What a refreshing perspective! I have a bunch of older Nikon lenses because I've been using Nikon gear so long; I like using them on my a7s. If you ever have need of a longer lens check out the 105/2.5 AIS. It's a fantastic lens. It sells for a bit more than those, but it's a lot less than most modern lenses, and it's a lot smaller than any similar modern lens.
I have quite a few of those Pentax lenses now, they are all pretty good and you can pick them up at a very reasonable price. Build quality and especially the smooth focus ring is great on all of them.
Another excellent vid, as a new comer to photography I bought a cheap vintage lens to teach myself how to use apeture and manual focus properly as opposd to my camera doing all the work. I learnt a lot and got inresting results
Thanks for the video. The 50mm f1.7 is a gorgeous lens and one of my favorites. The 28mm f2.8 is also very nice but often suffers from oily/sticky aperture blades. There are repair guides somewhere online and after a proper CLA mine (25,-€) works as good as new :)
Agree with everything you said! I'm living it. The Jupiter37A 135 is also a lens that is cheap...but can literally create the most insanely good images.
These lenses aren't that cheap anymore! Really looking forward to trying mine out! I like your postproductiom as well, really gives it that warm 80s or even 70s vibe.
Great video. I have a ton of vintage lenses all used from pawn shops and they are awesome. I have canon, nikon, pentax, minolta, M42, etc and adapters are cheap. Make sure to check for fungus, I missed that tip early on.
I have one of these in 50mm f2. I think it was my first prime portrait lens I ever bought and one of my favorite in my collection. I use it on my EF canons with adapter. Whoever owned it before me must have never used it because it looks and operates like it’s a brand new lens. I lucked out. Got it for about $50 4 or 5 years ago. No idea how old they are. One of the first things I noticed is how great it would be to use as a cine lens.
Parts I&II were 🔥 - I literally got lost in your B roll 🤣🤟 I am always grateful for your honesty, Joris - and once again, thank you for inspiring me to accept the imperfections that can come with a budget lens 🙏🏻 Great video - cheers, Joris 🙏🏻 Oh, and now I too struggle saying, "reputable website"... after trying it countless times 🙄🤦🏻♂🤣
It’s fascinating that the camera companies have worked incredibly hard to create cameras that are amazingly good at reproducing reality, only to have the image “degraded” or rather “altered” by “lower quality” lenses that alter the image as if the sensors were not as good as they are. Neither good nor bad, simply fascinating.
Hey you're doing great job man. I have that lens accidentally cause a friend of mine give me as a gift a Pentax MEsuper combo with that lens. So one thing has to be next days, to buy the adapter for my Sony camera. Thanks for that ''present'' from you Joris!!! Keep it up .
Your little bit about adapters is very interesting, and I'll tell you why. (I just subbed to make it all legit.) I just this week spent a large part of two afternoons looking for an adapter for a Pentax mount lens to a Canon FD body. Guess what? NOBODY MAKES ONE. There are TONS of FD lens adapters top a Pentax body, but not the other way around. If anyone can prove me wrong, I'd be delighted. VERY delighted!!
Ha, you have no idea how long it took to get it right 😵😅 I uploaded at least 5 versions because RUclips compression always messed it up. 😮💨 You know what, I'll make a video about it. Will drop next week!
I much prefer the older Pentax Super Takumar M42 lenses. Solid metal construction. And a few models have very cool bokeh and interesting optical artifacts.
You can go into your settings and change the focus mode to MF (manual focus), then turn on focus magnifier and focus peaking. These have helped me a ton!
Hello Joris, are manual focus lenses good for videos? Wanted to buy an affordable manual lens before investing into autofocus brands. Is this a good idea?
Hi, could this lens fit on nikon d 3400? I feel so bad cause all photos that I want to make (something like your intro) all people tell me that is impossible... can you recommend me some lens if this one in your video could not fit, something that can give me some retro photos but for dslr like mine and also that are no so expensive... sorry for my bad english!
I hope you enjoyed our time in our sunny country. I was actually on Acropolis with my son on the last Sunday of May. It would be great if I had bumped into you. You were lucky though. Not so many people on Acropolis when you visited. I tried taking a few shots up there and it was so crowded. People kept pushing me. I managed to get a few shots though ruclips.net/video/3EPxZQuapPM/видео.html 😁
Man, Greek food, how good is that! 🤯 We tried so many different things and every single one was delicious 😅 Even the "boring sounding" chickpea stew on Sifnos was delicious 👏🏻🔥
@@JorisHermans Yes. Tell me about it. Do you know how hard it is to lose weight here? 😜 And I guess you have tried the food in the places tourists eat. Imagine how home-cooked food tastes!
Exactly, its the overall result that counts. I hate this pedantic obsession with sharpness and perfection for every use case. There are different feels and aesthetics you can get from different lenses.
I really love your videos but this one threw me off because although informative you failed to genuinely show the LENS quality and what you get SOOC and you only really showed the footage you graded AND added film emulation on top which doesn’t really show me anything about these lenses unfortunately.

