. How can you combat that? How can you show dark and bright areas at the same time?
MR SLAV the whites in these shots are accentuated because of a soft/glow filter I have on my camera. Hard light is tough to combat especially in hi dynamic light situations. Make sure to keep an eye on the right side of your histogram to keep it from clipping.
MR SLAV I don’t use a polarizer often. Without my softening filters I usually land a good dynamic shot by exposing a bit to the right and pulling down my highlights. But I’m not into perfectly balanced shots. I don’t mind if small parts of my images show flaws. It gives my images character.

Great look! Thanks for posting this! Got a question... I shoot with an A6500 and an A7s ii. In really low light situations, do you still use S-log? I find that I get more noise that way and have tried some other settings, but haven't found a setting I'm in love with. I'd love to hear your specific settings for shooting at night or with low light. Thanks again.
Mount Hideaway Productions hey, Hideaway! Yes, I shoot slog in low light situations. I find exposing to the right helpful. Then adding contrast and pull back on your exposure in post. I notice when You add contrast to a noisy shot it tends to help. These cameras can be pushed a bit more so play with your iso and see where your threshold is.
You have a great channel going here. Quick question, your footage seems quite intensely graded at times, I struggle with the codec on the a6300, how do you grade for say, teal and orange, and manage to avoid ‘breaking’ the codec?

Thanks, bud. I haven't been following Sony much every since I bought the URSA Mini 4.6k. Slog2 worked for me but if they have proved cine 4 to out preform - then I'd try it. I only noticed rolling shutter when I would use telephoto lenses. My advice to you in this situation is to stabilize your camera when using a telephoto lens. Tripod, gimbal, Steadicam. Hope this helps.

Looks fantastic but not sure you want to be using the diffuse filter on everything. It looks great on a youtube videos where everyone is walking along in slo-mo and not really doing much other than looking good. Like a travel video. But for a narrative film if everything was diffused all the time, it wouldn't look right to me. This video does look amazing though.

Hey, Koishik. Couple of reasons. 1. More affordable 2. Better resolution 3. Affordable memory cards. Its a great little camera. Only BIG issue is the rolling shutter when using telephoto lenses. You can really see it.
The filter I have is a 4x4 filter made for a matte box. I haven't looked into a screw on version. But if you want a similar look I would look into Pro Black Mist or Satin 2 filters made by Tiffen.

The natural way is to shoot at native iso or below. The 2nd way is to use a denoiser. Lots of great 3rd party software for premiere or Davinci Resolve has a good one built in.
Ben Cruz good point. Canon seems to have a softer sensor. Sony cameras have a real digital feel to them. Super sharp. The cokin net filter really softens things up. In one of my next vids I’ll cover a 1/8th black pro mist filter that gives a similar vibe of softness.

With a shutter of 1/48th your seeing motion blur. It’s intended to look like way. To most it feels “life like”. If you want less motion blur crank up your shutter. Experiment to see what you like.
Sorry to burst your bubble bro but your "film look" test is not quite there yet. It's a great attempt but there's no way it looks like a real Hollywood film look. Don't get me wrong, the masked man, the protagonist, the acting, and the camera movements does look like a Hollywood film, you did an amazing job. But what I'm talking about here is that illusive cinematic look that unquestionably tells your mind that you're watching a Hollywood movie. My advice is to check out a few tutorials from "Aram K" channel, he's a professional Hollywood motion picture film editor and color grade expert. Hollywood hires him to create the real film look. What I love about his tutorials is that he doesn't hold anything back and I often feel like a fly in the wall, he even shows you how to make DSLR video from cheap cameras look like Hollywood film. Best part is that he makes his tutorials short and to the point. Anyhoo, you did an amazing job on your test video.

1/48 and 1/98 can only be used on cameras like Blackmagic and more expensive models as far as I know. 1/50 and 1/100 are close enough.

Izzarial Rivera the more megabits the better. At 100 you get more color info. I always shoot at the highest megabits.

Great tutorial! However, the overall video looks 1080 eventho it was shot on 4k. Somehow this looks like a canon footage due to the softness.

180º rule is known as the most common setting for cinema. I used it as a way to call out the proper "cinematic" shutter speed.

RUclips doesn't remove the back bars. What your seeing is a video that was exported with the displayed ratio.