Hey Joris, have you had the chance to play with the Helios 44 ??
This 50mm f1.7 is one of my favourite lenses ever. I can shoot it on film, I can shoot digital stills, I can use it for video. It's so versatile
The 50mm f1.7 is a good lens, been using it since the 80's. It was my Dad's lens and I now use it on my Sony cameras, love it.
BRO THAT INTRO WAS SO CLEAN 😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤
love your videos, keep ‘em up always! they’re always so informative .
Love the tiny Pentax M range. I have the 28/2.0, 35/2.0, 50/1.7, 50/1.4, 85/2.0 and 135/3.5
What do you think about the 85/2.0? I plan to buy one. I'm also interested in the 35/2.0
What a refreshing perspective!

Awesome! Great T-shirt and Band. And agree with everything you said.
Man those intro ❤. I think we need more videos or short regarding photography please 😅.

Noooo let the old Pentax lenses for us Pentax people!
The footage collection in this video is marvellous

I also have both and like the 50mm more because I use it in my mft camera so it's obviously a 100mm in full frame and it's a awesome portrait lens 😍😍
Love me some vintage lenses! Those old Pentax's are such great value at the moment.

Your shots look amazing. I love my Olympus 50mm f1.4. Vintage lens for video is magical. I will never sell them.
I subscribe to the channel just for your t-shirt. Contents are good to!
Hello from Greece!! Nice video my friend!
My man, you guys have some DELICIOUS food! We tried so many different things and literally everything tasted amazing 😅
Love your shirt! ❤

A vintage 28mm will be my next lens. Will have to wait until next year.
Is there a crop when using these leises on Sony FF?
What website did you buy it from? where they test it.
What LUTS do you use I would love to use them they look amazing oh my god 😳
have you done a comparison between the smc pentax vs smc takumars?
Loved the video man, I have a old sony mini dcr pc100 that I want to use with these two lens. Do you know of any adapter for my sony camera?

You're right, there is no K to FD adapter. I think theoretically it's possible but there's probably not enough demand for it.
Is the color grading used in this video sold as lut? I want to buy it because it's so pretty!
It's not just a LUT, it's a combination of a LUT and a few Resolve effects. Will probably make a video about it! 😬

Did you had a reference for 35mm vintage lense with almost the same characteristics with canon 50mm FD S.S.C ? Or Helios 44m-6 58mm F2 ?
Amazing video again. I just have to ask, what are your grain settings? It looks so clean 👌

I use A7s "first gen", with vintage lenses. But camera shake is awful. Do you have image stabilization in camera house? Or do you post edit later?

Great video. Besides getting a lens adaptor did you have to change any setting with using a manual lens especially when it is not a Sony brand?

Top zoals altijd! Beide lenzen zien er op hun eigen manier tof uit! Blijf dit zeker doen!

Hi Joris,
Your channel name should be Joris - THE SMAET PHOTOGRAPHER “ 😀
What do I need to mount it on my Canon 12i
Not sure if you mean the T2i, but if so you need a K to EF mount converter.
sorry for being a noob but does it fit a sony mirrorless as well? (nex-6 alpha is what i have)
Yep, just get a K-mount to E-mount adapter.
thanks mate! will buy the lens and the adapter asap :)
Here's a thought experiment. High resolution with a "grainy" lens like this, or lower the resolution (like 720p) with a clear/perfect lens?
High res 💯🔥
@@JorisHermansdoes this lens adapted on a DSLR give that grainy film look?

how to use nd filter on vintage lens?
Same as on any modern lens.

that 50mm is 1.6x more with a crop sensor.. so, a 75mm,,

Can you recommend websites or links to buy vintage lenses ?
I guess it'll depend on where you're from (shipping) but I quite like kamerastore.com
Where are you from
Belgium 🇧🇪🍻
Can you name me the song please. From INDIA
You missed the real prize
Do you worry that some of the vintage lenses are radioacitve ☢?
50? I got them in Japan for like 15 bucks each.
Me on a Nikon DSLR so I can’t use any other lenses to their full capability🥲
If this lens could sing,,,
Well, I'm not uptight
Not unattractive
Turn me on tonight
'Cause I'm radioactive
Radioactive
You might be thinking of the Super-Takumar lenses, SMC Pentax lenses are not radioactive.
Can you juat say pentax in the title
If everybody wants the film look, why don't they just buy a film camera and shoot with that?
Now think about that in practical terms and there you find your answer!
Don't use 4k for a film look. USE ONLY 1080p
Why
